@@Mo-mc3mw As somebody who's going to be taking computer science 20-1 I would strongly recommend. I started here, coding all the time with friends and seeing how other people made their projects, and I'm still currently making games from time to time because of how easy it is to get people to play them. I had a lot of fond memories with it and trust me your actually kind of lucky to be starting when scratch is this powerful.
I watched the first 4 or 5 tutorials with my 6 year old grandson, and he was glued to the screen! I don't yet know where he will get it, but I'm sure he will have a laptop or a desktop or a Raspberry Pi within a few days to rip through those exampes. This is the result of my asking him what he would like to learn in half a day that we could work together. His answer was Scratch. Thank you for a great, practical intro to Scratch!
I went from thinking "this is super-complicated" to "Oh, I bet I can make my house more complicated..." in less than 15 minutes! Well done and thank you.
such nostalgia. when i was in 4th grade, in technology class, they made us program things in scratch. i recently remembered scratch and started dicking around with it, but couldn't program like i used to. thanks.
I just heard about Scratch (yes, I live in a cave). I like Kevin's tutorial because (1) it kept my interest until the end, (2) it provided enough information for a newbie to start coding. Constructive criticism: Turn the radio/TV off, please.
Hello! I am 9 years old i liked your video so much it was easy to learn and i did the practical when your video was playing and it was amazing to do and learn give us more videos to learn and do i enjoyed it a lot.
this was actually what I wanted when I searched up scratch I thought it was just going to put up a unity and you didn't have anything to help you at the beginning and I was just like YES
Lol, I'm watching this tutorial with my 7 year old daughter and i tell her it's really cool, you can make Scratch do anything, and then she asks me innocently, "Can you make him say fuck?" lol.
I was trying to learn .gml on GameMaker Studio but nothing I learned would stick in my head. Someone recommended I try starting with Scratch because it breaks it down more what each thing does. So thanks for making this tutorial!
Hi, I just download scratch today for my 8 yo son. his first day learning programming with scratch. He can follow your instruction himself in less than an hour. i think its really good for kid to learn. Thank you.
Hi @Kevin Briggs: I am Sarfraz (I teach Introduction to Programming). I am in the process of writing lectures notes and may be in future a small book on Basics of Programming in C++. I always start with Scratch as I feel Scratch is an amazing beginning to learn divide and conquer and build the foundation of computer programming. I found your tutorials very beautiful. I would like to take help and include these 8 tutorials into my lecture notes. I need your permission in this regard?
I don't understand Scratch. Is this supposed to represent programming for begginers? If that's the case, is it comparable to other languages like python or java, or is it only for begginers
Thank you! I needed some help understanding scratch so I can teach my 7th graders how to use it this week. No doubt they will surpass my limited skills shortly. lol!
7th graders usualy know the bsics of scratch from different schools. Scratch is like "coding" but for kids(some kids are smart for instance i knew c++ in 7th grade)
I´ve just bought an EV5 for my doughter (8 years old) and she was frustrated because she mounted the robot for CUBE Solving and when she turned it on, it has not the cube solving scratch program. Where can I find it please? Where can I download it? Thank tou so much in advanced.
Hi Nicole, You can make a sprite dance by moving it to different locations or you can use animations which I explain in the link below (not all of the sprites can do it, though). ua-cam.com/video/9ehLebO6S2Q/v-deo.html#t=1127
Hey-up, Kevin!! My son just started on a Scratch course and this certainly makes it possible for me to join him (somewhat - I'm still slow 😉) in coding together at home. Looking forward to this experience 👍
How can I link two sprites, like when I put an event for sprite 1>when this sprite clicked. I want to include another sprite. And I want sprite 2 moves only when sprite 1 touched?!
But also, if you want the sprite to start at a certain place, put when __ clicked block It can start when the flag is clicked, a button, or the sprite is clicked.
First step to becoming a software developer, started here...
Thank you.
I'm a beginner, would you recommend starting on scratch?
Hi. I have one more video which my daughter made ua-cam.com/video/1G7ZpBQVl_I/v-deo.html You will see it is funny and useful in the same time.

Hello Im Mark Only for beginners who has no knowledge of coding. Perfect for kids
Not at all, don't compare scratch to python or java. Scratch is a drag and drop game developing software.
Hello Im Mark it’s mainly for little kids who want to make games
I think it's also for educational - used in schools to introduce kids to programming.
"begginers"
