Yeah I agree. I think where it's a soft reboot they won't really stick to the lore too much so they might rewrite the future. But for me this game felt like a bit of reskin of modern warfare and then story was like sledgehammer trying to do a knock off black ops. It didn't feel like Treyarch at their best, it reminded me of sledgehammer
I'm sure that was planned at some point because in the good ending the only way I don't see Adler being in BO2 is if he dies in that draw or both he and Bell die. I wish Activision didn't fuck over Cold War by cutting development by a 1/3. They should realize they don't need a new COD every single year.

Honestly, the evil ending was by far the most impactful to both the player, all the other characters, and to the story. After being brain washed and tortured by your friends, losing your entire identity, and having that devotion to the motherland, turning on your "allies" and butchering them is so much more meaningful than just another generic "save the world" ending. Not just in the story, but in the gameplay. Beyond bland. The slow mo shots as you kill the name characters though, and their dialogue as you do (and in what order you do) is phenomenal. A very ambitious ending, and one that is only weakened by the epilogue where the game exposits the consequences of your choices. However, the evil ending really couldn't be canon since the nukes go off and, presumably, the US is invaded. Regardless of whether Woods or Mason die, that alone would prevent Black Ops 2 from happening. Having said that, the best way for the "good" ending to play out would have been to pretend to be allied with Perseus, get in and wipe out the organisation's high ranking members, abort the launch sequences, and kill anyone who might know anything. Perhaps even pretend to have captured Adler to earn Perseus' trust. This would not only have had more interesting gameplay and story, giving closure to the Perseus arc, but would also have made Adler's eventual betrayal even more surprising if you had the chance to betray him and join Perseus, and he could witness that you didn't. Heck, you could even make that a QTE fight like in the evil ending, make it more definitive rather than a cut to black as you both draw your guns. Anyway, that is just my two cents. Loved all your Black Ops playthroughs, and broadly agree that the canon ending (and the epilogue exposition for them all) drag the game down from great to mediocre.
But Luke, if the bad ending was the only ending, and we established that Block Ops universe is now in the same mw 2019 universe (with Zakhaev and Burger town), you cant go with the bad ending cuse all Europe goes atomic. So no London clean house mission 40 years later because no London :(

That "good" ending (with telling the truth) may not seem like a good ending for the game, but we must admit that Bell/Adler's death was more of a sacrifice to save Europe from destruction. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Bell was part of the Soviet army and was later taken by the group consisting of Adler and Sims and all that. Bell had the information they needed to kill Perseus - And Bell was originally in Perseus's team, which meant that Adler's group would (probably) betray Bell after Perseus is dead. So... ye.. you get it. You either have a choice to either: come back to the Soviet's team and go home peacefully, or go against the Soviet's team to save Europe and be later betrayed.
I prefer the Evil ending where you r with the USSR. If Mason and Woods escape, that would have been perfect. The bad ending V2 is the worst choice ever , i hate this situation when Adler shoots bell without ambush. The good ending makes sense but i would put it in 2nd position after the Evil ending. Its not great or worst, it's just sad and realistic. Edit: the campaign was unfortunately short imo. Bo2 could be non canon, i havent seen anywhere where BO2 is canon , we just have to wait and see in the future. Imagine if Woods and Mason survived the bullets :o

The only reason that you didn’t care for most of the characters is because when you were given the chance to talk to them to learn their backstory you didn’t and went straight into the missions. So that caused you to have no feeling in the characters when you had to save them cause you didn’t take the time to learn about them. I do agree that the good ending is kinda meh. There’s very interesting dialogue with all of them.

Then on my second one I took the time before and after each mission to talk to everybody and was very interested in all the characters. Most content creators just didn’t play the game as it was intended. This game was linear like all the other games but the addition of talking to the others characters is new and nobody used it cause everybody including me just did the missions so people call it mediocre cause they didn’t do what was intended like my self. After my second play-through I much more cared for the characters and appreciated the campaign that was made considering the conditions are in.
They couldn't end the game with the bad ending, cause if they did that then the entire time line wouldn't make sense, cold war takes place before black ops 2, so if the bad ending takes place, menendez would have either won, or maybe his father might not even died, and then the modern warfare story would also be messed up So it wouldn't have been a good idea if they made the bad ending the canon ending
They should have done the "bad" ending, but like Luke said, let Mason and Woods survive to stop the nukes and hunt down the faceless and terrifying Bell(who could be an awesome villain). Perseus could even have been left for another storyline. Even the "good" ending should have allowed Bell to fight Adler and have a chance to survive.

