You say mistake, I say creating design detail! Necessity is after all the mother of invention! Looks amazing, and if you hadn’t declared it, no one would have been any the wiser
I'm so glad you were able to salvage your so pretty corset. I think your save is so lovely and you look really good in it. It's nice to have a video where there's no music, no excessive chatting, just sewing and talent. Thank you for being you and being different in what you do. Your subtitles are brilliant.
The solution was so elegantly executed. The little detail of the buttons and loops, the lace overlay, the shape of the inserts...it was all just perfect. Honestly that mistake was serendipitous. And that coutil is probably the most gorgeous corset fabric I've seen anyone use on a corset. I hope it is comfortable and you are able to enjoy wearing it after all that hard work. My busty corset story is that I am still in the thinking stages. There isnt an easily available pattern for a Victorian sport corset in my size and my drafting skills are non existent. So I keep watching make videos, store up ideas, improving sewing techniques and hoping a pattern in my size is released some day.
I just got home from a very hectic day at work. Phones nonstop, tons of weekend problems to solve and constant loud car repair noises. This is the perfect quiet calming way to regenerate. Thank you 🥰
A triumph! You avoided derailment beautifully. I love the ‘collar’ addition to add the extra length. The corset is so pretty and the coutil was the perfect choice. It turned out so well And you have the perfect figure for it too ) I hope you are delighted with it you super talented maker of wonderful things.
Making a corset is a big challenge, but saving it with scraps and ingenuity is exactly what people would have done when such corsets were being made, particularly at home. So many extant bits of clothing show piecing. Today, with our flush-it-and-forget-it mentality, piecing is saved for quilts, using all new fabric, of course. I think you did a great job and figuring out how to correct a mistake is where the real meaning of "art" comes in to play. You did a great job!
One of the prettiest corsets I've seen, and your clever fix makes it even better. I like your cutting and ironing style - dramatic and slightly menacing. "Busty corset miss" 🤣 very unsafe search terms there!
It gives me so much more confidence to try making some thing that looks complicated when I see that everyone makes mistakes so it’s OK if I do as well!
It is so gorgeous! I would have dissolved into a puddle of sadness if that had happened to me…I would not have been able to come up with such a clever and beautiful fix. Thank you for showing that mistakes can be overcome
The coutil that you used has the most beautiful design and colour. All I can find is natural, beige, white or black and nothing with a pattern so thank you for sharing the name of the merchant that you purchased it from. Once more scissor cutting extraordinaire...it sends ripples of pure pleasure through my body. :)
While it may be an electric sewing demon, I do love your machine since it was the first I learned to sew on! Also this entire video is just so relatable, thanks for sharing!
@@JuulThijssen It's such a nice machine, my mom has the exact same one and I learned how to sew on it as well. I now have my own trusty Singer, but that Pfaff taught me most of what I know.
I love your solution! It's possible the fit issue came from not boning your mock-up on both sides. The extra compression might have pushed up more of your curves towards the bust.
Are you even wearing a corset if you don't lose a bite of your snack down the front? *laughing* I love everything about this video except the part where you were sad, because I don't love seeing you sad. But I do like how cleverly you dealt with your challenge - literally winging it! It's a gorgeous corset and the fit and shape are stunning. Very nicely done! (I also adore your humour!)

Great video! You spent a lot of time and put a lot of thought into this corset, and it shows! I actually LOVE your solution to the bust height issue. You know what it reminds me of, is those bras that have the non-stretch poly satin for the bottom panels of the cup, and then the top third of the cup will be some kind of illusion lace/net that's slightly stretchy. Corset coutil is, obviously, the opposite of stretchy, but nevertheless, the fact that the top part of the bust isn't boned, means it will have relatively more give than the rest of the corset. So, I love it as a design choice, because I feel like it will soften up the top "bump" you sometimes see when corsets are worn under clothes without a corset cover. I'm mulling over an idea in my head for some kind of lightweight corset/bralette?? type garment to suit my personal needs for daily wear in a warm climate, and I was unsure about boned cups vs. princess seams all the way to the top, so I may actually incorporate something quite like this in my design.

