I remember playing this game a ridiculous amount as a kid. I got great at busting ghosts and making money! That dang marshmallow man though. It was so heartbreaking to put in all that work just to get crushed by him. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to run underneath him or when he was on the side. And putting in almost an hours worth of work just to test a theory was harsh. The first time I got a guy past him I was so thrilled! But my next two got crushed of course. When I finally did get past him I was so excited to see the next part of the game and take on Zuul. Then the ending happened so fast I thought is was a bug or something. Don't think I ever played after that.
I loved playing this at the time. The sampled speech is really clear for an 8 bit. It helped a lot when playing the game when you could afford to buy the fastest car (though you felt you had to choose the stationwagon to match the movie).
Yes, this was the right speed on PAL Atari 8bits (it was as slow as this at 1.0 speed in NTSC). To prevent it being too slow on PAL, they just took a smaller timer counter divider which actually made it faster on PAL. Little hint: Don't enter a name, say YES if you have an account, and enter 25252525 as the account number to start with (IIRC) $25000. Works on Atari and C64.
This was one of the games that came with my late model C64 along with Leaderboard Golf that I paid over $600 for A VERY LONG TIME AGO now I play games like Empyrion Galactic Survival and VR games on my PC
Compared to the capabilities of the C64, the soundtrack for this game was really out of this World, when we experienced this the first time in the mid 80's
just now I was playing Ghostbuster Remastered PC game 2019. Mine....mine how times have changed in terms of computer graphics and sound. I fondly remember playing the C-64 version when I was an 80's kid. I can only imagine peoples reaction if I took the 2019 pc version back then.
Friends had this on Sega they couldn’t work out how to play it and win until I had a go and bought the ghost bait they keep telling me it’s a waste of money and did nothing. When I used it blew their minds.
Hello;from playing this do you remember the key to stop the marshmallow man from destroying the buildings? I haven't played this in years. Also a key for other systems that this was played on
Ah, I had this game. It's not a bad game, just goes on for a loooooong time. Marshmallow Man always crushed my hopes and dreams of seeing the ending many a time when I was much younger. Also, is there even a point to suck up ghosts with the vacuum? I never really noticed a money difference.
Sucking up the ghost resets its position on the map, which helps prevent it reaching the Zuul building and increasing the PKE level - since you need to end the game with more money than you started with delaying the PKE level is a good idea 🙂
@@Hawthorne-Studios Going back to GBHQ emptied all of your full traps. The advantage of the containment unit was so you could make fewer trips when all of your traps are full. I never bought it though so I don’t know how full the containment unit could get before having to return to base.
Great video and game. Thx. Do you have an account Y. Account number 458. But borrowing more money was not a good thing it was harder to pay back. But the fastest car was cool. No I never beat the game. :)
To you, maybe. Al is right, you have no idea of how well the gameplay stands up even today unless you're playing it yourself. Just watching it doesn't make it justice. This is one of those games that may seem repetitive from the outside but once you're in it really takes a hold on you. Every time to complete a run and get a new credit limit you really feel the NEED to have another go at it immediately. I'm sorry for Ernie Hudson's kids but I have to say, not sure about now but back then they had a crappy taste in video games for sure.
Buccaneer especially the NES version. but only because when you're in the Zuul building, you have to keep pressing A while holding left and right on the D pad just to make the Ghost Busters move. plus you can't fire at the ghosts in the building. even with a turbo controller, you still have to be smart.
@@bronysimpson3250 I know! It was so hard that Angry Video Game Nerd had to use a game genie glitch! At least Sega gave you the ability to blast but it only shoots up so your practically done for!

I feel your pain, was a similar story for me.
Had i known about the money.. i would of played it more
the vacuum was so aggressive in this game. it scared me along with the marshmallow man.
I had this. During the opening where it shows the lyrics on the screen, you could press space bar and it would say Ghostbusters when it came up

Play on 1.25 speed to make the song sound more authentic.

I love PAL vs. NTSC bashing. LOVE it. Especially now that I have both PAL and NTSC C64, so I can take turns bashing on both of them!
I remember singing along with bouncing ball as a kid. I can't be the only one. 😝 Thanks for the memories.

OMG Leaderboard Golf!! Seemed so was advanced. Wizard of Wor and Jupiter Lander saw a lot of play in our house because we had them on cartridge.
Commodore 64: Ghostbusters! Ha ha ha ha h ha!
Nintendo: GhERSSTBUstErS!
wooow havent herd this theme tune in like 25 years...... brings back soo many memories
I was so disappointed as a kid that this game never had the 'containment unit' included.
This was my favorite game as a kid
Compared to the capabilities of the C64, the soundtrack for this game was really out of this World, when we experienced this the first time in the mid 80's
nop, C64 had a very good audio for an 8-bit machine, and could do better...
Ocean left the chat

I couldn't get one of those things on one of those cars and it drove me insane as a kid...great game do 🤓
Way better than NES version, and no Engrish at ending message :)
Sega Master System version is the best.
Or worse: りり
Well done Al 😛
Nostalgie ❤

Why anyone prefers that tinny SID sound over Atari's POKEY will always confound me.
Wow i forgot the ending was so fast 🤣
I think I was meant for 60fps, seeing the slower theme song.
Very likely - the game was devised in the USA, so I wouldn't be surprised that it was designed for NTSC machines.
Perfect
Gotta love the singalong on the title screen.
41.16 what happens to the PKE meter? It gains 100 all of a sudden... is the game trolling you?!
Every ghost that makes it to Spook Central jumps the PK energy readout

Days before game engines existed. All coded in assembler. Proper coding

It really isn't - perhaps it's partly the nostalgia, but it really is a cool game 🙂
