- It was freezing cold those days in the mountain. After a lot of trouble installing the snow chains on the wheels they broke and cut the oil pipes on front wheel brake ... then all of the sudden they lost the front drive on the old Land Rover Defender (front half-shaft broke). It was not possible to climb back to the road and try to return the main road. There is no mobile phone signal available in the area so they couldn't contact for any help. The snow continued falling on so they had to decide to return and leave the truck in the mountain.

For a long time I have been tempted to return to nature, the mountains of Velebit, a place that has been part of my life since I was a child and for some time didn't have the opportunity to visit. On the 13th of November, 2017, despite the bad weather I decided to start the journey that has been planned since long ago. I was honored with the company of my good friend Novak who couldn't wait to see something I extolled so much. We were enjoying during the trip, I, excited to go back there again, and him, awaiting something not yet experienced. Everything was as we planed, we got to the mountaineering shelter with the intent of resting and staying overnight so we could admire that unique place and whole the area the next day in full glory. We did not have any specific intentions for the next day but since it snowed whole night long we woke up early to be prepared for anything that could possibly change our plan. Sadly one wrong turn and the inability to u-turn without entering into the deep snow with my trusty Land Rover led us to exhausting day of effort trying to get it out. Unfortunately in that process the front right half shaft of my truck broke so we had to continue our trip on foot, leaving the car with the intent to go back and get it out when the weather calms down. All in all, this is the adventure which I will never forget and would not have changed it even if I could. As far as Land Rover, it came home with its own strength a week later. At the moment it is repaired completely and ready for the next adventure.

HRVATSKI PRIJEVOD: Već dulje vrijeme žudio sam za povratkom u prirodu ... točnije u Velebit,mjesto koje je od mog djetinjstva bilo gotovo dio mene a dugo ga nisam imao prilike posjetiti. Na dan 13.11.2017 usprkos lošem vremenu odlučio sam otići na taj put koji je predugo bio odgađan. Bio sam počašćen sa društvom mog dobrog prijatelja Novaka koji je jedva dočekao da vidi ono o čemu sam mu do sada samo mogao pričati. Uživali smo u putovanju, ja uzbuđen sto se vraćam tamo a on iščekujuci nešto još ne doživljeno. Sve je bilo uredu,došli smo do planinarskog skloništa s namjerom da prespavamo i onda u rano jutro nastavimo uživati u tom zaista posebnom mjestu. Nismo imali neki poseban plan ali kako je cijele noći padao snijeg pomalo zabrinuti, rano smo se probudili te krenuli dalje. Nažalost jedno krivo skretanje i nemogućnost povratka bez ulaska s autom u dubok snijeg dovelo nas do cijelo dnevnog izvlačenja auta iz snijega. Nažalost u tom procesu pukla je prednja polu-osovina mog Land Rover-a te smo na kraju morali odlučiti o povratku i krenuti pješice, ostavivši auto s namjerom da se vratimo po njega kad se vrijeme smiri te da se javimo svojima što nismo bili u mogućnosti dva dana. Sve u svemu ,to je doživljaj koji nikad neću zaboraviti i nikad ga ne bi mijenjao ... a što se tiče auta, ipak je stigao doma svojom snagom tjedan dana kasnije te je brzo složen kako bi bio spreman za sljedeću avanturu. Beautiful country! The Land Rover making fresh tracks on the snow was brilliant. The important moral to this story: Even with a Land Rover you must be prepared and able to continue the journey without its help which you guys were able to do. :-)
Guys are definitely aware of this and were prepared.
What remained is to help and save the old car not to stay in the snow for several months until spring. It has served through all kind of difficulties for a long time. Thank you.

"Magnificent" is not enough to describe that wild mountain, indeed. The landscape is amazing especially in winter. Despite the risk and whole lot of troubles boys have passed through, that adventure is something special to be remembered for the whole life. This is just what the author wrote.

