This was the 1st episode I fully saw back in the summer of 89 at the tender age of 12, and I totally fell in love with this show here. I was on a family holiday up north and saw it on Granada. It was also the last time I saw my grandad as he passed away a few months later( funnily enough listening to Judas Priest beyond the realms of death as I write this, which deals with old age and death etc). Saw it again on Anglia at home a few weeks later. Gives me chills watching this, reminding me of my childhood. Thanks for the memories Prisoner x
When the camera went to Erica I thought they were going to do inner monologues of the staff. I could imagine Erica smiling and thinking, 'No one knows I just broke wind,' or something silly like that.
+Heather Snodgrass Lol. So did I. Thought we were going to have Erica's thoughts then Vera's 'Oh why can't I find someone to marry me? All I get is drug dealing George Lucas and good two shoes Meg with her stupid lego hair gets ALL the men?' Then Jim, 'Cor, wish that was me and Jackie Nolan or Caroliine Simpson, anyone but Leilia'.
That was a fabulous episode and one of my all time favourites. Meg looked really nice at the wedding, Bob is very lucky and I hope he realises it. Good work by Helen in getting everything organised outside so efficiently. I remember when I first watched the escape as a kid many years ago, I was sitting there in suspense with my heart beating rapidly in case one of them got spotted going down the hole. Sounds silly now but back then it seemed more important than just TV drama to me.
It was in the script for the pantomime, probably didn't even think about it. Then again, some of the orphans could be brothers and sisters...and it would apply if they ever got adopted.
I thought that. If you look closely the bloke who is playing the piano obviously donated his wig to medical science because Donald Trump is now wearing it !!
Presumably the parents were told to ignore the rifles trained on the area their kids were being funnelled into. ps - loved Lizzie's telegram. Can't beat a good double entendre.
So true, I just went to Oktober fest a few weeks ago. They look so adorable in their German attire. BTW they don't just serve beer but also different types of yummy sausages, kraut and shnitzels. 2 weeks of bliss. You did have so 'heavy' duty types of 'mouses' too lololol. I recommend going if you never been, fantastic!
This is the episode of Hazel Kent's coming out from being a background player. I loved how she hopped off the stage and interacted with the kids. You can tell they were having a blast & how much Hazel loves children. I've always found Belinda Davey pretty. And, she really delivers many truly heartbreaking memorable performances throughout her fun on the show. Hazel is one character i would have loved to see having her happy ending.
Doreen and Lizzie want to be on the outside when they're inside, and then inside when they're on the outside. They are the 2 most messed up characters, I don't know whether to laugh or be frustrated by them. I feel sorry for Ann, she shouldn't be in jail, she should be in the loony bin. At least then she'd have professionals who know how to help her.
Well anyone who get's themselves put inside on purpose is a mess. And why was Judy in so long for a few drugs? Others murdered people and got out quicker.
Steve Perrin Fair enough, but she was in way too long for such minor crime. Even Erica said, "You were charged with a relatively minor crime and I know you were not a criminal when you came in here." But that's TV for you eh?
R.I.P. Irene Nagel. I'm surprised they didn't give her character a more sympathetic send-off, perhaps using a montage of greatest moments - like the bit in episode 127, where she says: "Ah yeah!" to Margo, or the part in this episode where she says: "Yeah?" to Bea, or...er....oh. ...Sorry guys, my bad. 🤭
The lovely piano music at 14:05 when Vera is driving Meg to Meg's wedding is the same music back in episode 110 when Pat is in court at 22:23. Every time I hear it, it reminds me of the into to the A Country Practice theme
You have to admire a drama that has the courage to include a prison breakout where one of the escapees is dressed as a fairy godmother and another is carrying her teddy bear. It's one reason I'm such a huge fan. A lot of the time this show just didn't give a tinker's cuss about being "realistic". Anyway, reality's overrated.
At 17:00, watching Lizzie fiddle around through the officers' lockers, hilarious that "Dizzie Bloody" Gillespie, with his obsession for security, hasn't mandated that combination locks be attached to the locker door handles.
Not with that hat, and is that a halloween mask she's wearing or is it her usual scary face. I think she split a few more stitches at the sides of her mouth from smiling. Lol
pianist tis a funny looking woman lol. erica was sayin to gillespie earlier that it was the woman who played for the church sermons n had nothing harder than a cup of tea! FANTASTIC episode... i soooo love the panto... n more excitement comin up :) love it!!! xxx
I loved this episode! It was much better than I remembered it. I loved the pantomime and the tunnel escape. I can't remember what happens next, so it'll be great to see the next few episodes!