I'm as pro-American as they get, but this is the best ending. Adler deserved to die. I'd love to have seen it where they figure out its either location and teams to both Duga and Solovetsky. The Solovetsky team could be Woods and Mason (with NPCs) and still stop the nukes, but the Duga team of Park, Adler and more NPCs get rocked like we saw. It could then be the canon ending. Instead, we get this awesome, but not canon ending. Then again, they aren't exactly going for historical accuracy given that Reagan had his meeting with the team and authorized that "last mission" more than a week before taking office. lol
They couldn’t have gone with the bad ending because this game has to lead into Black Ops 2’s story. If Perseus nukes the entire continent of Europe, the story of Black Ops 2 wouldn’t work at all.

Yeah, no the bad ending isn’t the way it should have gone. It’s impossible for that to be the canon ending as Mason, Woods and Hudson are all still alive in Black Ops 2 (which this is before canonically) and there’s no sign of any Nuclear attacks in Europe in Black Ops 2. Hence why the ending where Adler supposedly kills you, is the main and canon ending But it definitely is the better ending imo
Really this game sits funny in the timeline due to the MW2019 connection. We can assume the past parts of BO2 happen but the future parts don't work now. That still leaves how Adler doesn't get involved unless he dies at the duel in one way or another. Really my question will be if Menendez becomes a Modern Warfare villain or not. I wish they had time to finish the game since this ending sequence feels super rushed out to me.
This is just my opinion, but I think the word "royal marine" in these videos titles is starting to be a bit irrelevant. (In these gaming videos that is!)

And, with the new connection to MW2019 we have 2 possible timelines unless they are redoing the Menendez story because the 2025 sections are too advanced in BO2 for it to make sense with some major bullshitting.

I like Inkslasher's ending explained video. Imo he gives a solid theory on why Adler killed Bell. Even though the Higher Ups believed Bell was "On their side now" and content with his performance. I do agree it's the most cliche ending, but also the most realistic both irl and in game. Adler is a very secretive man, who won't tell a straight story about his scar (there's dialogue in the safe house to ask him how he got his scar and he'll tell you 3 different, equally outlandish, stories).
I was so sad when you got to the zombies part but you didn't kill one so you instantly got the red door. I wanted to see you freak out lol. Ya know that part in the dark caves when you had a flashlight and 1911.
Okay, so there's a few indication that Persius isn't real. I mean more than "as Persius can be an individual" thing The moustached man with the coat, the "Persius" you see in this ending might be not even present or even real. So what's the proof? First, first time you see him his subtitle reads "Russian Soldier" when clearly anyone will recognize the outfit, regardless of the gas mask. Why his identity is concealed with so little effort? Did you just imagined a random soldier to be Persius? The more damming proof is that Adler don't even acknowledged his presence. He lays there, defeated, with his nemesis supposedly on the door and all he talked is Bell. Even so far as rattling how he cured Bell's nicotine addiction if you let him talk long enough. Also he never did anything really, only handing you a gun in the beginning, which we discussed earlier, and started to radio Solovetsky, which you're the one who said the word. Didn't even interfere when Adler tries to cut your throat, and we've seen worse psychosis and hallucinations with Mason. But didn't we see him in Cuba, you said? Remember, there's no confirmation that he's "The Persius" he's could be a random agent. So really, there's a strong case to be made here.

I wish there was an ending where during the ambush you could Kill "Perseus" and take his radio, cancel the detonation, Kill Adler for what he did to you, then leave Woods and Mason to fend off the remaining Russian soldiers, that way Bell gets his/her revenge and goes of the grid for good or starts a new life, Europe isn't nuked, Perseus is dead and that ties in Woods and Mason's story form BO2 where Woods is captured and Mason has to find him

I feel there should've been at least 2 missions more with some grey morals that would give you more reasons to lie to Adler.

I played all the endings, I liked the ending where the Soviet won, Perseus won and you get to kill off all the main characters.

