Wow! Still remember this race. At the time I had no idea I was witnessing something that would not be seen again for almost 2 decades. With Lagat pushing El Guerrouj all the way, I'm surprised El Guerrouj did not break his 3'26" record.

Seems that all athletes did their personal best in this race except el guerrouj. Great great job of 1st pace maker. If the second pace maker pushed little harder before last 400m we would have world record under 3:26😢

Aquí en esta 2:46:10 en ROMA no sé , pero yo vi una carrera en la que pasaron ( y no eran ninguno de estos dos corredores creo) el 1.200 en 2:45 no se cuánto más y luego ni siquiera bajaron de 3:27

I had to check this, and indded, you are correct! This run averages to 54.97 per lap for El Guerrouj. Lagat averages to 55.02!
