Twice, i almost got hit by delivery mopeds while crossing the street. I see these drivers ignoring lights and going the wrong way. They are menacing. Thank you, mayor, for putting an end to it.
This is the issue. Creating a convenient way to get food. Creates utter chaos in a struggling polite society just for convenience. Whoever couldn't see this becoming an issue in today's society is oblivious . It's such a wasteful industry deteriorating the human condition for comfort and convenience.
FUN FACT: scooters/mopeds with engines of 49cc (most of what you see on our streets) are LEGALLY ALLOWED to ride in bike lanes. Most of the other behavior is seriously problematic, but please stop presenting bike lane travel like it's illegal.
*To the drivers of scooters: If you, by choice and free will, drive safely, then big government won't stick their annoying noses into your everyday business. Be considerate. Think about the safety of your own community. It's not about what is legal or illegal...it is about what is wrong and right. Boston driving sucks already, so don't make it worse so that the crappy mayor makes more laws...she is treating you like children because, collectively, you are driving like children. Everybody knows that many of you are Doordashing under someone elses name...so don't bring attention to yourselves by driving with no consideration to the rest of society.
Cops here have orders to not pull over mopeds because they can't safely catch them. The only way they've been able to do any enforcement is by impounding 'peds that are parked on the street (or sidewalk - which is legal, for the record,) though they could be doing a lot more of this.
Yeah, pretty much. The ordinance is targeting big delivery platforms and their drivers, making them deal with extra bureaucracy and insurance costs. If you're just riding your e-bike independently, it doesn’t affect you. It’s more of a headache for those stuck in the system relying on gas-powered mopeds or working for these companies without proper protections. Your setup-long-range e-bike, no gas dependency-sidesteps the whole issue. So, from your perspective, it’s kind of a joke, especially if you see the regulation as just another way to control or penalize people in the system rather than actually improving conditions.
So making it cost more will hurt poor guys just tring to make a living. Wu is a taxing leader that has to micro manage everything. Those bike lanes finally made it easy for those delivery drivers to safely deliver food around town. Please
I drive a limo and I am down there all the time I have seen people get hit and even seen the guys on the bikes get hit running red lights. Something had to happen before someone gets killed.
@immyownbestfriend9338 the mayor us lying and squeezing more money out of you and the citizens and you're like it's fine! Boston is a lefty looney city
Another reason to drive or take public transportation, since walking isn't safe downtown. Walking in the street in some instances may be safer than on the sidewalk. It's gotten that bad.
I usually disagree with the mayor but she is on the right path here. Grub Hub, you could care less about pedestrian safety. You and the other food delivery services should have addressed this issue years ago. It is disgraceful that you allow drivers to break the law without penalty. She should fine you guys into oblivion until you make the appropriate changes. For one, all drivers should have a delivery ID on their scooters that is large enough to be able to identify the driver and make a formal complaint to not only Uber, but to Boston PD. You ruined a good thing thanks to greed and ignoring public safety.
Move out of the City to suburbia. Everyone drives crazy in cities. The worst traffic in America is Boston according to the insurance companies. I want my pizza hot and cheap.
Hopefully more cities do this. I see many of these delivery food drivers in the city I live in riding on the sidewalk. Some of them have even passed me from behind when I’m walking on the sidewalk riding on the sidewalk.
Access to hot prepared meals. This is especially helpful for pedestrians/people w/o vehicles, elderly, new moms, disabled, and those w/ last minute urgencies. It’s shocking that you are that young or that dense to truly not know the basic purpose of food delivery services.
Well they should have basic liability on the damn scooters it requires a driver's license to drive anything with a motor in it that includes e-bikes honey ask the RMV and the DMV in any other federally maintained motor vehicle department anywhere in the United States it's required by law not that anybody actually follows the law so great idea mayor wu, I actually agree with her for once....
No because it's required by law to have full coverage insurance when you're driving for GrubHub or Uber eats or any other delivery service including Postmates so stop making excuses because you don't want to do a good job Uber
they aren't "just" working, they're putting pedestrians at risk and they aren't paying their dues. They need to pass a driving test and pay for insurance just like everyone else and then use the road not the bike lane. Illegals don't care about our laws though
The reporter doesn't even know how to pronounce "Tremont" Street. lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I know right🙄
Tremont 就是發這樣音 因為我是住在這條街道 没有去深層研究 真不要批評
It Looks Very Manly To Me The Lips And The Jaw Gives It Away