I'm as pro-American as they get, but this is the best ending. Adler deserved to die. I'd love to have seen it where they figure out its either location and teams to both Duga and Solovetsky. The Solovetsky team could be Woods and Mason (with NPCs) and still stop the nukes, but the Duga team of Park, Adler and more NPCs get rocked like we saw. It could then be the canon ending.
Instead, we get this awesome, but not canon ending. Then again, they aren't exactly going for historical accuracy given that Reagan had his meeting with the team and authorized that "last mission" more than a week before taking office. lol
I agree the bad ending is a good one but then it would mess up the timeline of Black ops like woods doesn't die in the 80s he dies in the 2000s
They couldn’t have gone with the bad ending because this game has to lead into Black Ops 2’s story. If Perseus nukes the entire continent of Europe, the story of Black Ops 2 wouldn’t work at all.
the one where Mason and Wood survived can lead to BO 2. I mean there weren't any mission in Europe

I think if the ending where you choose to help the Americans was less rushed and more fleshed out we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. The canon ending is a bit rushed, but it’s necessary.
The reason they didn’t do the second ending as the Cannon ending is because all of our main characters die in it

Yeah, no the bad ending isn’t the way it should have gone. It’s impossible for that to be the canon ending as Mason, Woods and Hudson are all still alive in Black Ops 2 (which this is before canonically) and there’s no sign of any Nuclear attacks in Europe in Black Ops 2. Hence why the ending where Adler supposedly kills you, is the main and canon ending

Really this game sits funny in the timeline due to the MW2019 connection. We can assume the past parts of BO2 happen but the future parts don't work now.
That still leaves how Adler doesn't get involved unless he dies at the duel in one way or another. Really my question will be if Menendez becomes a Modern Warfare villain or not.
I wish they had time to finish the game since this ending sequence feels super rushed out to me.

Okay, BO2 takes place AFTER this game, no Menendez yet.
And, with the new connection to MW2019 we have 2 possible timelines unless they are redoing the Menendez story because the 2025 sections are too advanced in BO2 for it to make sense with some major bullshitting.

I like Inkslasher's ending explained video. Imo he gives a solid theory on why Adler killed Bell. Even though the Higher Ups believed Bell was "On their side now" and content with his performance. I do agree it's the most cliche ending, but also the most realistic both irl and in game. Adler is a very secretive man, who won't tell a straight story about his scar (there's dialogue in the safe house to ask him how he got his scar and he'll tell you 3 different, equally outlandish, stories).
I was so sad when you got to the zombies part but you didn't kill one so you instantly got the red door. I wanted to see you freak out lol. Ya know that part in the dark caves when you had a flashlight and 1911.

Okay, so there's a few indication that Persius isn't real. I mean more than "as Persius can be an individual" thing
The moustached man with the coat, the "Persius" you see in this ending might be not even present or even real.
So what's the proof? First, first time you see him his subtitle reads "Russian Soldier" when clearly anyone will recognize the outfit, regardless of the gas mask.
Why his identity is concealed with so little effort? Did you just imagined a random soldier to be Persius?
The more damming proof is that Adler don't even acknowledged his presence. He lays there, defeated, with his nemesis supposedly on the door and all he talked is Bell. Even so far as rattling how he cured Bell's nicotine addiction if you let him talk long enough.
Also he never did anything really, only handing you a gun in the beginning, which we discussed earlier, and started to radio Solovetsky, which you're the one who said the word.
Didn't even interfere when Adler tries to cut your throat, and we've seen worse psychosis and hallucinations with Mason.
But didn't we see him in Cuba, you said? Remember, there's no confirmation that he's "The Persius" he's could be a random agent. So really, there's a strong case to be made here.

I wish there was an ending where during the ambush you could Kill "Perseus" and take his radio, cancel the detonation, Kill Adler for what he did to you, then leave Woods and Mason to fend off the remaining Russian soldiers, that way Bell gets his/her revenge and goes of the grid for good or starts a new life, Europe isn't nuked, Perseus is dead and that ties in Woods and Mason's story form BO2 where Woods is captured and Mason has to find him

The "bad ending" is the worst Imo, Watching Mason Woods & Park/Lazar was painful, I loved Adler he is maybe my favorite character out of all COD behind Reznov, he was so much LIKE a CIA , not Hudson that doesn't want to face his decision, Adler was hella badass, I totally understand ppl getting pissed at him bc he shots Bell in the "good" ending" but its what he had to do. I hope we see him in other COD.
