      SOFREP Radio (podcast) has an episode with ex-unit operator, George Hand IV, who interviews James Williams on the ins and outs of his knives and the utility of the designs. Interestingly, the designs are heavily influenced by Japanese martial arts, with a priority to hand-to-hand combat or cqc. Makes total sense to me, because many operators trust their lives to the quality of these weapons.

    I love James Williams designs and wish him well on his knife company, but the price point on these is just too prohibitive. It's my hope that some of these make its way to a production version with CRKT.

    Awesome to see new designs from Williams. Been a huge fan since the lines James did with CRKT years back. Don't listen to any of the haters. Williams make great knives, as does Winkler and Lionsteel, who they're partnering with these days. I have more than a few friends who carry and swear by Williams knives. No one whose ever carried and used a Williams blade needs any more convincing than that. Great stuff! 👍🏻

    So I guess artificially-manufactured scarcity plays a great deal into the pricing? I mean, $450 for a factory fixed-blade made from micarta and 80crv2? No disrespect, but these makers need to get a grip.

      @@andrewgreiner4681 I care. These are nice knives and all but come on most of these knives from all the different manufactures dont need to be in the hundreds of dollars. You can get a great knife for 100 or less and not be afraid to beat on it. And I have Benchmade, spyderco, Esee, Kershaw, buck, kbar, coldsteel, crkt, and many more. some expensive some cheaper but im not paying 3,4,and 5 hundred for a knife, thats just me.

    I EDCed a crkt heiho for a few years and loved that knife. I broke the tip off of the blade and got it warrantied and planned on carrying it again but my girlfriends little cousin was getting really big into knives and his birthday was coming up so I gifted it to him. As a teenager most of his collection is kind of junk so I wanted him to have something that was actually decent quality, he loved it and he still carries it on a daily basis.

    Kudos for the exposure for James and Christopher and Williams Blade Designs. I have and LOVE the OZF002 and the HZT001 - they are top quality knives made by well respected partners. As for the price, they are 100% in line with Winklers and Lionsteel premium offerings. As for no guards maybe you should look up John Ek knives for an American reference... James is not making this stuff up.

    • @daniel-lee888
      @daniel-lee888 4 роки тому +2

      From Wikipedia: Ek preferred his knives without crossguards for ease of concealment and for quick withdrawal as there was no crossguard to snag on clothing or a soldier's equipment. The grips on Ek's knives had eight scalloped groves:four on each of two grips. This gave the user such a good grip that John Ek found that a crossguard was not necessary to prevent the hand from sliding onto the blade. When questioned about this by the War Production Board, Ek greased his hand and plunged one of his knives into the wooden floor with such force that no one was able to pull it out.

    A lot of these knives are like diamonds not actually that scarce or expensive to get just made to be expensive through marketing and keeping the supply low. It is like a lot of these designers. Sure these are not that cheap of materials and man hours. But they do not need to demand such high costs. Unlike diamonds the demand for these knives is not high. I do not mean to sound like a whining person but it shits me to no end to see this and people constantly complaining.

      Wth are you babbling about? The tan handled pieces made in Winklers' shop may be expensive but a lot of demand is put into the knife. I've relied on my BeltKnife for years and the initial expense covers the no-bullshit forever warranty (which I've had to use). A serious price for serious tools for serious users.

      MBS Do you own a Winkler or a Williams? Have you every used either?... I already know the answer is no, because they're both renowned makers with loyal followings due to the quality of products. It's not simply the materials, it's what people do with those materials. Both a Honda and a Ferrari are made of steel and fiberglass. If it was only about materials, no one would but a high-end performance car.

    • @RagnarokCo
      @RagnarokCo 4 роки тому +1

      It's not special per se. Sword fighting like fencing or kendo involves blocking and parrying with your blade which can leave your hands/fingers in danger for blades sliding into them hence the need for a tsuba/handguard. To generalize self defense with a knife, you are slashing or stabbing in close range so you shouldn't be running into the same situation of blade on blade action.

      @@matthewrobertson232 oh no, i have been burned, and epically roasted, and whatnot. dude, just like look up anything about knife combat man. you know what you're going to see? it is not people trying to stab through the skull of the person. it will universally be slicing or stabbing the major arteries+veins and/or ligaments+tendons or stabbing through the ribcage. maybe kidney stabs, stabbing the spinal cord, or some other more targeted spots, but typically gonna be carotid artery, subclavian artery, femoral artery, brachial+ulnar artery, and obviously stabbing to the heart. these are all places where you can actually do damage and cause the person to bleed out of consciousness very quickly, as well as repeatedly cutting the forearm (or other extended surfaces), as even if they won't be as individually important as the previous locations, it'll still shorten that clock and hopefully disarm them or sever the opponents control of their hand/grip as well as giving them a pain shock that could pass them out even without bleeding or at least shock them for a bit. not the skull, which is a massive hunk of thick bone and generally a sub-optimal target.
