Fantastic discussion and easy to follow. I recently had a pt with a CVA in his brainstem and low and behold, he had no cricopharyngeal movement impacting his UES opening. He and his wife wanted him to at least take in some water or even ice chips....after some time, using MDTP, he was able to successfully move up to a level 5 after FEES and MBS instrumentation. Following the MBS, the pt, his wife and myself cried! I never expected this outcome.....this is why I love what I do!
Thank you for your really informative videos. I have severe Dysphagia. I cannot even swallow my own saliva. I’m in the UK where the NHS were very quick to stick a feeding tube into me and send me off with a life supply of feed. Instead of trying to help me get my swallow back, they give very little practical solutions to my problem. It has driven me mad and the anxiety of knowing that I may never eat or drink again has been very challenging. I wish you were in the UK!! I’d walk a million miles, barefoot if I knew I could drink a glass of ice cold water at the end of it
I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with swallowing issues. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend starting with reading my book: theresarichard.com/so-youre-having-trouble-swallowing/. Then I recommend reaching out to an SLP that you align with - possibly even virtually. Quality of life is super important. Wishing you all the best! Please reach out if I can help any further: theresarichard.com/contact/
First of all this was a very through and informative presentation. What has been your experience with Wallenberg syndrome? I have a family member that suffered a brain stem stroke due to VAD. There has been no improvement within the last 3 months. Do you have any recommendations?
