  • In The Stopover series I’ll take you around the city and show you the best of what you can enjoy, visit and eat in a short stopover of 24 to 48 hours. We won’t see everything, but we’ll make the most our time at wherever in the world we are!
In the second episode we’ll discover Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Overshadowed by many of its neighbours, Bratislava is less touristed, small and fairly cheap by European standards.
For this 24 hours in Bratislava, we’ll start the day with the coffee on the main square before exploring the old town.
We’ll visit and climb the Old Town Hall, see the Church of the Annunciation, the Slovak National Theater, the Blue Church, Gamča and the fun statues such as Čumil, the man in a manhole.
There’ll be lunch Savage Garden, and a visit to the Presidential Palace, Bratislava castle and the great views from the UFO bridge / tower.
After all the sightseeing they’ll be beer at Kollarko, an epic traditional dinner at the classic Slovak Pub and off to 100 pív craft beer bar & shop to finish the day.
Come along for one epic day in Bratislava!

Like what you did here, short and sweet, still a beautiful presentation quite nice.

I hope you got up into the High Tatras, Chris. We missed Bratislave last trip, but we loved the mountains. Hope all is well.

Sadly not, I was limited to a short stop in Bratislava then flew to Zagreb. Maybe next time!

Have a great trip! Make sure you go up the UFO tower/bridge as well. Great place for a sunset view and drink in the bar.

I am from Slovakia.. I was born in Kosice ( second largest city on the other side of Slovakia - 9 hrs by train ). Slovak people ( outside of Bratislava ) Do not really like our Capital.. I consider it one of the worst capitals in Europe. It is really expensive for a living standard you get. Also many Slovaks go to Vienna to rent an apartment and to work.
The city is quite small, and besides really small city center, castle and Dunaj river, there is not much to see. Slovakia is Beautifull in nature. The cities no so much. For people traveling to Slovakia, I would recommend 1-2 days in Bratislava ( you can take ferry from Vienna ), and then visit Bojnice (1 day) , a fairytale castle, then High Tatras mountains (1-2 days), then Spissky hrad and Spissky podzamok village (1day) and finish in Kosice (1 day). From there you can fly to other European countries for as little as 20 usd.

Sounds amazing! I didn't have much time when I was there but would love to travel outside of Bratislava. Still I enjoyed my short time there.