Meg gets a loads of extra leaving presents (she got the bedding set as a wedding present) then dor and Lizzie gave her an extra gift plus the book Lizzie gave her at the end and she takes back her resignation and is no longer leaving haven't even heard her offer to give back those extra presents especially when the women have so little 😂🤦🙊🙊
What a great episode! I loved their rendition of Cinderella. Also loved Meg's wedding, although could've done with out seeing Tracy again. And the breakout! Loved seeing Mouse dressed ad a mouse jumping down a drain.
Maybe Vera is like Fiona Spence’s other character Celia Stewart in Home & Away, where she only drives for special occasions and any other time she takes the bus. 😄
I liked Bryant in these early episodes. She was far too clever for the rest of the women, she was cunning and devious, even though she befriended Doreen ect she would have dropped them like a hot potato to further her own ends. Pity the character developed into a fat whingeing lump and I wish Dr Kate Petersen had succeeded in strangling Bryant
What happened to the old lady that was meant to be playing the piano Erika said she was old and played during the Sunday services it's now a 50/60 year old man!
well, meg seems happy with her new husband but i cant help but see the shadowy figure of the gim reaper behind him as this escape plan takes shape. Loving prisoner so far.
This cliffhanger is slightly different to the end of Series 1, which was either Karen getting shot or Erica getting shot, depending on where you think it ended.

Did Granada show all 692 episodes? I know Central did.
Anglia screened this 13 days after Granada.
@@ajs41 They did. Granada aired this episode on Monday 14 August 1989.
your grandad died whilst listening to Judas Priest?
@@stevenmcghee6649No. She was listdning tothem whilst typing her comment.

Heather Snodgrass Megs inner monologue should have been " I love you Bob but we're so short staffed"
These comments 😂😂
... Meg & Bob simpering over each other. Enough to bring on a bile attack!
This was the final episode of the 1980 season. It was televised in November and original viewers had to wait until February to see what happened next.
Brutal!
I remember. I was one of them.
Now, because of streaming, a lot of shows get binged in a day and then you have to wait a year or two for me 😂
Why didn’t they just watch them on UA-cam instead? 😂
@@sb6678😂😂😂

I love how Vera revs the motor when the car stops lol
I bet Fiona Spence drives like a maniac! LOL
😂 I thought Vera couldn't drive up to this point also hope she's insured to drive Erica's Triumph? 😉😅
that was awesome! meg, vera and erica in that little yellow aussie sedan with those big lady hats! what a scene !!!! love this show.
I would have loved to have been in the car with em😍
It is a Triumph,British car but built in Australia in the 70's.
That's Davo's car and is a Triumph Dolomite. At least that's what that model was called in the UK.
Oh Margo... Things not to say to Orphans- "Always be good and love one another, your father, your mother, your sister, your brother."
It was in the script for the pantomime, probably didn't even think about it. Then again, some of the orphans could be brothers and sisters...and it would apply if they ever got adopted.
Didn't Davo tell Dizzie Gillespie that the pianist was a woman? (who had been coming to Wentworth forever for church services etc.?)
I thought that. If you look closely the bloke who is playing the piano obviously donated his wig to medical science because Donald Trump is now wearing it !!
Yes, definitely.
Yep she sure did 😂😂😂
Yeah, Mrs Hammond from the church. 😂
Erica Davidson looks a lot like the American actress Lee Remick
Erica reminds me of Glyadis Cooper from Now Voyager.
Gillespie: I dont want Wenthworth to turn into a Mardi Gras !
Lizzie opens the veil and says: Marty Who ?
Haha
The writers and production got much better in season two.... since the show became a worldwide hit they had more money to spend.... love it
Presumably the parents were told to ignore the rifles trained on the area their kids were being funnelled into. ps - loved Lizzie's telegram. Can't beat a good double entendre.
Interesting hearing Bob and Meg's internal thoughts at the wedding. Prisoner rarely did that.
It would have been funny if Fletch, Vera and Erica would have had internal thoughts during the wedding also.
The church is so dark, like a funeral, instead of a wedding. A life time of Darlings😢.
I thought the same thing
Why does Lizzie never think and always mess things up
ALWAYS
Gillespie looks like the inspector off the show " On the buses " .
Blakey ohh I ate you gillespie!!!
Omg thank you! It’s been driving me mad trying to work out who he reminded me of!
Lizzie and Dor are Stan and Jack!😅
Is it just me or is there absolutely not an ounce of chemistry between Meg & Bob?