We don’t need new permits - we just need to enforce the laws that we ALREADY HAVE!! Why does Wu hate Boston citizens?
just call ice
After ICE has come over the traffic around Chelsea has slow down
Yes! And I love it!!! 😂
Does that posting actually mean something? Impossible to tell.
What they are saying is, you need insurance and registration just like a motorcycle and you should have a license.
In MA, a drivers license and registration ARE required for 49cc mopeds/scooters. Insurance is not. Food delivery companies just haven't cared.

They deliver drugs for cartels and masscass,, hundreds there a day, delivering death,

Maybe it should be illegal. it's dangerous.

Why add a new fee to certian folks? Why not just enforce the rules of the road and Boston Police write tickets?
Because Govt Jobs is to Come Up With As Many " FEES" as they Can....Soon They'll Create a FEE to Charge a FEE for Food Companies.
I Saw them break 200 traffic rules , never saw a single cop talking to them or giving a ticket

Maybe is time to call ICE

This mayor Suxs!! More money for food!! More permits! Use police for safety not raise prices to live
oh no, you might have to actually prepare your own meal.
@immyownbestfriend9338 the mayor us lying and squeezing more money out of you and the citizens and you're like it's fine! Boston is a lefty looney city
I want my McDernalds and I want it now.
Lol 😂
Another reason to drive or take public transportation, since walking isn't safe downtown. Walking in the street in some instances may be safer than on the sidewalk. It's gotten that bad.
Walking is pretty safe downtown lol, there’s like one tiny slightly sketchy area near park street but that’s it
call ICE.

Michelle WUHAN strikes again!
Racist
Woke wuu ... turn the city up side down...
Ban the damn mopeds
ICE should check all food delivery drivers if theyr'e in the country illegally
D.C., Philly, is Oston next? Yikes... :) :) :)
I've never had food delivery. Why do people do that?
It’s great when you are stuck in a hotel for weeks
people got lazy after covid

It’s shocking that you are that young or that dense to truly not know the basic purpose of food delivery services.
It's the migrants that have come here under Wu and Healys invitation doing most of this. Most of them don't even have a license.
Instead of bringing cost of living down we want to spent money on that stupid stuff .
Well they should have basic liability on the damn scooters it requires a driver's license to drive anything with a motor in it that includes e-bikes honey ask the RMV and the DMV in any other federally maintained motor vehicle department anywhere in the United States it's required by law not that anybody actually follows the law so great idea mayor wu, I actually agree with her for once....
don't mo'fos' that live there own a stove ?
Don’t be obtuse.
No because it's required by law to have full coverage insurance when you're driving for GrubHub or Uber eats or any other delivery service including Postmates so stop making excuses because you don't want to do a good job Uber
It's All About More Control
they don't do that to walk in orders. why do that to deliveries?
You don’t think they should have insurance and be registered? It is a motor vehicle.
Good thing i use an ebike.. 100 miles range.. corny insurance roflmao
Leave them alone, they are just working.... they could be out robbing people. Seriously, just trying to bother folks.
they aren't "just" working, they're putting pedestrians at risk and they aren't paying their dues. They need to pass a driving test and pay for insurance just like everyone else and then use the road not the bike lane. Illegals don't care about our laws though
they already are robbing people
It's "TRE-mont," not "TRAY-mont." At least try to PRETEND you know about Boston.
English trumps your nuanced accent. Put your grownup pants on.
Such idiots, it won't work. There are ways around this.
Starting by impounding illegal drivers
This is low. Demonizing food delivery drivers....
I mean they are demons. They don’t give a damn about the law, and put everyone else at risk.
They are demonizing food delivery on a scooter? They are reckless and could give two F about following the law.
good.
Deport them
call ICE.
Great more taxes.
Wu sucks
Mayor Wu is beyonnd her depth ad a civil servant. Tax tax tax tax tax tax. This is her only thinking
Theyre angry, and underpaid... so. yeah
