I work in a stainless steel enclosure fabricator. I'm a machine operator and I operate a cnc laser and press brake. They are pretty amazing with everything they can do!
I find it interesting how many people you go through in your shop. I don't mean that in any nasty way, I think you are a hell of a teacher and a mentor. Really enjoy seeing how you truly care about the outcome for the customer. Well done sir!
cos hes a bodge job look at how mullet turned out the chasis cantr put 7's down
@BlinkyBill_ it has no problems running 7s. The fact Garrett put a 5,000hp capable engine in the car was the problem.
@BlinkyBill_ Mullet was never meant to go that fast when they built it. The back half of mullet is mostly still factory El Camino. Of course it's not built for a 4000hp engine.
@@BlinkyBill_you are dumb...don't speak on things you have no idea about. It's been explained in videos by Garrett, Steve and Kevin and if you haven't understood yet...put your helmet on, get on that small bus and don't lick the windows...
@BlinkyBill_ so he us a bodge job kinda guy yet here you are still watching and commenting on his videos?? Cool, gotcha.
CEE uses a pressure blaster in a similar application, with a flash-rust inhibitor. Good to see you giving the Lizard Skin a try.
I’ve been powder coating at home for over 10 years now, it’s absolutely amazing. Get a small shop set up, you Won’t Regret it!!!
BEEN WAITIN FOR THIS ONE!!!! CONGRATULATIONS ON THE MAKING ACE IN CLEETUS EVENTS..... NOW GET VGG UP THERE.... WITH YOU!!! TEAM DRIVING
That's a sweet color of powder coat. Looks sharp. Kevin, you can always invoke the same rule my grandpa did when he caught my uncle gambling in his shop, the shopowner always wins. "It's my shop, so it's my winnings." Uncle got a major, well-deserved butt chewing for that mess, and all his buddies were mad they lost their cash. Served them right for breaking the law and, above all else, Grandpa's rules. But you're a good guy. It's better to admit defeat when it's all in fun. It's really wonderful how you have a great rapport with everyone in the shop.
I used Lizard Skin on the inside of a Wrangler Tub. Stuff worked awesome. Has a little wear in really used spots since no carpet or floor mats.
Looks awesome. Fresh shiny powdercoat looks the goods. Get well soon Eddie. Happy Birthday CJ
Im surprised Kevin didn't wrap plastic wrap around the bars so the straps don't touch the bars 14:14
Ive powder coated a couple things at home, obviously its a much smaller and cheaper scale, but once the powder is cooled, its very durable. If it wants to scratch with your nail then it wasnt baked correctly. This is also why i bake my parts first to make sure the part comes up to temp and if i have to go a little hotter, i can, just so the part is the heat it needs to be.
Aww snap forgot to mention CONGATS ON WINNING THE STAFORD 900🎉🎉🎉🎉
I know that body tub at the beginning well. I had an awesome Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser for 15 years.
Fuck yeah dude. Great content and thank you for taking the time to share with us. Grateful u still take the time
Love the updates on the Camaro, thanks Kevin
congrats on the win at the 900 that was awesome racing sir way to give her the onions
Looks sweet! Your funny like a little kid that mom slaps the hand of saying stop picking at it.😂
Thanks for the update. I agree the water blasting is the way to go on any metal in that enviroment down there. Have a great weekend Kevin and crew. OMG its going to be a monster. 1 thing i hope Steve does is downgrades it to a 540 crank from the 572. Now i had my fix for the week i wont die lol
Great color choice for the chassis, much better than boring black. If the chassis performs as good as it looks the Morris family will have a killer drag car on their hands.
Wow, kev that powder coat makes your chassis work even more impressive 👏 👌
33:02 kevin? i thought you were a perfectionist for this 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@vladimirpetrov2250 tell me about it!!! I switched to using a MAC for editing and have to figure out how to fix that!! I even tried trimming it on UA-cam!
😂
I'm excited to see this come together!
Like to Eddy's crash video + F1 at Silverstone. Great Stuff Kevin.
Great how you keep it full of fun while so much is going on! Awesome shop and guys. Great builds!! Wish I was in Florida!!
Nice finish. I was expecting a bit more than 5 or 6lbs
KSR FTW
I did a lot of sandblasting as a kid. But sandblasting in Florida in July sounds like more fun!
Wow that laser cutter is super cool. The edges it put on that plate metal is very impressive.
Nice job taking the boys to school at the 900...Never mess with a professional car handler...Have those amateurs go back and watch keeping Socker Mom off the wall...No that is what I call a driver...LOL...They tried to take you out twice...AMATEURS!!!
I am no professional, but I hold my own pretty well ;)
Ya gotta remember..... Powder Coat is a very THICK coating compared to other coatings.
That is why it's so durable.
Great video Kevin, the powder coat looks awesome it highlights what a good job you all did, well done.
