Actually the tune is by Johann Schop 1642 “Wach auf, mein Geist, erhebe dich” - Bach used (and popularised and orchestrated) the tune but didn't create it.
This is a bloody stunning performance appreciated all these years later. It aged amazingly. Incredibly tight playing by every musician firing on all cylinders. The arrangement - from rock heaven. Amen.
I bought this seahorse toy for my newborn son and just knew this weird melody had to be Bach Beethoven and that it could be turned into metal. Wife called me crazy!!!!
I don't think Bach, especially someone who is a rebel as much as he was, would be against this. If he was able to see these people playing 'strange' instruments and his music piece, he'd be absolutely intrigued!
Nobody would remember this if Bach hadn't arranged the obscure Lutheran chorale (hymn) 'Jesu Bleibet meine Freude.' Bach had the finest technology of his own time (the church organ) to make the finest music of any time.
