My First Edition started popping a couple of weeks after I took delivery. I tried what you suggested. It worked perfectly. I did put heat on the heat shrink. It doesn’t take much heat to activate the wrap. Just quickly pass the heat source by the wrap a couple of times and it will tighten up. Nice job and great idea.
I have a '22 Black Diamond 2-door (Eruption Green as well). Same annoying issue and after watching your video and performing your "fix", problem eliminated! Thanks so much for your effort and content!
Can't believe the fix was this easy, thank you so much, the noise was driving me insane!
Ford and whoever makes the tops need to see this. I can't believe their engineers didn't think of this.
I hear they have. Some things like this just take time to show up and to get a fix for.
Great fix, I will be applying heat. Heat Shrink wraps just need a little of heat/flame. As long as you don't put an open flame directly to the sound deadening material there will be nothing to worry about.
I suffered from the same noise on my MIC. I covered the two nipples on the drivers panel only and it fixed the annoying popping sound. Thanks!
Thanks for making this video. Glad this popped into my feed. We have 2 Broncos. My wife's had been making that exact noise in the middle front. I am going to O'Reilly's today.
Hey there. I just did that quick fix on my first edition bronco. Perfect. Not a squeak or rattle. 3min fix for $5. Why couldn’t Ford figure it out. Lousy customer service. Shame on you Ford. It’s quality control. A customer shouldn’t have do figure out a fix for the squeaking bronco tops.
My take is it’s a new vehicle and we’re gonna have some quirks, but I understand where you’re coming from and I’m glad it worked for you. Keep in mind if you remove the roof panels, you may have to freshen up the heat shrink in the future. 👍
That was a clever solution. Ford should just replace those plastic pins with hard rubber pins. Thanks for the video! You should be a Ford engineer.
Have been battling this for a long time, excited to try this fix.
We have zero issues since. The tubing might have to be replaced after extensive panel removal/replacement
Great idea🎉 thanks for sharing! It is very helpful!!
My eye ball started twitching once I heard the popping sound in your video. I had to keep telling myself that it is fine.😂
“It’s fine” is my new motto in life. Thanks to Steph at North Shore bronco 😎
Great video and great idea! I hope it works long term. My FE started.making the popping sound yesterday at 1675 miles.
Thank you very much for the suggestion! Ours started popping the second day we had it, used your solution, no more popping!
We just hit 1000 miles, now we have a rattle coming from the back somewhere....tailgate or clam shell...not sure which.
Anyone else here or any suggestions?
@@DrivenWildOutdoors No we don't (yet). After I commented, my wife and I went on a drive and figured out that the noise is coming from the seal between the tailgate and the glass. We are thinking about trying some silicone spray lubricant on the rubber seal.
@@jonrodz The popping in the back went away. I'm still not sure what it was exactly....We now have about 9000 miles and have had the top completely off several times and now have a rough country tailgate stiffer to accommodate the weight of the 37's, so that may have something to do with it. I couldn’t find the spray lubricant I felt comfortable with using.
My 2023 built in May started popping and creaking after 500 miles. I'll try this tomorrow as it is driving us crazy . Ford obviously hasn't learned.
21 4dr OBX the right side was popping in cold weather. Sprayed all of the pins with a small amount of silicon spray. Popping is gone 4wks now.
Would love to see a follow up video to this! Just a quick 5 to 7 min video. Has it worked…is it messing with the heat shrink after a few weeks…that kind of thing
so TLDR/W.... slightly increase the pin diameter w/ heat-shrink tubing. The passenger side of my Badlands 4dr does it intermittently but I just 1/4 loosened the locking lever and seems to solved it. I'll probably try this trick too.
Also.... 1. I'm jealous of your shop... and 2. I think it's awesome your kid is involved in the video and maintenance stuff. My kiddo is only 2.5yo and she just floats around the garage while I'm working but hoping she'll at least take a little interest in some stuff at some point.
Cheers
You saved my marriage 😂🤣 thanks for the video!! You’re awesome. SUBSCRIBED!! ✅
Good video I am going to have to try it. That noise is driving me bonkers...
Thanks for the recommendation.
Omgsh I’ve been hearing the click for a week or two been driving me crazy!! All of a sudden I was wondering if it had anything to do w how my dad put it back on
Great fix!! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome, hope it helps. After removing the top a few times we found that installing a new piece of heat shrink was needed.
Thanks for the video!! I did it tonight. Now I just need a solution for the cargo cover… that creaks like crazy. I’m thinking very thin non-dense foam for underneath all the bolts?
@@DrivenWildOutdoors thanks for the reply! Talking about the MIC portion over the cargo area with the fixed glass. It constantly creaks and torques.
@@JW-tc1gy I've had my 2 door since November and the amount or odd noises I'm getting in the same area is absurd.
Thank you for this video. This noise just showed up with winter weather here in Canada. This noise is slowly driving me mad.
I am going to try your fix this weekend. Quick question. What 2 diameters of heat shrink did you use?