LOL walk through the door to the shop FJ40 body.. yeah FJ40 body at a blasting shop makes perfect sense, they all rust to oblivion. You need to get that pickling spray that Kevin Tetz uses and spray any exposed steel to keep it from rusting. Dude.. Lizardskin.. EXPENSIVE but really good. Damn I miss welding and painting.
Stuff is happening, and YES, it is very exciting! I luv it all!
It's awesome to see all the time spent in making a quality race car!😊🏁 Vroom,Vroom!!
I'm in Canada, and I never thought of rust as being a problem, especially in Florida. I suppose that ocean salt would have something to do with it?
Everything looks great. I can't wait to see the car finished and on the track looking new and shinny..😊
Rainy days where you can’t paint are great days to work on a Buick!
Oldsmobile
@@billbushman6686oh I know it is. However, it’s been a long running joke on the channel to call it a Buick. Kevin likes it when you call it a Buick
Congrats on the win
The weight was interesting, Chassis is a work of art, Great Job. Can't to see it done!
Kevin and crew, y'all rock! Peace
9:20 This looks like a time consuming detailing process. The dedication to this work is apparent. (Appreciate folks that put effort at this level).
That chassis looks nice! Looking forward to seeing the body after the lizard skin.
Awesome video Kevin! Val's chassis looks fantastic, such great work you guys do!
The powder coating may be tougher because of the media blasting before coating. Like always I really enjoy the content.
Love that Lizard skin coating. It’s great for heat protection and sound deadening.
Looking forward to final assembly
Interesting to see how powder coat transforms a project.
Absolutely incredible holy crap! That's one hell of a chassis! Has to be such a cool feeling seeing all of your hard work come together.
4 1/2 pounds for the powder coating is pretty good for the protection it does for the metal.
I love your detail keep it up up you rock🤪
Awesome video Kevin and all the guys!
Cannot wait for the cutlass going to powder coating as well
I love to see that you have a lot of work happening. I'm hoping that means you will be around for a good long time. I'm not a racer, but I really enjoy watching your videos and learning all that goes into making these cars. I think the weights of all the parts is really interesting. Being able to save weight simply by changing bolts is something that I had never thought of. Does a saving of a pound or two make that much difference in speed? Keep up the great work.
You should not use fabric to insulate the straps after blasting. It will transfer fibers onto the blast profile. Sometimes it will cause problems, some fibers don't melt and "lay down" at 400 degrees The fibers are grabbed because the surface is rough. We use plastic wrap to insulate the straps from the part after blasting. We also use the plastic wrap after powder coating to keep the straps from scuffing the finish.
Powder coated parts are fully cured and ready to use as soon as they cool down. Phosphate coating stops rust on steel parts without effecting paint, powder, plating, or fab work. The powder coater I use in Seattle dips every steel part in a phosphate tank immediately after blasting.
I did lizardskin sound and heat on my car. It is super simple to apply and It works REALLY well. I can comfortably keep my hand on the floor where my exhaust is directly underneath. Downside is it is soft and will dent if you put stuff on top of it. Also, it will stain if fluids get on it so definitely top coat it with something.
I've been watching the CJRC channel thats building Eagle for cleet. Those guys are meticulous for sure. But I can see in that chassis you are even more so. I know its comparing apples to oranges. But there are a lot of extra touches you do. Nice.
The update is awesome!! Love seeing the process that building a top of the line race car takes and everything that is involved! KSR you really drop some SERIOUS knowledge on this fellar!! Thanks for the content and sharing!!! See you SUNDAY, SUNDAY!! lol
Kevin can't wait till your next video Godbless you
Thanks Kevin. I like simply watching what your building and doing at KSR. Road racing please at some point.
Thanks for the content Kevin!!!
Kevin, powder coat is not paint and does not need to cure, its powdered plastic that melts onto the metal in the oven, you would have trouble blasting it off again just one hour after it came out of the oven, ask me how I know, and powder coat is almost as hard to blast off
as silicone and two-pack paints.
That Lizard Skin is some good stuff... If you were able to scratch off powdercoat, it was some low grade junk. That stuff is pretty tuff.
You can get Powder Coatings with high wax content and it's real slick and durable so it doesn't scratch as easy and it has a 500 hours of salt protection so it could be submerged over a 500 hours in salt before it starts eating the compound
Looks so good. Can't wait to see it start coming together now. Nice work guys!
33.02??? You’re slipping! lol. Great video, as always.
CLEAR COAT on the base color, I do it on the off road stuff, Just a thought
Eddie has got one day flu 😷 😂😂😂 it looks amazing 🤩
Kevin - love the Val Camaro updates. legit question, i'm dumb. why not dip the chassis? cost?
Man, that Lizard skin stuff is fckn incredible.!! You won't believe the sound deadening and insulation it gives to the firewall and in wheel tubs...!!
Great video , and interesting. I would have loved to have seen that chassis in the sunlight. Looking forward to more.
Another really interesting video. Just love watching your work. Rex in NZ.