Fabulous drive through the forest Pavle and a real soothing difference getting the fire and warm drinks on the go. Beautiful time but it can all change if unprepared. Good going. Mark
As far as I know they were prepared well enough but perhaps couldn't wait another chance to start the trip. Tin wrote that in his own description. Mine was to let them go and trust them. The truth is that Land Rover got tired somehow after serving us for more than twenty years through all kinds of troubles ... all what was needed is a bit more luck, I would say. All in all it will remain as nice story to be told to their friends and future families. It was quite nice experience, indeed. I enjoyed myself those winter shots and the way they filmed them..

Well, everything has a shelf life. Fabulous outing though...we love the snow don't we? It's that muffled ultra sound. A pleasure to comment. Peace!
This is why I quit going out into the wild with my brother in law,,we always ended up walking or digging our way out! Some beautiful surroundings for the young men, good spirits and well prepared made this and adventure instead of an ordeal. THANKS FOR SHARING>
Very glad you visited my channel again. Somehow these truck troubles changed the plans but it is all sorted out and now the truck is ready for another new adventures as I hope. Meanwhile, I plan to edit and upload some new-old stuff because winter makes us all keep beside the fire in the warm stove ...
as soon as the chance appears I'll visit the mountains perhaps with my son, soon.

Such the weather will last long. Storms, blizzard and deep snow. It is brutal somehow, what makes one to respect the mountain as it really deserves. Imagine what the troubles the wildlife has to pass through to survive?

The truth is that it was cold enough in Zagreb, already and the forecast wasn't promising at all but seems like they needed that adventure and decided to go for it. Who could stop them? The mountain is far from home and seems even further if one travels in wintertime. Besides there's no signal to get in touch by phone.
This is the way they have chosen and offered us their unique experience.
We have to thank them for sharing it.

Drugi put s ladom nivom u planinu....ta nebu ostala gore haha...
E Miro, ima i u tome nešto ...
sjećam se lovnika koji je vozio novu Ladu i po tvrdom snijegu je onakva lagana negdje imala i prednost a ja sam tada imao stari kratki Land Rover (1972) sa 470 000 km sa volanom u mojim rukama. Jednom sam se zimi njime uspinjao s mora i stao na mjestu gdje sam po iskustvu znao koliko može najviše napadati snijeg a da se odatle mogu vratiti. Dugo sam slagao stvari u ruksak najeo se i krenuo gotovo pred sumrak da na noć stignem u sklonište. Odmah nakon prvog grebena ugledam Nivu koja "visi" na rubu provalije. Unutra je sjedio moj lovnik "zaleđen" i blijed ... nije mogao van auta jer bi morao skočiti u par metara duboke stijene a i otpustiti kočnicu na kojoj je stajao i tako otkočiti auto da se surva natraške u provaliju. Na pitanja nije mi ni odgovarao zbog šoka pa sam sam počeo spašavanje lagane Nive ... zbog koje se i doveo u tu situaciju. Nakopao sam se snijega , napravio prolaz da dođem uz njega ispred da bi ga zakačio ... riskirao da i ja ne odem nizbrdo ako me povuče. Počela je i kiša na sav taj snijeg i već po tami izvukao sam i auto i njega , koji nije mogao niti pokušati izaći preko suvozačkog sjedala na cestu. Lovnik ... koji me zbog mojih stavova suprotnih njegovima nije baš rado imao ... spašen je zahvaljujući meni i mom starom autu. Gotovo da smo postali prijatelji uz njegovo crno vino (sa otoka kako je rekao). Obojica smo pješice krenuli prema onom velebitskom prijevoju još nekih sat hoda po snijegu ... još sam ga čekao jer je od doživljenog šoka i malo vina na promzlo tijelo, zaboravio uzeti pušku pa se vraćao do Nive ...
... takva iskustva zbliže ljude i stavove no ipak nije me prepoznao nakon puno godina kad sam ga slučajno sreo a možda se samo pretvarao ...