TIA
I will have to check and see what size it is, I bought an assorted pack, made by Dorman from O’Reilly auto parts
amazing!
Nice fix! I just turned my music up..... But this probably works better haha.
@@Overlanding4Fun I’ve been planning this for three weeks, between my schedule and the weather I was finally able to fit it in.
I cant wait to pick up my "ordered a long time ago" bronco, so I can try to diagnose issues that should have never been issues on a 60K vehicle. But then again, that is why I ordered the LUX package, so I can turn up the radio and hear the vibration in the speakers that everyone complains about......
The B&o stereo system is great in my opinion. I have no idea why people complain about it. But it’s like everything else what’s good for me might not be good for someone else I guess.
The B&O system is great, great sound but I do have the vibration in one speaker. First service , there will be a laundry list of things for the dealer to fix!
Worked for me. Thanks
TSB 22-2070 solves this issue, which says to apply Krylox Grease (164-R4906) to the latch hook and pin.
I like the camera man's zoom ups lol also would Teflon tape do the trick too? Bc it's not sticky or anything, you just use as much as you need until you get the desired thickness
Thanks, I don’t like The idea of using glue, (as in tape adhesive) it will tend to be just as messy. Also the thickness and the Teflon tape isn’t enough, , it works as a filler. Next to a precise measured/manufactured bushing that could be installed on the roof bracket I think the heat shrink is the next best thing.
So, did you get a gen 1 top? Heard they were supposed to be modifying the first tops to fix that issue.
Nice DIY. Can be fun fixing things.
thanks for posting, finally got rid of the noise the day before I sell the truck to my son! how has it held up? I see most posts are 6 months old.
Thanks for watching! We found it will last quite a while without taking the top off, about every three times you remove the roof panels and put it back on you have to re-sleeve it. However my wife has removed it several times and it’s still there.
the problem was fixed, but it came back with a vengeance after a couple of months 😂
Nice, inexpensive fix 👍. Is that the 2022 MIC that was supposed have the noise problem corrected by Ford?
I have not heard of a fix. There may be one, however This is ours for now.
@@DrivenWildOutdoors By "corrected" I should have stated "replaced" the gen1 hardtops with a complete new one. :)
My bronco sits outside and I haven’t experienced this popping noise until the weather got cold with the low temperature drop.
The top contracts slightly the colder it is and expands slightly when it warms up so that sounds right.
This has been problems since almost day one with the hardtops. I’m surprised Ford hasn’t issued a service bulletin yet.
I have the same popping noise and traced it to one of the brackets that turn 90 degrees to latch. Either the bolt is slightly too long or they forgot the spacer for the bolt as the bracket does have a little play even when the bolt is fully tightened. There is no play in the other 90 degree bracket on the passenger panel. My dealer ordered another bracket so we'll see if that fixes my issue. If not, I'll try your fix and go from there. Thx
I thought the same and got another latch but it still made the noise. This fixed it!
@Bronco Wild Outdoors, what size tubing did you use?
Would think there would be an adjustment on the bracket side of the panel,no?
2 months later -- still working? No issues? Looking to do this but want to make sure there haven't been any other issues with it
Good deal. Worried I was but feel better now. Still haven't got build date on mine. Hey did you get the leather seats that come with power or did you do Marine vinyl and no power. I can still change and add power seats and wondering if I would be bummed with no power. Whats your thoughts
what was the sizing of the tubing
Is there any way to adjust the front two hard top panels? On my badlands, both front panels stick up slightly higher in the back then in front, and the passenger side also sets farther back than the driver's side. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
What would happen if you coated the pin with GE clear silicone caulking?
It would work, I just don’t want all of that sticky stuff collecting dirt
I know a few people that need to watch this...Thanks for the video...@tfloffroad
You have two Broncos? Dag man!
@@DrivenWildOutdoors We are waiting on an EEG Bronc as well. Look forward to looking at more vid’s on your channel.
I love how you crammed two minutes worth of material into an 18 minute format! Sheesh.
Open flame? Isn't that what the wife's hair dryer is for? Some people even go out and buy a heat gun which I've heard has lots of other uses. In all seriousness, this will likely be completed before my Bronco gets license plates.
Hey Ford, how bout just building an actual hardtop that doesn’t come off… eliminates the entire issue, plus then you can build a door with a window frame and eliminate that problem as well.
Ford make several vehicles that the top doesn't come off and the frameless windows are a great feature. I hate the way a Jeep looks with the doors still on and the top off. Reminds me of the people that ride in a convertible car with the windows up ,lol.
a hair dryer next time.
17 minutes later we still don’t know what’s the “perfect size” shrink wrap. I mean, he says “perfect size” a dozen times but never thinks to call out what that size is.
Too much redundant talking and painfully lacking in substance.
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.! 100% elimination of the popping! $4.99 worth of parts and less than 10-minutes labor with only small scissors needed! THANK YOU!