That's bc he looks like a Walrus and she looks like Oliver Twist.
Mouse is adorable :o)
She is, she reminds me of a German beer waitress.
So true, I just went to Oktober fest a few weeks ago. They look so adorable in their German attire. I love her little trotting walk, so adorable.
that telegram was HILARIOUS 🤣
It was brilliant

WELL I'm frustrated with them
And Judy... SMH
Well anyone who get's themselves put inside on purpose is a mess. And why was Judy in so long for a few drugs? Others murdered people and got out quicker.
markxxx21 She escaped while on her original time, so got longer.
Steve Perrin Fair enough, but she was in way too long for such minor crime. Even Erica said, "You were charged with a relatively minor crime and I know you were not a criminal when you came in here." But that's TV for you eh?
9:00 why is Vera wearing a bowler hat?
I love Helen! Makes me laugh...
I remember this storyline from when I saw these on tv years ago - classic !
45:35 "Deadly Enemy" by John Scott plays here (albeit sped up, likely due to copyright).
man I hope when I get married I'll have more than just people I work with at my wedding lol
I wonder why so many screws were allowed to go to Megs wedding. Don't they know how short staffed they are?
burbercat - ha ha ha 😂 😆 😝 lol too funny!
Of course there will be - we will all be turning up.
I thought the same thing. Doesn't Bob have any friends or family?
They're always banging on about Vera having no friends, but it doesn't seem that any of them do.
Tracy kissing her dad on the lips--no. Just, no. **heaves**
I know it was cringe.
Yuk!!!!!
Aw Meg looks really nice.
The hat Vera's wearing looks like the same one that McNally woman was wearing.
Good one Margo, telling a bunch of orphans to respect their "Mothers and Father's" why not just kick them when you leave
lol, that one slipped right past me. I didn't even put that together.
I think they did kick them as they left too
Vera probably kicked the kids
@@lamontbradford4630 Vera probably said to them, "you're animals!"
After taking away their candy and toys.....lol
Bea letting the balloon squeak as Gillespie walks away, hilarious😂😂😂😂😂
Davo said in an earlier episode to Gillespie that the pianist eas a mrs somebody !
Hoorah! Finally figured out how to comment!
Have been loving watching these episodes.......
Vera's attempt at Meg's makeup lol
wow Margo looked like Princess Di for a second at the end of the performance ...shes really a pretty woman in makeup
i don't see gillespee with an ID on him!!
Not even a visitor one
R.I.P. Irene Nagel. 28:55.......Helen looks like Paul Kantner from Jefferson Airplane.
Lizzie a trustie now I've heard it all 😂😂😂😂
Nice helmet erh hat Vera!
Why did she wear a old widows hat to a wedding, she must of thought people would die laughing if meg got ditched at last minute.
The lovely piano music at 14:05 when Vera is driving Meg to Meg's wedding is the same music back in episode 110 when Pat is in court at 22:23. Every time I hear it, it reminds me of the into to the A Country Practice theme

Vera an look very nice when she's all dressed up, she could get a bloke easily.
liquidsweep I also love Vera in her uniform and hair bunned up.
Makes you wonder whether most women would be ugly if they tied their hair back.
Not with that hat, and is that a halloween mask she's wearing or is it her usual scary face. I think she split a few more stitches at the sides of her mouth from smiling. Lol
p s. yeah a bloke with a guide dog. He'd have to be to want someone, to help them cross the street. I wonder what type of breed vera is???
Vera doesn't like blokes, she prefers lips, hips and fingertips.
Bloody fantastic episode
I kept feeling like someone was going to shoot-up the wedding at any moment. lol
When Doreen is playing Cinderella she sounds like an Australian Marilyn Monroe.
pianist tis a funny looking woman lol. erica was sayin to gillespie earlier that it was the woman who played for the church sermons n had nothing harder than a cup of tea! FANTASTIC episode... i soooo love the panto... n more excitement comin up :) love it!!! xxx
Good ep. Mouse looked almost cute...and then there's Doreen, arsing everything up as per!
Thank you who ever these up, loving them.
Daddy kissing Tracey smack on the lips was a bit eww-making.
Not as bad as Judy saying that when she gets out she's heading straight for the "Bush" !!!!!
Tracy and her dad have had a creepy relationship from the start
they didnt kiss on the lips i paused it and its on cheeks but it looks lke lips
Is that unusual as far as you're concerned? It's normal in many places.
exactly
@ 32:24 - I was scared for that poor pooch. He looked like he was about to be flattened under that tire.
