  • The e-motion power-assisted wheel is mounted on the wheelchair in place of the manual wheel. The batteries are integrated in the wheel hub. A sensor registers the propelling movement and activates the electrical motors.

I have a set of Servo wheels by AAT that work like this, the battery is separate, but the wheels are still 10 kg each. Nevertheless I can load the chair in my car by taking it apart. I am a double amputee, and I can stand on one of my artificial legs to load it in the trunk and use my crutches to get to the driver's seat! Most users would need assistance to load this chair, unless they had a vehicle with a ramp. I tried the smartdrive MX2 but it could not get me up my gravel driveway! The smartdrive would be of use if you were not heavy like me and if you only traveled on smooth surfaces. My Servo AAT wheels have taken me to most places and up 99% of the hills and ramps I encounter everyday where I live in the mountains! They have the power I need and the portability! Yes they are expensive, and I have travelled with them. I recommend insuring the chair and wheels in case of damage! I did have a damaged wheel in my travels but I am unsure when and where the damage occurred. The local importer of the chair in Canada, came to my rescue and in conjunction with AAT assisted me to get mobile again!

Why the voice change? Has anyone noticed it's a much older voice on a younger woman? 1:57 is her real voice. ???
What kind of ani tip bars are those...does anyone know? If I have to have them on my chair, I may as well get neat looking ones.

Have them for some years now..
Love them - it's the difference for me between not wheeling myself or do it... with electric chair or these wheels... Love it. But I doesn't take them on vacation - are afraid of how the airports will handle them.
Only thing I hate is the big remote :( Wish there was a much smaller, or app (guess it's not possible with this version).

Hi Annika, you are very sensible not to take these wheels to airports. I took a wheelchair from London to New York and one of the brakes was completely broken when I arrived. Glad to hear of your your success with these wheels. You have had more luck than me! :-)

Ohh yeah - It's my biggest fear on every vacation... a broken chair. Especially because we mostly are on "roadtrips".
Sorry to read your experiences - except new batteries I have great succes. Use 80% mostly and my record is 22 km in one day...
Maybe it sound wild that I got these wheels then, but without the help I can't drive 500 meters - 100 meter and I'm in pain.
By first motorized wheels where the other type (2 wheels, and a portable battery on the back. 2001 I think I got them) Got 2 batteries if else I didn't have enough - and well.. didn't work as well for me.
But it's perfect that there are several types to choose between :)

I don't understand the idea of using hands all the time as if there is a usual wheelchair w/o power assist. That's how it looks on the video. There are other power devices that are attached to a usual wheelchair, and it takes only few times to use hands on wheels to control the movement.

The idea is to assist your muscle power, especially going up hills! The sustain push is adjustable depending on the setting, as well as on the various devices, It depends on user preference and device capability and power.

We just got these wheels with my 7'yr olds chair. He doesn't like them:( they are super heavy. I'm going to keep them and have them for distance for him.

I just got these for my chair and they are like 20 lbs per wheel! I will not be able to use these on my own if I have to travel. I will have to have someone assist me. They are very heavy.

"I thought I needed these until I tried them! Unfortunately they are tremendously heavy, so unless you have a ramp in your car or a hoist you are stuck. I got my e-motion wheels for free after posting on a forum, a kind person sent me a second hand pair. Within a few hours they sold on EBay."
"I had a pair sent to me for free after posting on a forum. Unfortunately the wheels where so very heavy I couldn't lift them! As they were second hand I sold them on ebay. Now I have a normal powerchair instead and it was a much cheaper and more reliable option for me."

They cost more than a complete wheelchair.
