Thank you for all the great content. I have been on the quest of trying to wake up a NA 2010 Impreza Hatchbank with the 1.5 EL15 motor. Awesome looking and handling car, but very slow. The biggest help so far has been a pedal tuning box. DTS, Pedal Commander. I installed a DTS on our main car TDI Passat to help improve pull out and throttle response and it worked perfectly. The Subaru made a big difference too. The box has several settings to change the curve of the pedal position / throttle body signal. It allowed me to dial in the pedal so the power it makes at 3k rpm would be apparent sooner. Otherwise, the car felt limp all the time. I do not think DTS is available in the U.S., pedal commander is probably another good brand. Try one out! Best bang for your buck for tuning.
Really... 190 at the wheel you say. What tune? Seems a bit exaggerated for a 2.0L without any engine work. but maybe if you have a 2.5L Are there any other mods that make the engine have 220 at the crank? Poly bushings FTW
@Jason Leung This was years back with my original Impreza, totaled it so i have another one and havent worked on it yet, but I started off with some small mods, exhaust delete, billet blocks, intake performance filter and charcoal delete with a lightweight water pump and crank pulley change. All in all, on the dyno it bumped my car to 181ish horsepower if I was really pushing it. Reached out to Rallisport automotive and he worked with me through email tunes. After like 1 month and a half, I dyno'd it again and it was 218 crank, 189 wheel with 91 octane.
@Jason Leung I'll add this though, not a good idea to redline it with that tune. It was the complete max that the engine could handle and I lost a piston with a broken crank. The rear strut bar and subframe brace. (pink and yellow) made the rear end considerably more rigid. Excellent for predictable handling. Turns sharper at speed. STI wing is a Subaru optional part. By now I've heard the only remaining inventory is held by dealers for collision replacements. A couple of owners had luck tracking them down calling dealerships around the nation. I think it's going to be tough to get the STI one. However I've seen some aftermarket clones, though I don't know who makes them. You might try Facebook groups: "fb20 society" good luck!
All Impreza models other than the base models came with plastic paddle shifters to change the CVT ratios. If you have a base unfortunately they didn't come with shifters. However there are a few folks who adapted a same year, higher trim TCU (transmission control unit) and steering wheel. They have successfully added paddles. My mod is just aftermarket aluminum paddle extensions.
Such a cool video, thanks man. I totally agree with you that speed and power isn't everything. I am curious though, what are the results of your mods on performance when it comes to acceleration, torque, horsepower? Looking to maybe turn my 2023 Impreza hatch into a project car.
The 2017+ impreza is on the global platform. It's stiffer than the 4th gen Impreza. It also shares many of the components with the newer WRX, Forester, outback, legacy and crosstrek all being on Subarus global platform. The FB20 is a workhorse engine designed for fuel economy. So it will never be able to contend with a car with a larger powerplant. So if your project has aspirations of being a off the line drag car, it will most likely disappoint you. Without forced induction, it's never going to come.close to bigger engine cars. The gains are difficult to quantify since I've never put it on a Dyno. I can say however the car feels much different than when I bought it. I am quite satisfied with how my car handles. Each mod is a cumulative gain. What I built my car for may not suit another person. So if you do decide to build your Impreza as a project car, just know the limitations of a NA motor. And also build it to how you want to drive it. Good luck.
@@JasonLeung-4roller thanks a lot man i appreciate the reply. I am by no means going to drag race my car, it will be a daily driver that i just want to make my own you know? So some subtle modifications would be all i need. I would love it to handle a bit better and feel slightly faster, is all.
Oh. Positive camber. Not good. I am using the camber plates that came on the Fortune Auto coilovers. They use spherical bushing in the top hats. Have you maxed out the camber bolts?
I got lucky with a local Califonia seller with a 2008+WRX who got them from a guy with a Forester who did the import from Japan. JDM without the JDM tax 🥰
The goal of sway bars is to balance roll and oversteer/understeer characteristics. Stock suspension or otherwise, increasing a rear sway bars thickness will help induce a tendency for oversteer. This will typically manifest itself more at the limit of traction. For daily purposes, you will feel more agile around corners. It may be good. But it may be too much for some. The only way to quantify is with the driver him/herself. 🤓
@@JasonLeung-4roller Also another question- What coilovers do you have- I have the exact Impreza expect not sport. looking to make improvements on how it handles.
