    I just did this job and I want to start by saying this is a fantastic "how-to". Lots of great information here, and seeing everything before touching it all is great as well, I do have a few things to add though.
    1. The gas pedal is MUCH easier to get to with the steering column plastics off and the steering wheel off. Those piece being off gives a huge access hole to the gas pedal, I believe this to be easier than changing the stalk alone.
    2. The airbag has to come off first, there are four nuts on the back of the steering wheel to free the airbag, then there is the center nut on the steering shaft. MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE YOU MESS WITH THE AIRBAG. There is a danger of setting off the airbag while disconnecting everything. Once the bag is off and the center nut is off, there are 3 small screws around the outside of the clockspring assembly. Then it just slides off. While the steering wheel is off, go ahead and do the gas pedal then, its fairly easy at this point.
    3. CHECK YOUR UPPER CLUTCH SWITCH. I spent an hour or two trying to diagnose cruise not working, I checked for power, I actuated switches, everything. Mazda used different switches for cruise control, and the clutch safety start switch. So, even though your car starts, the cruise related clutch switch may still be wrong. I found the plunger in mine to be gone. No button in the pedal either, I unplugged it to test and the cruise worked fine. Check the easy stuff first.
    Once more, great how-to. Well done. Hope my comments helps add value to it.

      Hi, my cruise control not working after wiring modification including jumper "the white clutch safety switch". Is you mentioned "UPPER CLUTCH SWITCH" is white colored switch with large current wire?

    Thanks very much for this video. Very informative. I've owned my Miata for over 10 years and as much as I love it, multi-hour highway drives can be brutal. I recently bought a second Miata with factory cruise and HAD to have it on my original. Took less than an hour and a half to do the install and it works great. Thanks for taking the time to do such a thorough job.

    You've got me wondering now about how I can get Cruise Control installed in my 96 with a FM2 turbo kit. I'm sure I can find somewhere to stick actuator since the air filter lives there now.

    Great video! Hopefully it helped me solve my issue! Mine did have cruise control from the factory but it no longer works. I'm thinking the computer asw well. My light on the switch stays on but cruise just doesn't engage. I checked all connectors and they are all plugged in no obvious shorts. I'm thinking either the computer is shot or the servo is shot. Vacuum line is fine no cracks at all

    Well done, this is a really good idea if you don't have it. Don't let the weight loss nannies tell you that you don't need cruise, or AC, or seats, or a hood/trunk. If you actually drive the car, having a feature like cruise is nice. Mine has cruise but no ABS, which is kind of a bummer. What other fun projects are you doing with the car?

    • @JustinDepew

    • @nickelndiminit5136
      @nickelndiminit5136 9 років тому

      +Justin Depew I am planning to do a rollbar too, but setup for time lapse that doesn't have a terrible angle adds like 40% more work. I don't think most viewers realize you probably shot this over parts of ~3 days and it took maybe ~4 hours to edit and another ~1 hr to render before uploading. That's how a single video takes up a whole week, lol. You do a really good job explaining though! My custom center console is into the 3rd month here soon, probably a 10 min video when I am done.

    The only question I have is the cruise control switch ( LAO1 ) that is mounted on the clutch pedal that goes to the ECU
    is there a reason you did not mention it

    So I'm having a problem with my factory cruise control. It works but I'm having a issue where when I'm on cruise control and I turn the running lights on or headlights on the cruise control turns off. Could this be a computer issue?

    • @JustinDepew

      Old comment but I was just prepping to install CC and saw this. It's for the annoying door buzzer that sounds when the door is open with the keys in the ignition (I believe it was only on 94-97 NA2s, could be wrong). If you pull that harness, it silences the buzzing noise.
