I have three Cubs I built one last winter, one the winter before, and boss gave me one... all three need to be covered, the last cub is huge, maybe 1/4 scale my boss had it for 20+ years, needs to be re-glued, repaired & re-covered
Thank you for the refresher. So far it is review for me, but the silk will be new info. My question may be a bit unfair just because thew problem occurred so long ago I can't remember any details. I used baby powder on a balsa fuselage. I might have put on silkspan, too. Put on the base color. I wish I could remember what tape I used to mask, but it was likely blue painters tape. When I removed it I also peeled off my base coat. Should I have put on a couple of coats of clear before the first color? This would have been with SIG butyrate dope. Thanks ahead of time for any comment.
In the past, when I had to use masking tape from the hardware store, I would press the tape to my jeans to remove some of the stickiness. After masking I would take a small paint brush and some clear dope and seal the edge of the tape. I would remove the masking tape as soon as possible.
Shop looks awesome Frank
Awesome Frank
Thanks for the tutorial!
Frank,is that Brodak
or Randolph dope?? What weight (mommie) is the silk? Pronounced hab a toy. I get mine from Dharma trading.
I used 4 mm silk from Dharma Trading. The clear dope is Randolph and the colored dope is Sig Super Coat.
Mr Cox, I was wondering if air brushing would be a good idea applying the dope
Yes, I use my airbrush for most areas of applying dope such as trim colors. All the red was applied with the airbrush.
