Suprised to hear that we both got into D&D in 1977, though I’ve got 8-9 years on you age-wise. I was the one who was the introducer to the other kids in the neighborhood, the local DM, and I was writing my own games. So, lots of fondness.
I completely get your attitude toward the games you worked on and the companies you worked with. To do work that you're proud of is a goal that we should all strive for. Discontent with a career becomes soul crushing.
When I saw the title, I instantly thought, "D&D/RPGs" for all the reasons you mentioned. I'd like to add that D&D also increased my vocabulary and knowledge of the real world. It also taught me how to gather facts and problem solve. It taught me risk management. It taught me how to listen and negotiate. It taught me to consider my values and how that impacts my choices. It taught me that imagination has value.
Sweet video. Nice to know you a little more. For me... Uno got me interested in gaming with the family. HeroQuest was me stepping out on my own. Carcassonne for opening doors and language barriers. Finally, The 7th Content for getting me into making soundtracks
Same. ;-)

I totally remember that time in your life and you went to Japan with TMG to find the game Yokohama. Great experience!!!!
