The Secret of Chimney's is lots of fun! One of my favourite "non-Poirot-non-Marples" 🙂
Oh, I love the Phantom Tollbooth. I have Anne of the Island on my April list.
My boys LOVE The Phantom Tollbooth. We first listened to it when they were 8-9 years old. We have read or listened to it probably a dozen times since then. My boys are 18 now and they still love it. We quote from it all the time.
Ooh, that sounds so great, Diana!
So glad we can Dnf books even if it’s apart of the challenge! I’m struggling through the one I’m reading now. But I also have an unfortunate hard time dnf-ing books in general 🤷🏾♀️
Thank you, Chantel, for checking out my book, To End Every War! I'm excited to hear more of your honest thoughts in the future about it!
All of these books sound so good! I do want to say that I absolutely loved 'Enhanced' by Candace Kade - It made my top ten reads of 2023 and I highly recommend!
I'm likely going to still be finishing up my March reads, in April. I'm reading Un Lun Dun, The Traded Prince and The Illustrator's Guide. I should be finished with the audio book The Book Thief, before April, so I will be able to add an audio book to the list. I'm just not sure which hold will come open first, on Libby
I read The Phantom Tollbooth with my 9 and 7 year old last summer and we had a blast! We all cracked up so much and they still bring up scenes and quotes all the time. It's very silly so it works great as a read aloud.
That's so great!
I watched The Phantom Tollbooth animated film adaptation when I was a kid and loved it. I didn’t realize until several years ago that it was actually a book though. I read it aloud to my sons. My oldest was 9 at the time and we both had fun with it. He’s 12 now and my younger son is 8. It’s time for a reread I think!
Oh fun!
My brothers and I loved The Phantom Tollbooth when we were kids! I think your son would too!
I just finished Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters this month and loved them! Would like to add The Enchanted April to my TBR and I’ve been wanting to read Elizabeth Goudge for a long time now. Thank you for sharing 😄
Blood of the Stars is definitely on my "read soon" list! For April, my red-haired lady selection is Part of Your World, which is a rom-com....and that's all I know...I'm just going to read it without knowing anything else. I haven't read a rom-com in awhile, or anything my Abby Jimenez. We shall see. I've been feeling like reading chunky books recently. My son is begging me to read The Bound and the Broken series by Ryan Cahill. He says it's the best fantasy book he's read....and it's a CHUNKER!!! Maybe it's one you'd be interested in eventually.
Ooh, I'm going to look into The Bound and The Broken, thanks!
I really enjoyed Enchanted April. As a kid, The Phantom Tollbooth was one of my favorites. It’s so strange and fun.
I love anything Agatha Christie since middle school when I discovered her books!
❤ I'm re-reading Gone with the Wind, The Inheritance (for Alcott April), another George Eliot that's 3 novellas called Scenes of a Clerical Life, Lady Audley's Secret (Victorian sensation novel), and Ruth by Elizabeth Gaskell. Maybe a few other things...we shall see.
Sounds like a good month, I really want to read Ruth soon!
OOh. I'm always interested in books about clergy! And I picked up Ruth recently.
I haven't finished a lot in March, either, so lots of carry overs. I didn't realize Ginny Moon had a red-headed main character - whole family, actually - so i may try that one. It's an adoption story, but I haven't heard anything about it, other than the bit on the back.
Hi, I loved that trilogy by Elizabeth Goudge, but I’m pretty sure the first one is Pilgrim’s Inn. So look into that. 😊
Goodreads says Pilgrim's Inn is book two, I've heard good things about that one so I want to read The Bird in the Tree so I can read Pilgrim's Inn. 😊
The writing in these books is very lovely!
Read enhanced first and let us know how you liked it?
I’m very interested in To End Every War. I hope it’s good
I'll definitely let you know!
❤📚Enjoy your April travels and reads! I enjoyed The Enchanted April.
I have way too many books on my TBR for April. Aside from finishing books I've already started, I think the one I want to get to the most is Aggie Morton: A Dead Man in the Garden. The cover reminds me of spring, and I just read the second book in December. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on Blood of Stars!
