- René Ronge, owner of License to Skill, shares her top tips on what to do to ensure that you pass your RE1 or RE5 exam.

Real examples are used to show you where persons typically make their mistakes that might lead them to failing the exam. Passing the RE first time is possible and happens everyday.
René was one of the first facilitators to start training the material to pass the RE1 & RE5 exams. The first round of training was done for the FIA brokers and professional members of the IISA. Thereafter she realised what was needed to ensure that people are prepared to the best of her abilities to ensure that they pass, and she and her team have been doing that ever since.
You might not realise why you keep on failing the exam and you might think that you will never pass. We have had people come to us that has written the exam in excess of 20 times. Imagine that! Imagine how despondent a person gets. And after attending our training, after the very next try, they passed!
Some of the useful stuff we teach is provided in this video to you, free of charge. Because it is extremely important to me that every competent person, that does the right thing, that acts in the best interest of clients and that should pass this exam, does.

Hi Rene thank you for your informative video last year December I wrote my RE 5 and I passed🙌🙌 😘✍️✍️✍️we purchased your study guide Material with my colleagues that really helped cos your material it's summarised and specifically focus on the information that RE5 reps should study and focus on when studying. Another thing that helped me it was revising 500 questions and answers level 1 to Level 4. I thank the Lord for granting me this coz my DOFA date expired already when I wrote.❤️

When I wrote my RE5 majority of the questions were there and I managed to get 74%. After the third attempt I managed to pass, how I managed to pass was studying and reading and I attended a workshop similar to Reńe that was arranged by my employer. All the tips given by Reńe are helpful.
I want to write RE1 this time around so that I can apply for my license and be able to sell all the products I'm currently selling through my employer, without RE1 I will only sell 1.1 and 1.19 under CAT I independently.

I understand you would have liked even more from this video, but the intention of the video was not to give you the answers, but rather get you to see how they try catch you out. One cannot study for this exam by completing mock exams. Mine is purely there to show you the pitfalls. Rather study the material well, because then you can answer any question.

Does questions change ,or its same questions different papers
There are 5 000 questions of which you will get 60. That is why I don’t like the majority of mock exams out there. Rather study the material very well and know what to look out for, but one cannot prepare for this exam only using mock exams

Hey, not if it’s actual short term insurance, no. There are a few product that are exempt, but not actual short term like contents, vehicle, buildings and so forth. Then you need your RE

I'm due to write my RE1 on 01/06. I'm going through the draining FAIS acts and other subordinate acts. I'm not any close to being ready, last wrote my RE5 in 2016. What would you suggest I do, except from hoping the examiner postpones because of the pendamic?

Wait, the second question you went, over, you didnt not ANSWER the question. In the question wrt to the code of conduct eg "Provide the client with 3 different quotations" What is the right answer????
Oh my goodness, did I not? it is the 3 different quotes that is the correct answer, as that is not necessary. It is a norm, but not prescribed anywhere. The act just says you should offer more than one IF you can, i.e. you are not a direct insurer and act on behalf of more than one insurer.
Hello. Thank you for the informative video. I have an LLB degree and I want to enter the compliance field. I have been told that doing an RE is beneficial. May I please ask which industries I can apply in without any experience in the insurance or banking industry with an RE 1 and 5?

Only Key Individuals need RE1. Representatives, i.e. insurance advisors and so forth, only need RE5. So I suggest you start with RE5 now, and do RE1 a bit later. Unless you need both, then only study the RE1 material as it covers RE5 too, and then write both. I usually write them on the same day, RE1 in the morning and RE5 in the afternoon, but it is exhausting, so I will recommend doing it over two days, at least. Best of luck!

Hey Nhlanhla, you are not able to be a FAIS representative without it, so would need it eventually when you deal with any of the financial products governed by the FSCA, as described in the FAIS Act (Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act). You need a qualification, experience, Class of Business training, Product Training, the RE certificate and thereafter you would need to embark on CPD (Cont. Professional Development) to ensure you stay informed.

Hi, no, they are not. Not in RE1 or RE5
I'm not sure if you will see my comment since this was posted a year ago. I'm an investigator by profession and I have only worked in the public sector. I want to get into the insurance sector. I want to know what the difference between RE1 and RE5 is and which one you would recommend for my profession.
RE5 is for Representatives
RE1 is for key individuals e.g Manager's
My apologies, I missed your comment. Yes, RE1 is for Key Individuals who manage and oversee the rendering of financial services by representatives (whom RE5 is for), on behalf of the FSP (Financial Services Provider).

How long does it take to study for it?
That really depends on your study method and how quickly you learn and retain knowledge. Some people need to summarise and do mind maps and practice them over and over, so then I would say a few weeks. Some people read it and watch this video and go write and pass, so for them I would say a few days to read it a few times.

Between re1 and re5 which one is the most difficult
Dear Anela, RE5 is for Reps and RE1 is for Key Individuals. You only need RE1 if you need to register as a Key Individual. RE1 covers everything in RE5 and a bit extra on most areas, such as supervision, financials, risk managements and so forth. No necessarily more difficult - just more work and a longer exam with a little less time to complete it, as RE5. I trust this answers your question. Best wishes, René
