Nice work! The kits came out in both motorised and non-motorised versions in the 70s. Although the motors could be purchased seperately - made by Mabuchi, the gearbox and electricals were not sold seperately. The motorised kits (usually) had full colour painted artwork, whilst the static kits had a plain white background. You're absolutely right - they're great fun to build and make the hobby more affordable.
One of the five tanks kits I have lined up to build. Thanks for the tips. Can’t wait to get stuck into the chieftain.
Enjoy our build..

Thanks for the info and watching..
Excellent build, looks really good, I agree it looks better on a diorama.
Good work on the build mate. I love these vintage Tamiya kits, and Tamiya kits in general.👍
Thank's for watching..
Just got one for £16 which I think is a good bargain, looks great
Good price, enjoy your build
that is a Mk2, Mk5 has a NBC BOX on the back of the turret that one only has a air filter box.
@@terryhagan7694 Thanks for watching and confirming its a Mk2
Great build buddy
I saw a 1/35 motorized version Chieftain selling on eBay awhile ago. 🎉
I had Chieftan in the 1970's, wired with battery box and 2 levers. Not sure what brand, might be Tamiya.
I remember wrapping barrel in painted tissue and fitting a, would it be gas screen where barrel emerges. Used staples for the handles on side armour.
I've done the same as you glued the rollers and missed the site 😅
good job!
How come your tank has two different callsigns.....one for "A" squadron (12A) and one for "B" squadron (22C) ?
@@paganphil100 It's something I do on every build to fish out the fault finding rivet counters who pick faults with other peoples builds.
Mk 5 has the nbc warfare pack on the back of the turret and has a better engine.
in process now for me
@@andrewlott5880 Enjoy your build..
What is your opinion on the Tamiya Leopard A4 im stuck between getting this this or the Tamiya Leopard A4 which one would you recommend?
Chieftain..
These selling for £20, which seems reasonable.
Mine was 17.99 mate really cheap
Mine was $28 aud. Really cheap for a model. So used to spending nearly $200 for Warhammer tanks.