They are. The wheels I have, have pockets on the face. The spacer and wheel backing are flush. I made sure that I wouldn't have any issues with longer spacer bolts.

I have the 2014 sedan and I already installed a hayden transmission oil cooler (in addition to, NOT deleting the stock CVT cooler) and a K&N air filter, last thing for me would just be exhaust. And BTW, deleting your SPARE TIRE is pretty dumb dude. That's not worth whatever power gain you might get. Good luck getting stranded that makes no sense.
Hi, thank you for leaving a comment. The great thing about these mods are they are bolt on and can be removed. CARB or otherwise. Oh, You own a WRX? It must be nice. You smoke q60s? How about hellcats, EVos, and Ferraris? C'mon it's all relative. Let's get one thing straight. Car tuning doesn't have to be for race cars. One can tune any car to be better than it came from the factory. You are looking to get some exhaust? For what? More power? Better sound? Again, it's something you want for your car. The reason why you enjoy your car. I enjoy the act of tuning. I enjoy driving the car I've upgraded and built for handling.. It doesn't have to be fast. In fact my turbo Honda family sedan is faster than most WRXs. Maybe even yours :) But I like driving my underpowered naturally aspirated Impreza. Especially to get groceries and takeout. I often have to remind myself, who am I to judge another person, based on my own experiences. That person may be living a completely different life. Be kind and rewind. What does power have to do with handling? What does exhaust have to do with aural pleasure? It's all in the eye of the beholder. The spare, I'll deal with.

How did you add the paddle shifts? Do they actually work?
All Impreza models other than the base models came with plastic paddle shifters to change the CVT ratios. If you have a base unfortunately they didn't come with shifters. However there are a few folks who adapted a same year, higher trim TCU (transmission control unit) and steering wheel. They have successfully added paddles.
My mod is just aftermarket aluminum paddle extensions.
Does the Sti wing fit the 2013 year?
Yes.
@@nates7844 great! The Impreza is definitely a great car for that!
Just threw some Tein coilovers on my 2015 impreza and have terrible positive camber in the front. Was wondering what camber plates are you using?
Oh. Positive camber. Not good. I am using the camber plates that came on the Fortune Auto coilovers. They use spherical bushing in the top hats. Have you maxed out the camber bolts?
Bro just bought a 2013 sport premium stick, love this thing what size sti rims can I put on it?
Make sure they are 5x100. Any STI wheels with 5x100 bolt-pattern will fit afaik. Good luck!
Did you buy all the exterior parts in the dealership? With the part number? Or where do I can find those parts
I go online to different dealerships and look for the cheapest pricing and shipping. subarupartsdeal.com occasionally
Where did you get the wheels at?
I got lucky with a local Califonia seller with a 2008+WRX who got them from a guy with a Forester who did the import from Japan. JDM without the JDM tax 🥰
5x100 wheels SoCal (Facebook group)
Would the 22mm sway bar only be good if the suspension is not stock ?
The goal of sway bars is to balance roll and oversteer/understeer characteristics.
Stock suspension or otherwise, increasing a rear sway bars thickness will help induce a tendency for oversteer. This will typically manifest itself more at the limit of traction. For daily purposes, you will feel more agile around corners.
It may be good. But it may be too much for some. The only way to quantify is with the driver him/herself. 🤓
@@JasonLeung-4roller Also another question- What coilovers do you have- I have the exact Impreza expect not sport. looking to make improvements on how it handles.
Is your wheel not flush against your wheel spacer?
They are. The wheels I have, have pockets on the face. The spacer and wheel backing are flush. I made sure that I wouldn't have any issues with longer spacer bolts.
It had crossed my mind. I am still waiting on some , 4-2-1 headers from IF. They are a different low profile design. As for Rally sport. I am not sure they have an EL stainless with a cat option. Or do they?