Seabee logo was cool to see being prior Seabee myself
You made Eddy sweat and now he's sick... it all makes sense now
CF clip on, zip tie or you can get some PPF coating to cover it.
chasis looks awesome.Boone does some fine work.
Great video! That was pretty cool to see. Enjoyed watching ✌️ 😎
Last time I worked at a powder coat shop they took the parts sent em through a washer then got sent through the oven on one side then back to the powder coat station the guys powdered it and it cut back through the oven again from them and baked the coating on and then we unracked em and put em on pallets
33:01, you are a second over! lol
Great video guys! 😎
Kevin I've been Powder Coating since 1997 and I can't tell you how many dragster frames I've powder coated it doesn't take but about 25 minutes to powder coat that frame and less then 45 minutes to cure in the oven unless it's under Cure waxed powder coating then it'll be about 15 minutes
Then you could probably answer this. Wouldn't it be fully ready to go as soon as it cools off? It's not a paint full of solvent or an epoxy or anything, it shouldn't need to cure or dry.
@@wingracer1614 Yep. Put it straight to work as soon as it’s cooled enough to handle. Done it countless times.
@@wingracer1614yes sir as soon as it cools down enough to touch you could do whatever you need to in a scratch resistant up to a certain extent is more durable than a liquid paint job
Man it's look so good
This video moved right along and was very interesting. I was wondering, does the rust inhibitor in the water, mixed with the glass beads, have any effect on the binding of the power coat to the chassis?
I loved building these type of chassis. we always got told. "ïts sad to put the body on, as they look to good" I need to get back into it before i go.
Awesome stuff Kevin!
Powder coating chips for 2 reasons, undercured or too thick. Unlike paint, powder needs to be in the 4 -6 mil range for a single coat and 5-10 for a base and clear or a zinc rich primer and color. Hit an inconspicuous spot with another piece of tube and see if it chips. I guess that is what you have to deal with up there, but that much dirt on the floor in front of and in the oven would have me running.
Depending on powder manufacturer the cure can be 340-425 for 10 or 15 mins. That is 10 mins after the metal has all reached the temp specified. You can verify the metal temp with a point and shoot heat gun
Steel parts are a big pain because of rust, especially with no pretreatment wash, If a chassis is rust free it needs to get shot right away, deliver it to the coater, wipe it down and put in the oven to take the moisture out, and shot while it is still warm, not hot. Some projects destined for PC can be wiped with Ospho while being built to keep from rusting. Or WD if the facility has a wash and pretreatment line.
You can shoot hot and sometimes you have to for a rework, as the electrostatic is no longer viable unless the powder is conductive. Shooting hot there is no longer control over powder thickness because you are actually melting the powder instead of electrostatic.
Some substrates need to be shot while hot as they are not conductive, like glass, ceramic like toilets, MDF board, Marble, and cast aluminum and used aluminum with corrosion because it outgasses leaving little volcanoes.
Failed coatings on steel can be traced back to the lack of or improper prep and handling, like handling steel with bare hands, the fingerprints and palm prints will eventually rust under the PC.
Great info!
Great content thanks for sharing
Is the airplane thingy Kermit Weeks project ? Fantasy of Flight!
Powder coat looks great and is durable but how to you crack check or make modifications? I know I'm old but learned way back when to just use cheap lacquer or whatever you could remove easily, do whatever and re-apply just enough to avoid corrosion.
Those darn glass beads. Just like beach sand. It gets into all the uncomfortable crevasses!
My old job 25 years ago grit blaster
Happy birthday CJ
It looks good
Gainesville is a cool place I'm in the largest city in the lower 48. Let us know before you head to The Firm so I can go down and watch and maybe meet up with you
😂😂😂😂 😂 Eddie you gotta love the dude😂😂😂😂😂
Eddie to KSR is like Squirrel is to Cleetus and Cars. Gotta have them. Keeps the content light and happy.
Spotto 40 series landcruiser tub and nose cone im a big cruiser fan i own a 105 series and my dad had a brand new 60 series and a brand new 80 series
That frame work is anything but beautiful. Rugged? Structural? Kinda frikin awsome? Yea, all of that. Now get it powdered !
OooooOh, somebody’s in trouble you scratched the fresh paint job😂😂😂😂😂😂 love the videos man keep up the good work would be pretty cool to see a dino video once in a while
Next most satisfying thing to KSR content is the even minute timing of the videos.
Gotta change Eddie's contact name to Buick Guy 😂😂😂😂
laser cut parts cut down on prem by like 100% no banging or grinding plasma slag we have a water jet and it goes threw 1/2 steel cleanly but the sand is a pain in the ass
The morris clear is getting crazier
Thank you for the video. Will check out your buddies at the beginning of the videos stuff.
Kevin's into so long he is tuning on ruby in it 😮 (do like it keep it familiar)
Who doesn't like lasers. freaking lasers dude.🤣🤣
