You're forgetting he was in his mid-teens when he formed Arctic Monkeys. He wrote lyrics to these songs before and shortly after he was 18. The lyrics on Humbug when he was in his early 20's were amazing.
I don't ever want to hate you So don't show me your bed The only roads are cul-de-sacs The first thing that she said Temptation, greets you like your naughty mate The one that used to get you in bother But one you could never bring yourself to hate And she said we've got that spark That only lights a fuse Helps you see in the dark But it's a sight you'll lose when The temptation greets you like your naughty friend I don't ever want to hate you So don't show me your bed The only roads are cul-de-sacs The only ends are dead Temptation greets you like your naughty mate One that made you steal and set things on fire But one you haven't seen of late And I said that kind of talk Only adds intrigue To the cauldron of thought It's already exceeding Temptation, the very thing that held her back I don't ever want to hate you So don't show me your bed The only roads are cul-de-sacs The only ends are dead I don't ever want to hate you It's not part of the plan So keep your charm where I can't see it And your hands where I can We used to be in tight me and my naughty friends Caused enticement in the air I mean day 'n' night We robbed, we stole, we loved to fight Smoking, drinking, joyriding Drugs, thugs, not law-abiding Reckless gangsters, no direction No sign of correction But then I switched it off Changed my ways What the hell Like oh my days But like my naughty friends They're not phased Can't believe that this music pays See no reason why we can't do All the things we've always done Still in my heart I know that's just what But its hard to fight the temptation son The panic will fall down around you If you don't do what I say I don't ever want to hate you So don't show me your bed The only roads are cul-de-sacs The only ends are dead I don't ever want to hate you It's not part of the plan So keep your charm where I can't see it And your hands where I can
the rap part is actually We used to be in tight, me and my naughty friends Caused pure madness in the ends, I mean day and night We robbed, we stole, we loved to fight Smoking, drinking, drag riding Drugs, thugs, not law-abiding Reckless youngsters, no direction, no sign of correction But then I switched it off, changed my ways Run the area like, "Oh, my days" But a lot of my naughty friends, they're not phased Can't believe that this music pays See no reason why we can't do All the things that we've always done Still in my heart I know that's just one But it's hard to fight the temptation, son
lol at the comments about the rap. i like when bands branch out and try something different. i know you dont have to like it but the band definitely did something cool
Adding a rapper to a song isn't trying to do something different... xD besides the point it works but its not different or unique to habe a rap verse its more of a token thing...
An album of b sides would be awesome but I guess that kind of defeats the purpose. Still nobody really buys singles anymore (unfortunately) but some of their best stuff recently has been released with their singles.
This tune is so good with dizzie Alex singing and dizzy rapping great drumming from Matt helders Alex's arctic's should work together for maybe a new album
see no reason why we can't do all the things that we've always done. i understand that you may not like it, i love the fact that there's some rap in the song, it's just a matter of tastes,i'm not a big rap fan but it fits so perfectly in the song that i can't help but love it. one of the best arctic monkeys' songs in my opinion. if you don't like it you have a lot of other songs to hear instead, or you can skip the rap, it goes from 2:17 to 2:48.
when I started listening to this song a couple days ago, like i have heard before but always just listened to it because of shuffle and now that it is one of my favs by them I am faced with the situation being expressed in the song
listening to this song in 2016 and still love it as much as I did when this album first came out! agree the rap segment could of been better or not in it at all.
I agree with you but I see it more as a bit of a laugh and some messing about getting dizzee in, as opposed to 'being adventurous' . This, in my opinion, is VERY like the sound of Whatever People Say I Am, more than most of Favorite Worst nightmare even. It just has a bit of that whole "Yano what'd be cool, if we got dizzee in for the last verse of that, for the craic" I suppose then again, im seeing it in the irish perspective in which we tend to do stuff just for the sake of doing it :P
I havent really tried yet, but seems the B-sides are hard to come by on good quality if you dont feel like buying every singel? Someone feel free to enlighten me, cus i find the b-sides to be better then many songs on the albums
Love how everyone is complaining about the rap because they're all a bunch of hipster 12 year olds who think "ERMAHGAHD IM NUT LYKE THUSE KIDZ AT MAH SKOOL WIT DA LIL WAYNE ND JUSTIN BIEBER IM DIFFERT 1111!!!!!!!
I agree with most of your points, I thought the rap bits were fine for a b side song. New sound is always nice and dandy, but doesnt always translates into quality. In the new album there are some songs that are quite boring in my opinion but I still liked it over all. I listened to the new stuff they have released as new b sides/collaboration things and Im not really diggin it, but thats still part of the band growing, whatever we like it or not, it's still better than being stuck in the past.
Alex Turner is a master at lyrics, incredible for his young age.
