      @@Mo-mc3mw As somebody who's going to be taking computer science 20-1 I would strongly recommend. I started here, coding all the time with friends and seeing how other people made their projects, and I'm still currently making games from time to time because of how easy it is to get people to play them. I had a lot of fond memories with it and trust me your actually kind of lucky to be starting when scratch is this powerful.

    I watched the first 4 or 5 tutorials with my 6 year old grandson, and he was glued to the screen! I don't yet know where he will get it, but I'm sure he will have a laptop or a desktop or a Raspberry Pi within a few days to rip through those exampes.
    This is the result of my asking him what he would like to learn in half a day that we could work together. His answer was Scratch.

    such nostalgia. when i was in 4th grade, in technology class, they made us program things in scratch. i recently remembered scratch and started dicking around with it, but couldn't program like i used to. thanks.

    I just heard about Scratch (yes, I live in a cave). I like Kevin's tutorial because (1) it kept my interest until the end, (2) it provided enough information for a newbie to start coding. Constructive criticism: Turn the radio/TV off, please.

    Lol, I'm watching this tutorial with my 7 year old daughter and i tell her it's really cool, you can make Scratch do anything, and then she asks me innocently, "Can you make him say fuck?" lol.

    I was trying to learn .gml on GameMaker Studio but nothing I learned would stick in my head. Someone recommended I try starting with Scratch because it breaks it down more what each thing does. So thanks for making this tutorial!

      7th graders usualy know the bsics of scratch from different schools. Scratch is like "coding" but for kids(some kids are smart for instance i knew c++ in 7th grade)

      Hi Nicole,
      You can make a sprite dance by moving it to different locations or you can use animations which I explain in the link below (not all of the sprites can do it, though).

    How can I link two sprites, like when I put an event for sprite 1>when this sprite clicked. I want to include another sprite. And I want sprite 2 moves only when sprite 1 touched?!

    But also, if you want the sprite to start at a certain place, put when __ clicked block
    It can start when the flag is clicked, a button, or the sprite is clicked.
