  • Short teardown and analysis of the electronics inside a Schlage smart door lock based on IRIS/ZWave technology. I also try to control it via a Moteino instead, will it work?
The blog post with other details is here: lowpowerlab.com/blog/2014/11/1...

thanks. very helpful. I'm looking to convert to solar power battery. Your power information was very helpful. I'm planning the motor taking 30ma. I'm wondering if the system would work using 4v in stead of 6? My schlage encode I know works at 5v.

    thank you very much .
can you use a shelly uni inside the door lock to control the lock ?
it has 2 dry contact and it's powered by 12v.

Thanks! Great primer on how they work.

Coincidentally I installed the non-zwave version of this latch set a month or two ago. It has a lever on the inside to disable or bypass the lock. The lever just activates a microswitch. It could be a lot easier to hack.

Hi, Have you any idea where I could get new DC motor for this lock?

if there's a tiny spring shouldn't a strong magnet be able to bypass the locking mechanism

Great video!!! Thanks for sharing! What's the purpose of MOSFET in battery voltage monitor? I'm guessing it prevents unnecessary drain on battery by resistors load?

Yes it turns it ON only whenever a reading is needed, OFF otherwise to avoid any drain.

LDO's are not efficient, but at low currents and or low input to output voltage are great and silent. Average current of this device is so low, that wouldn't be better to use switch mode supply, since itself would draw more average current than device itself

Hi I'm from China where people usually live in an apartment, and use this kind of central control mechanism to open the main door of the building, I'm also interested to hack in the device and control the door from my home(not opening anyone else's door). I'm wondering in this video you explained how to control the button, is there a way you can hack in to two wires(in front of keypad, some kind of date line) you mentioned?

If I understand your question correctly, then the answer is yes. at t=4:50 the author begins to explain that he will wire in his controller to drive the keypad switches 'active-low' (zero volts) to simulate a user pressing a button. Hopefully, this answers your question.

I dont like those proprietary tech like z wave but looks like a perfect applicstion for small solar cell.

If you’re trying to pronounce the name imagine a sledgehammer but make the sledge part sound like age and you’ve got the correct pronunciation Schlage hammer!

The fact that people can’t pronounce Schlage cracks me up every time. If you know anything about locks you should know how to pronounce the name L O L. It’s S L A AGE. It rhymes with age.
