    Finally a video that’s not about the Si or the Type R. Well done.

    • @jgreegs4391
      @jgreegs4391 7 років тому +1

      hondatrix I think Honda did some crazy design with this turbo setup and it's actually part of the intake manifold or some shit. I don't know if there's a way to go bigger due to this or else they probably would've. or there just isn't any aftermarket support yet

    • @hondatrix
      @hondatrix 7 років тому +1

      +Jeff Grigos it's actually part of the exhaust " manifold " / downpipe and has a plastic inlet tube running to it. This is very common for loads of manufacturers., and simple machining of the compressor or turbine housings can be done to allow volume increase, or simple changes to the number of blades per impeller could also be done, as was done years ago in F1 for different altitudes and tracks.

    • @SI0AX
      @SI0AX 7 років тому +2

      But is in the integrated exhaust manifold style found in the 9th gen Civic SI, the one that is practically cast into the engine block?

    • @hondatrix
      @hondatrix 7 років тому +4

      Cast as part of the cylinder head, yes. Done to cut costs, reduce parts count, decrease cat warm up time and also to make the engine slightly more compact.

    I hope I understood this right and the first step was just remapping without any hardware adjustment and it boosted the engine by 20 horsepower? It seems like more than enough in most daily scenarios provided limited engine changes. Of course, you can do more but they point out that the stock clutch might not take more torque. I would like to know if this mapping exercise would be safe for a CVT transmission. I remember Hodata's clip on the damage they made to the CVT trasmission when they passed too much torque through it.

    • @Eyem1337
      @Eyem1337 6 років тому

      A basic tune from Hondata is +6 PSI, ktuner equivilant is eco / 21PSI IF I’m not mistaken..
      Personally on my 2017 Hatchback (manual) I just got myself the KTuner V2. Not only does the car have so much more hp for the price of the ktuner, it made it like a whole new car. So much more responsive on the throttle, no more idiotic rev hang, more torque, basically the same as hondata but much more customizeable as well as easier to flash and everything since I don’t need a laptop to do it.
      The only problem with either tune? Once you do an intake and front+downpipe, nevermind the exhaust, the clutch will not be able to handle it and will slip, which is why you will see videos of other people changing out the stock clutch to an FX300/FX350
      I’m fine with just the tune and no other mods though.
      Why did I wait a full year and a half before tuning? Simple answer was I wanted to see if anyone was ending up with major mechanical issues that warranty will obviously not cover. With all of these base tunes no one has really had any major problems that i can think off, just don’t mess with stuff when you don’t know what you are doing. It is a very very good modification and I would be more than happy with keeping this as my only mod (the second I felt the power difference I wanted to mod everything, but am thinking I may not now and will just work on paying the car off faster)

    I went from a 2005 10,000lb 6.0L power stroke 4x4, to a 2017 2door 1.5 L and man this car is slow, very late on the take off, will not throw you back in the seat, has no sound from the exhaust, but driving at 65 mph you will most definitely get 45mpg.

    So Honda is advertising the 2017 Civic as having 174hp, how come the baseline is 184 to the wheels?

    • @titogonzalez3119
      @titogonzalez3119 6 років тому

      Edwin Ortiz Good question.. They are actually more capable than advertised. The L15B7 Engine is a wolf in sheeps clothing for being a 1.5L is super strong , real HP is around 180+ .. My Gen X Si with with 6 psi Tune and Stage 1 PRL intake can hit mid 13’s 1/4 mile which tells me it’s around 230+ WHP 260 Wheel Torque and its a similar engine to the one on the EXT. So again underrated by factory in my opinion, Honda focuses more on showing the MPG numbers..

      It does not require a tune. You can install one and just go, but like in this test, a tune lets you have more power along with the cold air intake from mishimoto. So tune it to get the extra hp.

      if you mess with the ECU at all, prepare for having all warranty claims denied. change mechanical parts instead and they'll have a much harder time denying you. Otherwise, most dealerships can tell if the ECU has been flashed at some point...So the whole "flash back" isn't perfect.