I had this episode on VHS for years!
I still do lol
Why didn't the man on the roof see the tunnel hole in the ground near the tent??
Bea n Judy, Just act natural. Lol. Fan-bloody-tastic.
Every time Lizzie doing something shifty at 16:45 in this episode, the same background trumpeting music plays lol
Anne is absolutely loopy but so pretty. Fantastic end to the 1980 season.
I loved this episode! It was much better than I remembered it. I loved the pantomime and the tunnel escape. I can't remember what happens next, so it'll be great to see the next few episodes!
I could never understand how the Prisoner writers didn't know the difference between concentration camps and prisoner of war camps.
Meg gets a loads of extra leaving presents (she got the bedding set as a wedding present) then dor and Lizzie gave her an extra gift plus the book Lizzie gave her at the end and she takes back her resignation and is no longer leaving haven't even heard her offer to give back those extra presents especially when the women have so little 😂🤦🙊🙊
21:50 Is it just me or Does this Photographer looks like the young Anthony field from the wiggles?
Those wedding photos were absolute crap- 'abysmal' springs to mind, haha.
What a great episode! I loved their rendition of Cinderella. Also loved Meg's wedding, although could've done with out seeing Tracy again. And the breakout! Loved seeing Mouse dressed ad a mouse jumping down a drain.
The wedding was funny- the voiceovers, the snapshots. Prisoner outdid itself
@ 41:53 - Lizzie f***s up everything! Ffs.
Geez that church was awful dark for a wedding...
22:07 Jim and Bob are stroking their moustaches!
So was Judy !!!
Gold
Vera driving? So why does she get the bus everywhere else?
Maybe Vera is like Fiona Spence’s other character Celia Stewart in Home & Away, where she only drives for special occasions and any other time she takes the bus. 😄
That marquee is huge lol
But this had to be one of the shows best episodes
Ꭿmanda Jonεs defo one of my favourite episodes, sticks in my mind from watching as a kid!!
Episode 326 was even better
You can see the studio mic at exactly 24:00 top left corner of screen lol
Yeah. funny I never saw anyone post about it before. this is like the fifth episode I saw the microphone peeking down.
Love the surprise appearance from Lassie. Pity Helen wasn't so excited.
14:23 - its the same church where Scott & Charlene from got married - also Madge & Harold from Neighbours got married.
It’s where Ben Fulbright and Pippa Reynolds get married as well in future seasons of the programme.
Mouse is quite pretty really if she wasn't so silly and vague Helen has certainly earnt her $500 she hasn't stopped!!!! 🤣 🤣
Maybe she's a dead mouse in that horrify last scene....
That voice over bit was beyond cringy! 😂😂
Blimey! I think Vera was Ronald McDonald's make-up artist!😚
What happened to the old lady that was meant to be playing the piano Erika said she was old and played during the Sunday services it's now a 50/60 year old man!
why do they always include Doreen in escapes for petes sake??????
Great show
All those rifles in the hands of guards who hate Gillespie 😢.
How come Gillespie doesn't have an I.D Badge but insists all other employees have one? Haha.
On my 7th time watching show and just realised that dodgy daddy daughter kiss at 21:54, must have forgotten they were meant to be dad and daughter,
well, meg seems happy with her new husband but i cant help but see the shadowy figure of the gim reaper behind him as this escape plan takes shape. Loving prisoner so far.
That galesby is one miserable trought
I must be weid. I'm enjoying the play😂
I have never understood why Ilene or whatever her name is, grabs the support column and pulls it on top of her in the tunnel. What was the plan there?
How can Lizzie be a trustee she nicks anything that's not screwed down
Vera’s hat 😂😂😂the Gestapo.
One of my fav, eps.
I didn't think of that - typical statement when things start going wrong lol
Why do all the women in the pantomime sound like Ross gellar’s Holiday Armadillo in an episode of friends? Lol
This cliffhanger is slightly different to the end of Series 1, which was either Karen getting shot or Erica getting shot, depending on where you think it ended.
Gillespie is a male version of Vera
even Vera is not that bad
I think a male version of the freak would be more apt
I thought Vera couldn’t drive?
I would never trust lizzy OR doreen with secrets, because they can never keep their BIG TRAPS SHUT!!!!
I am really losing my patience with Doreen.. like seriously!!
SHE haven't learnt her lesson yet!..
Nope, and you're not the only one. It must've been tough for the writers to come up with a story that would keep Doreen inside for a long time.