PullejaceusCanes he's a lyrical genius and a really funny/charming man
What age do you consider young? Cause dude is 31, if you didn't know
Beyonce Herrera yeah but he was like 20 when he wrote this
Hey hey! 31 is still young.. :(
You're forgetting he was in his mid-teens when he formed Arctic Monkeys. He wrote lyrics to these songs before and shortly after he was 18. The lyrics on Humbug when he was in his early 20's were amazing.
that guitar riff so simple yet awesome.
Are you kidding me? I absolutley LOVE Dizzie's part, it's surprising, yet it somehow really fits.
I don't ever want to hate you
So don't show me your bed
The only roads are cul-de-sacs
The first thing that she said
Temptation, greets you like your naughty mate
The one that used to get you in bother
But one you could never bring yourself to hate
And she said we've got that spark
That only lights a fuse
Helps you see in the dark
But it's a sight you'll lose when
The temptation greets you like your naughty friend
I don't ever want to hate you
So don't show me your bed
The only roads are cul-de-sacs
The only ends are dead
Temptation greets you like your naughty mate
One that made you steal and set things on fire
But one you haven't seen of late
And I said that kind of talk
Only adds intrigue
To the cauldron of thought
It's already exceeding
Temptation, the very thing that held her back
I don't ever want to hate you
So don't show me your bed
The only roads are cul-de-sacs
The only ends are dead
I don't ever want to hate you
It's not part of the plan
So keep your charm where I can't see it
And your hands where I can
We used to be in tight me and my naughty friends
Caused enticement in the air
I mean day 'n' night
We robbed, we stole, we loved to fight
Smoking, drinking, joyriding
Drugs, thugs, not law-abiding
Reckless gangsters, no direction
No sign of correction
But then I switched it off
Changed my ways
What the hell
Like oh my days
But like my naughty friends
They're not phased
Can't believe that this music pays
See no reason why we can't do
All the things we've always done
Still in my heart I know that's just what
But its hard to fight the temptation son
The panic will fall down around you
If you don't do what I say
I don't ever want to hate you
So don't show me your bed
The only roads are cul-de-sacs
The only ends are dead
I don't ever want to hate you
It's not part of the plan
So keep your charm where I can't see it
And your hands where I can
the rap part is actually
We used to be in tight, me and my naughty friends
Caused pure madness in the ends, I mean day and night
We robbed, we stole, we loved to fight
Smoking, drinking, drag riding
Drugs, thugs, not law-abiding
Reckless youngsters, no direction, no sign of correction
But then I switched it off, changed my ways
Run the area like, "Oh, my days"
But a lot of my naughty friends, they're not phased
Can't believe that this music pays
See no reason why we can't do
All the things that we've always done
Still in my heart I know that's just one
But it's hard to fight the temptation, son
close
Matt's drums sound great on this one
he's always do the best :)
One of the best in the world.
On every single one actually, he's always great.
@@arcticcaligari2444 yup
That rap surprised me
This song is the best combonation of Alternative/Indie and Rap!!!! You don't hear much songs like that
I don't get all the haters, Dizzie's verse is one of the best parts of the song...
Is this a joke ?
No... And clearly I'm not the only one that thinks so considering 14 other people agreed with me...
+Acko Olly It adds something different and works pretty well. I can see why people weren't keen though
PhunkyPhishPhan aha, he did it right, i mean, the song it's good and the rap part made it better
I hate rap for the most part but this songs sick
Wow the rapping part was just perfect :D
the ALEX TURNER part even better :D
Dexter Morgan
oh really ? :D
Dizzee's part fits like a glove
a golove on my dick
Like Sunday's frozen pitch fits the thermos flask
randrews1806 slept like a glove as matt j helders the third has said
Well most of the band members were rap fans in their high school days, most notably alex
Yeah, Alex was a massive Roots Manuva fan. Also, Dizzee Rascal is great. I really like this song, the rap part fits perfectly.
Alex and Matt both listened to Hip-Hop a lot during their time in school. That's why Alex could seriously spit bars, and Matt's Agile Beast alter ego
I'm not normally into rap, but that rap solo is bliss.
2017, and this is still one of my favorite songs
Ooo that rap fits in good.
absolutely!
the monkeys and dizz are both great acts and together they made a fantastic song!
cheers!
lol at the comments about the rap. i like when bands branch out and try something different. i know you dont have to like it but the band definitely did something cool
you're righr
+super esparrago :'v right* sorry
Adding a rapper to a song isn't trying to do something different... xD besides the point it works but its not different or unique to habe a rap verse its more of a token thing...
British rappers are a gift from God
Yeah they are good but the west side and the east side :GOLD
+eatanentireass good British rappers are a gift from God
+eatanentireass Agree
Nice username my friend, lmao.
asseater007 Agreed
i was NOT expecting that rap verse lmao
Dizzee spices up this song. It was ESSENTIAL.
An album of b sides would be awesome but I guess that kind of defeats the purpose. Still nobody really buys singles anymore (unfortunately) but some of their best stuff recently has been released with their singles.
