Never really listened to kokane and cold 187um BUT after this interview I'm ready to dive into their music..on that note does anyone know what album would be a good album to start on?
My suggestion would be Time Will Reveal by Above the Law. Hutch and team are at their peak on that album. Totally encompasses the sound he is talking about in this interview in my opinion. Took the West Coast sound to a new level.

The real will always understand that Hutch and ATL along with Kokane are the originators. Somehow, G Funk got associated with whiny synth sounds and talk box vocals. But like Hutch said, the real G Funk sound is much darker and murkier and deeper than just taking a Parliment sample. All of the ATL albums are classics and put that rattle in the trunk.