I'm currently reading My Imaginary Mary and loving it. I probably will not finish this month, so I will continue in April.
Have you read My Contrary Mary already? Curious to hear your thoughts!
I have not. I'm scared I will not like it... that's why I picked up My Imaginary Mary first. I also have left to read My Plain Jane.
Love the Phantom Tollbooth and the animated film adaptation!
I am dying to know what you think of The Enchanted April. I tried. I really did. But maybe it gets better. It was one of the fastest DNFs I've ever had (that wasn't caused by foul language/smutual content).
But you have a couple there calling my name. Eeep!
I'm going to be reading Anne of Green gables in April.
Oh fun!
My favorite ❤️
Oh my! I feel the same way, my family is moving in mid-July and it has been a big mind consuming, and stressful endeavor! I have also been trying to read, but it’s been harder with so much to think about and to do. Many prayers as you continue to go forward with your move.
Yes! Apparently my brain can't think of too many things at once. I'm definitely looking forward to being moved and a bit settled.
@@ChantelReadsAllDay same! 😂
I read Phantom Tollbooth aloud to my 10- and 13-year-olds last summer and we all absolutely loved it!
That's awesome!
I added Blood for the Stars to my TBR because it sounds amazing and totally up my alley!
I’ve been reading slower this month too but I got through a decent amount of books I own so I’m happy. ☺️ Good luck with your reading and travel and moving plans!
I hope we both enjoy Blood of the Stars!
The only ones I know for sure in April are Dear Henry, Love Edith and Twice Told Tales. Our library couldn't get either of them so I purchased both and am putting them in my teen daughter's Easter basket-we both get to enjoy them😉
Hehe, I may have done something similar with my daughter's Easter gift . . . 😊
You are in your fantasy era! We had The Phantom Tollbooth in my house when I homeschooled but I don't think we read it. I wish we had! It's on my list for the grands!!!!
Good Morning!
I have very few plans for April, the only ones I can think of for sure are
- Bridge to Terabithia
-One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig
I've been paying attention and every book I've read yhis year has had a redhead character or at least someone in the background
-Dragonfall by L.R Lam is full of redheads
-The Lost Village by Camilla Sten is my current read and it has more than one redhead
Highly recommend reading Phantom Tollboth with your children. My husband read it to our children, and they still talk about it 10 years later! Many of them have picked ot back up to reread. It's great!
That sounds great, we'll have to do it as a read aloud!
Enhanced sounds amazing!!!! I think im gonna buy it😂❤
I so enjoyed The Enchanted April. It took me a bit to get into it, and the whole book seemed... slow? But it really was lovely. It felt like Rebecca to me only in the sense that as I was reading it I kept double-guessing my choice, but the end was worth it. It's been a couple of years since I last read it, but it is going on my April TBR.
In direct opposition to another comment, don’t read aloud The Phantom Tollbooth 😂
I read it aloud to my kids and we all basically hated it. We thought it might have been tolerable as a solo read, the concepts were good, but we couldn’t stand the main character. Somehow it just fell flat for us 🤷♀️
What Katy Did Next sounds like Amy's story in Little Women! I loved All the Lost Places. The setting was amazing!
To End Every War looks very interesting!
It does, I'm really looking forward to it!
I really enjoyed All the Lost Places last year. It got 5 stars from me. We have had similar thoughts about Dykes's books, so I think you're going to like it.
I plan on reading a Mrs. Pollifax (of course), Wormwood Abbey (redhead), and The Divine Proverb of Streusel next month. I have other books I hope to get to as well, like Frost Light (which was an inexpensive ebook when I bought it).
Ooh, it sounds like you have a great April reading month planned! And good to hear about All the Lost Places!
@@ChantelReadsAllDay I also just picked up Enhanced from my library today. 😁 I was a little surprised they had it.
@@ashleamarshall9370 yay! That's great they had it!