Agreed!
I know this is late but Beneath the Boardwalk!!!!
The UK's finest guitar band and rap artist collaboration.
2017 still play this song!!!
I think the rap adds to the awesome-ness of this song
2021. forgot how good this was
"The only roads are cul-de-sacs, The first thing that she said"
i love all their songs, whenever i'm bored and need something new to listen i catch some of their more unknown (?) songs. lovvvvve
This tune is so good with dizzie Alex singing and dizzy rapping great drumming from Matt helders Alex's arctic's should work together for maybe a new album
This is the greatest B Side I have ever heard
This song is so good (:
Such a good song
man! the rap fits in with this beat perfectly
the rap in the middle is perfect. amazing transition. obviously, there will be some opposing views, but i think its brilliant.
This is my new favourite song. I am going to listen to it until I hate it.
do you hate it yet?
do you hate it yet?
still waiting tho
Hate it yet?
Hate it yet?
its awsome man he adds a new vibe to the song
see no reason why we can't do all the things that we've always done.

when I started listening to this song a couple days ago, like i have heard before but always just listened to it because of shuffle and now that it is one of my favs by them I am faced with the situation being expressed in the song
this is the one that got me hooked
You're not alone!
I find it rare to indentify with a song 100%!
there is no version without dizzee rascal. and his part is very good, and i think it sticks to this song well.
This song is amazing
listening to this song in 2016 and still love it as much as I did when this album first came out! agree the rap segment could of been better or not in it at all.

Gerçek bir aşık, sevdiğiyle yatmaz arkadaşlar İskender Davud Dönme dostumuz bu şarkısının sözlerinde de haklı bence
Maça Ası sonra shes thunderstorms yazmayı biliyo ama
I was enjoying the song until the rap came on... then i enjoyed it even more :)
@heffleyman That really depends, UK also has Punk, Dubstep, Britpop and basically each good music style covered (;
this deserves a place on the next album...infact all the B-sides belong on a album there better than quite a few of songs that are comerical
the best
I think this is 1 of ther best songs
i bet they still have like a nother 50 brilliant songs which will never be released. maybe do a double disc album sone time from now ? :)
i totally forgot about the rap part. it was amazing though
Isn't this from the Brianstorm album?
Pedro H. Yes, it's a B-Side from Favourite Worst Nightmare, the same record of Brianstorm.
+Sérgio Jesus It's not on Favourite Worst Nightmare. It must be a B-side from a single.
It's a b-side on the Brianstorm single, alongside "If You Found This, It's Probably Too Late" and "What If You Were Right The First Time?"
This is actually fucking awesome.
I agree with you but I see it more as a bit of a laugh and some messing about getting dizzee in, as opposed to 'being adventurous' . This, in my opinion, is VERY like the sound of Whatever People Say I Am, more than most of Favorite Worst nightmare even. Subbed. You mentioned CC lol
I don't care if you do/don't like the rap bit.
Wicks91 definitely not rap beat though

i actually dont like rap but this one is so good and it fits the song. by the way, does anyone know who sings the rap part?
i hope they play this at rock for people!! love this song..theyll be playing allot of their new stuff though...which will be cool
Awesome!!! just excellent brilliant stuff!
I dont like it, I love it!!!
love the rap bit with dizzy donk
"I don't ever want to hate you, so don't show me your bed." yeah baby
best tune
@RaZinanA Nope. Alex did a song on dizzee's album. that chorus was used. Alex then got him in.
This is the most British song that Britain can muster
2016!!
+Jack Powson hahah
Forever
I have this album but not this song. Is this on "Favourite Worst Nightmare"?
What are people talking about!! Dizzee gives so much to song! Stop Complaining!! It is awesome!
I havent really tried yet, but seems the B-sides are hard to come by on good quality if you dont feel like buying every singel?
Someone feel free to enlighten me, cus i find the b-sides to be better then many songs on the albums
Hahaha, i love your name ;P
Love how everyone is complaining about the rap because they're all a bunch of hipster 12 year olds who think "ERMAHGAHD IM NUT LYKE THUSE KIDZ AT MAH SKOOL WIT DA LIL WAYNE ND JUSTIN BIEBER IM DIFFERT 1111!!!!!!!
eatanentireass or they just don't like rap....
eatanentireass lol, but it would be good if charts had more rock in it

@breekwhal It is there second album.
i love dizzee rascal in this song, i think its really different:3
When I first heard this song I lost my fucking mind when the rap thing came up
yes he is :)
i don't care what you guy say. i quite like how they've managed to put rap in an indie tune.
I agree with most of your points, I thought the rap bits were fine for a b side song. New sound is always nice and dandy, but doesnt always translates into quality. In the new album there are some songs that are quite boring in my opinion but I still liked it over all. where can i download all the B-side songs for a mac book???? this song was the kicker for me aha
Actually the rap part made me enjoy the song more