      It has a the tiniest turbo. TD03 is as small as I know, I don't think there's is smaller unless it's like a motorcycle turbo or something.
      Small turbo = more torque, less HP.
      Big turbo = less torque, more HP.
      It seems like they are pushing too much PSI, but since the engine is small it's not really stressing the turbo as much as a bigger engine would. A bigger engine would max out the turbo at a much lower PSI.

      +HomesliceDrummer You know Honda makes the NSX right?
      You know, the stupid fast one?
      Anyways, real car people build their own cars, you know what are the two most common cars people start upgrading and making their own? Mazda Miata and the Honda Civic, because they have so much room to expand, some of these Tuned hondas will kick your Z06's ass around a track without much issue, Boost is all that matters for power, bigger turbo, more boost, some of these four bangers are pushing 500+ horse power...........and when your car can be stripped to weigh less then a ton, that 500+ horsepower is like riding a rocket.
      Also LOL, Old Supercharged mustangs where utter garbage, only the most recent [2016 and newer] one finally gained a independent rear axle, you know, something even muscle cars have had for 15-20 years.
      Also how's that 302 going? bet you love having to run block braces because ford's 5.0 from the 1970s is not rated without reinforcement past 500 HP.
      Also how did you slap a blower onto a 14 Vette? unless you changed your entire top end, your ECU would be screaming at you and refuse to run properly, the LS6 in said car is controlled entirely by computer, you can't run a manual system to make your blower's vanes open and close to throttle control, you sound like you are talking out of your ass.
      Infact, blower systems don't work very well with any modern car regardless of make without serious changes.
      Also why are you even thinking that's going to make you go any faster? top end supercharged cars don't need blowers anymore, sucking air in though a dedicated manifold is far more efficient now, hence the gaping mouth of the Z06.

      +xAgent0 Of course not, the unlimited class stuff like the nuts builds on Civics can be.....and that Type R can give the Z06 a run for the money around a track in everything but top speed.
      I'm just saying this dumbass seems that throwing money at the wall means he's automatically a better car guy, that pisses me off......just imagine what a 22 thousand dollar honda would be with 50 grand worth in mods, and it'd still be cheaper then the Corvette.

They had the opportunity to do it with the Si, but neglected that. It really is a shame. Pretty much now a days, you can pick up any turbo cars and get tremandous amount of power gain for just a simple bolts on and reflash. #turbo

    So Honda must be under reporting the horsepower and torque numbers because here in North America the Civic has 174 crank horsepower claimed by Honda but obviously the baseline test here is showing 187 wheel horsepower and that if you add calculate 15% loss you should be in about 220 crank horsepower stock not 174, very interesting. About two weeks ago I bought it 2017 Volkswagen golf GTI and the numbers are 210 hp 258 pound feet of torque at 2000 RPM and it feels much more powerful than that I'm told that Volkswagen also under reports the torque and horsepower numbers and that it's actually around 260 hp and 280 pound feet and it does feel like it.

    Stop messing around with pump gas. The power isn't maxed until you start adding ethanol. E40-E50 is the sweet spot for DI engines. I would almost guarantee you could see 240-250whp with a mix. You can then skip the intercooler upgrade.

  • @numinous4789
    @numinous4789 7 років тому

    27.5psi on a TD03?!? That thing must've been a hair dryer, LOL! I'm sure it was blowing super hot air and waaaaaaaaay out of it's efficiency range. Heck, I don't run my Garrett GT2871 above 25, and that's when I'm spraying methanol and have E25 in the tank. On 93, I stick to 22psi. That's on a ~43 lbs/min turbo. (390/385 @ the wheels on high boost - Speed 3).

  • @MegaHollywood1971
    @MegaHollywood1971 6 років тому

    It is always enjoyable when various tuners try their ways. To increase Boost +7psi for 25hp / 38lb/ft is not close to optimum. When you are not gaining 10hp per +psi then (with what was added here) it is related to the turbo unable to keep up with demand + fueling or backpressure and more than likely ALL three. If you use 102.5 Oct Race Fuel and aren't gaining anything even adding +2psi, why? Simply put, a drop in high flow air filter in the box, intercooler upgrade, and a tune will NET much safer results w/o having to raise the boost to those levels (on the stock turbo of course). You really don't want to mess with the DP with the stock turbo - it's far too small.