Ima need a link for just about everything 😅
Where did you get your STI rims from?
Local sale on FB marketplace. It was luck 🤞
@@JasonLeung-4roller and forester rims will definately fit the impreza? is it like universal sizing?
@@fishpack Impreza Forester, Crosstrek use a 5x100 bolt pattern. Subaru has +48 and +53 standard offsets. So yes. Universal fit. Be aware that newer WRXs use 5x114.3 bolt pattern. Those won't fit.
Yo where did u get that cover thing on the rear bumper right below the hatch?
It's a crosstrek rear bumper cover. A bunch of companies make it, take your pick.
@@JasonLeung-4roller thanks man! Your build is dope im getting so much inspiration for my 2013 impreza 5 speed
I have a 2017 Impreza and I’m looking for a spoiler like yours can you pass me the info or is that stock?
I am not sure if the 2017+ have the STI spoiler. But you can check here www.sti.jp/parts/
what made you chose the cvt over the manual?
I live in Los Angeles where traffic is a daily occurrence. Also I didn't think the 5 speed would be good for MPG. I also had never driven a manual. And.. the car that I bought came with the STI spoiler :) I have no doubt that the manual would be a lot of fun.
Awesome vid. I've got to get a Subaru compatible ANCEL scan tool for sure. Also, those rear seat rubber guards are brilliant. I can't find them for a 2011 impreza hatch!
What are your thoughts on rearview mirrors? I was thinking gentex homelink Frameless but you may sway me to the one you got.... It looks simple and effective
i love the Broadway mirror. Its not expensive, more visible area and no need to flip durning the night.
A question, with your imprezza, and i have a 2013 crosstrek, do most parts of both cars compatible to each other or there are differences? Ty
I would say any of the mechanical parts like drivetrain and suspension yes. The body parts like exterior that attach to the front and rear bumpers no.
Are there any parts in particular you are interested in?
What size is the broadway mirror?
I think I got the 300mm
@@JasonLeung-4roller thanks bro! Seems big!
People are wary of the convex. How are finding the flat one?
did you use the 08-13 impreza perrin bushings? also have you kept the stock ECU tune on the car?
For the differential lockdown bushings , yes they are from Perrin for the 08-13 WRX. I can swap between tunes, stock or other. Yes. For the subframe bushings I use Whiteline for the 2015+ WRX.
@@JasonLeung-4roller on the perrin website they have what follows:
08-11 impreza
08-14 WRX
09-13 Forester XT
15-20 WRX
15-21 STI
so you got the WRX differential bushing? thanks for responding this helps me not waste money i had the car for a year but i feel like my long backroad commute will be better with the differential bushings
@@JasonLeung-4roller bhahaha one more question.. CVT CVT CVT.. When do you change the fluid?????
@@king0fskill57 30k if you are hard or 60k If you are light on the car.
@@JasonLeung-4roller ooft. Changing fluid on a transmission is a crap shoot. Better off leaving it no?
Holy fuck you just put me on bro
I just got one I call her yeah her A princess
she's silver I got her some seat covers black and pink with the pillows all the way around headrest and all pink steering wheel cover and I would love to put some
Silver & Pink rims
Dude i bet this thing handles like a mfer😂
"More stout" LOL!
Hah🤭
Pennzoil is terrible! My dad used to rebuild engines and told me to stray FAR away from it!
Pennzoil Platinum works well for me. I also run Castrol Edge Synthetic. What kind of motors did he rebuild? Subarus? Ford's? What years? These days full synthetic oil is pretty well regulated in terms of standards.
@JasonLeung-4roller Motors back in the early 80's. 283s or something like that. He said they would come in all gunked up!
It's not even that powerful and you've also got stuff in there that wouldn't fly in California due to CARB laws. I have the 2014 sedan and I already installed a hayden transmission oil cooler (in addition to, NOT deleting the stock CVT cooler) and a K&N air filter, last thing for me would just be exhaust. It's not a racecar, the WRX is the race car. That's my other car (2014 sedan model), thank you very much, modified enough to smoke an infiniti q60.
