- Today, we're discussing how to create an amazing dark fantasy manga, comic or light novel. The dark fantasy genre takes the elements of regular fantasy, and puts it in a more gruesome setting. The characters will likely face more difficult situations, terrifying monsters, traverse challenging terrain, and overcome dire obstacles in order to fulfill their quest. Thanks for the video! I love the fact that you've focused also on the "light" side of dark fantasy. I think it is so underrated, but this is what really made me to fall in love with Berserk
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. To me, dark fantasy is not as powerful if the creator only focuses on darkness. Dark fantasy is about finding those little glimmers of hope in the midst of the dark and gruesome landscape. That is what I enjoy about Berserk also. Even though there is so much darkness within that world, there are still moments of joy and peace that truly stand out in contrast to the dark setting.

Hi! I've been watching your videos for the past few weeks while planning out my own Original Manga/Comic. Your videos and advice are super helpful and there's lots of good tips, will make sure to tune in to the next one.
So, my idea for a dark fantasy, which is also a dark romance:
The main heroine goes on an expedition with her family, sneaking in, to hunt some undead (she's a noblewoman, daughter of a minor but ancient family of undead-hunters). She's tasked with setting up the camp and turning the hardtack they brought into something a bit more edible...However, she accidentally falls into an ancient grave that is connected to the Drow city. She's find by a young monk of Helisa, a drow, who's somewhat of a healer. He's somewhat of a ditz, so he lost a silk-spider, and he's so desperate to have it back that he dares to adventure himself near this. At first, she only sees the spider, and throws it...The young monk runs to save it, and then sees to his horror that a human saw him. So, he lures her in, then they have a scruffle. They are equal in strength, but the pitch-black darkness gives him the upper edge he needs to overpower her. He drags her to the Drow city, and calls an emergency that there is a passage through which humans could notice them, and he brings one with him by tying her arm in a position that if she thrashes or tries to free herself, she'll strangle herself. Soon, they are apprehended by guards, who then decide it'll be up to the monk's hierchy to decide that. That young monk knows he's in a world of trouble. So, not only did he let the superior's of his monastary best spider escape, but he also left the place without permission and almost got their settlement discovered by humans, which is a big no no. It leaves our young spider-catcher absolutely surprised, and he begs his superior to punish him rather to let the secular justice system take care of it. He'll no longer be allowed to eat anything but water, mushroom paste and "rané" (a magical "plant" which blocks endorphines and cause agonizing pain, but is their only stable source of sodium, sugar and vitamin C) for ten years and his upper thighs are flogged to the point they are nearly skinned. Instead of being upset, he thanks his surperior for being so merciful. He's also told that since he's the one who got them into this trouble, he'll be the one studying the human girl, and he'll be checked on by two of his more trustworthy comrads.
Meanwhile, the our main girl is locked up in a cell, to be later studied. So, as the Drow monk studies her over a period of several months, the two form a certain bond, and he gets Lima syndome and falls head over heals for her. However, after a certain point has past, they can't really keep her indefinitly, so they decide that enough is enough, she should stay in the Drow city until her death, with no chances to get out, but they won't be the one to take care of her, and that she'll either be enslaved or adopted by someone else. Now, our monk manages to emotionally blackmail a torturer into adopting her as a daughter. However, that means she'll have to make a vow of chastity, as to not get in the way of the family which so generously took her in. Now, the torturer is rather fond of her rather quickly, his wife does warm up to her, and our main girl does get very protective of their son. But the daughter of the family, not so much and she straight up hates the human girl. Not to mention, the ritual that must take place for the adoption to be legally recognized is painful and humiliating, so the two girls aren't really a fan of the idea. Still, she does have access to decent food, but she gets weaker and sicker from the endorphine blockers she's regularly eating, a diet thouroughly inadapted to a human's caloric requirements and processing ability, the lack of sunlight, her inability to follow her circacian rythm does severely weaken her. Also, trying to seek her ex-captor and now lover, she gets punished quite stringently. However, it eventually gets to a point were she's dying. Once, she was a beautiful plump girl with long, thick locks of hazel and rosy cheeks. After a little bit more than a year underground, she's severely emaciated, her once rosy cheeks are wan and she's nearly bald. She also shows symptoms of rachitism and distrophy from lack of sunlight. Endorphine blockers and repeated infections make breathing difficult. So, understanding she's dying, they let her ignore her chastity vow, and our monk, who's now pretty much infatuated with her, decide to allow her to go to the top of the mountain were their water supply come from. On a night of the full moon, the two lovers reach the spot were they can see the sky. He stays with her for three whole days. It's the time it took for her heart to stop beating. He stays with her, always near her side, refusing any help to get out of that spot, until the frostbites and sunburns become so severe that he too does not have much to live either. Her lasts words to him were: "I want to see the color of your eyes"...He manages to force his eyes to open in the daylight...It nearly blinds him. His last words to her..."If only we could live together."
They would never live together, but they'll be together in death.
Those last lines were very powerful. This love story is very tragic, yet beautifully written. 😭
@@midnightXcross Thanks. It's dark fantasy, since what essencially kills her is being forced to live with the Drow. Also, there is no way for this character to realistically survive as a normal human.

Thank you! I'm happy to hear that. 😊 When it comes to writing this type of manga, it's important for the villain group to have a similar bad purpose. The main bad purpose would likely lead all the bad characters in this purpose, and give them a reason for doing it. For the main good characters in your book, they would likely have been directly affected by this bad group. They may have a strong reason to deal with them, or be involved with them. You also need to consider how this bad group affects the world around them. Maybe because of them being in the town, there may be more crime or conflict, and other characters may feel like they are in danger. As your main character is working towards their goal, this may also cause them to try and stop these bad characters in some way (if they are a good protagonist).
Next, do the video pros and cons of how to make anime and manga and do the video about anime and cartoons stories difference and how to make them properly.

Not that I am familiar with. I have heard of some people using 3D modelling software, such as Blender, and then turning it into images for a manga/comic. However, this would still require 3D modelling knowledge. There are also tools like ComiPo that come with ready made templates which you can use, which you might want to look into. If you are good at writing, you could also try creating a light novel, and then team up with an artist for the illustration component. 😊
If I were you, I would create the characters in Vroid studios. It's free, way easier than traditional 3d modeling and there are a lot of free or paid ways to pose your models later. I'm using it to make anime, but I'm surprised that people don't use Vroid for manga