That is such a good fix! I’ve only ever made four boned garments, and all of those around fifteen years ago in my early twenties. The first one was a wearable (-ish) mockup, the second one a corset top I made to match a mermaid tail skirt and go goth-clubbing in, the third a remake of an 80’s blouse into a victorian-ish boned bodice and the fourth a fake leather armor with gold embroidery. They all had their... let’s call them quirks and jury rigged fixes, and they all looked fairly bad inside but very good once worn. Historybounding supported by punk-stitching for the win! @@JuulThijssen Yes, very different. It would be interesting to return to it now, after all this passive research I’ve been doing (i.e. watching people make stuff on youtube) and see how much it has changed my practical understanding. Lately I have mostly been knitting and crocheting (because I have not had the mental or apartmental space for extensive sewing) and those crafts definitely excercise the understanding of how to make surfaces into three-dimensional coverings in a different way. It would be nice to visit the other end of the garment spectrum again and make some structured, built up things. I have a heavy and worn-out old tail coat, and putting it on is like getting a good hug. The structure and weight gives the garment such substance and support, like a good pair of shoes. @@JuulThijssen I have only started sewing again after about twenty years, so I am a tad rusty. But it will go on my to do list. I just checked the stockists, they ship to Australia so that's exciting. Thank you 😊
My firat corset miss was on my first ever corset - I look at it now more as a mockup though. I assumed the cup sizes were just that cup sizes - and I made a DD cup int he courset but.... with the measurements I should have had an A cup, because my waist wasn't that dramatically smaller than my bust. I am now on my third corset (literally wearing it right now) and I have now made it longer on the underarms and back, added 4 INCHES to the hip measurement to make is easier to sit (surprising how much fat moves when you sit!) and have the A cup. BUT I think my next one I will make a B cup and remove the width from the back panels so the back sits closer and my bust has a touch more room when sitting.
@@JuulThijssen They really are a whole other beast! But I have started to be really excited about making them and the techniques and getting better each time. Bonjour, ravie de vous retrouver , vous avez réaliser un superbe travail avec un rendu vraiment très réussi ! Merci pour la vidéo !! A bientôt ...
Corsets are such an interesting and different type of garment, aren’t they? It’s cool to see how much you can learn about them with each version 💜
@@JuulThijssen They really are a whole other beast! But I have started to be really excited about making them and the techniques and getting better each time. My current on is very much wearbale - I've worn it every day this week so far, but I just think it would LOOK better with the slight adjustment... then I plan to work on the "couch potato" corset next and get that perfect, haha!
Beautiful! And the correction to the mistake actually made it even prettier. Your figure looks AMAZING in it - well done!
Jul you looked gorgeous in the finished product and you'd never know that it was originally too short!
No fluffy manager today? Was he enjoying the sunshine?
What are you using as the busk in the mockup? It's the most flexible one I've ever seen!
Also, that save looks 🔥🔥🔥
I was surprised myself when I looked back at the footage! But it was just a busk I had in my stash that was given to me at some point.
What a great save you made! Pretty color. TFS.😊 💖
Great Finnish! The fabric is just beautiful. You did such a good job🐨🇦🇺
@ Juul. "Busty corset miss" definitely counts. Go to the top of the list.
You make it all look so easy. Virginia
Really enjoyed your captions on this one! :-). So glad you found your path to a creative solution.
Juul I'm dying at your commentary :'-D and the end result is so stunning, you'd never now this was a "wing it" fix!!
Thank you both for your videos showcasing your skill and for posting a video showing a mistake you made and your solution! The end result is gorgeous! I originally followed you for your hat video but have enjoyed everything you post.
Beautiful craftsmanship love watching you
the fabric is lovely, but it is so much better with the lace. wonderful fix.
I am in love with your scene transitions!
I love the idea with extending the bones on the side. That's such a clever trick! 😊💕
This save was so ingenious! I think it looks perfect!
Gorgeous!!! So beautiful!!! Bravo!!! ♥️♥️♥️
That is beautiful! The fix totally makes it pop!
Gorgeous result! I love how you fixed it, as I have a similar top-heavy problem with most things I make. I think this might have inspired me to try a full corset. Also thank you for the closed captioning, it is so helpful.
That is lovely, and what a fantastic curvy shape it has! I love the lace trimming as well, even if it wasn't part of the original design.
Great save, and gorgeous, just gorgeous!
Great video. Its always nice to see people overcoming mistakes....and that was a fantastic save! xx
Your corset is so lovely! the silhouette is *chefs kiss* ...my only corset story: I bought an off the rack corset and I was trying to do the right thing to break it in, going slowly for short periods of time. well, I guess I went a bit snugger than I should have because I ended up getting light headed and then panicked because I couldn't untie myself. it's now in the back of my closet. maybe one day I'll go back to it, lol.
What a save! Beautiful job.
