Aman Upadhayay and Savita Maru present their work on leaves.
The form of a dry leaf is considered as the final form attained, during the life of a leaf. This is found to be in equilibrium, stable and stiff. This research focuses on the study of the geometrical morphology and structural characteristics of shells acquired by the observation of the same. To investigate the above statement, two dry leaves are picked. Critically, the geometric points are marked on the leaf surface thereafter a computational parametric model is generated. Fractals based on the design of veins, are generated by Lindenmayer system algorithm. Further, to briefly explore the structural characteristics of the shell structure obtained through the experiment, finite element analysis is performed to compare the structural strength of the model in conjunction to the parametrically iterated fractal production rule. This research also explores further and extends the application of the same in design of shell structure.
