I absolutely adore your reviews! So in-depth without spoiling the story. I have owned Red Sister for a long time and you have finally pushed me over the edge to pick this series up. This has definitely moved up the ladder to my immediate TBR.
I love this series.... I read it over the summer and have since read it again and listened to it on audio. I just really love the characters a lot - started writing fanfiction again for the first time in years.
Great gushing! I need to continue with this serie asap! Also I discovered yesterday that Mark Lawrence was the creator of the SPFBO, another reason to like him! love your lipstick btw
I just finished Holy Sister and I am here for the gush. :) I loved so much about the series and it is definitely a favorite of mine. I rarely reread books, but I'm already planning to read this again next year. There is just so much in these books and I think they will hold up to a reread very well.
Red Sister has been on my Goodreads TBR since it came out, but I just now checked it out from the library - thanks for inspiring me to finally get around to it!
I want to read these books so badly, but cannot seem to find anything other than mass market paperback anywhere. Any advice on where to get regular paperback or hardcover?
The Book of the Ancestor is now easily one of my favourite trilogies ever. Do you happen to know any book or series similar to Book of the Ancestor? I especially loved these elements: solid worldbuilding, a predominantly female cast, strong friendships and minimal romance (understanding romance as it is carried on YA, usually I don't like it) and protagonist(s) with a lot of heart.
sorry, nothing with those features comes to mind right now in adult fantasy! closest would be The Poppy War series by RF Kuang though not as female focused in the cast
Dying Earth is the sub-genre of fantasy I think the series falls into. I got the feeling that it's our solar system far enough in the future that the sun has been declining and is on the path to becoming a red giant. And that it is this decline that is the major cause of the extreme environment that is our setting. Of course I could be completely wrong and it is a different solar system all together and the "peoples" living there have massively effed up and caused the climate change that led to the extreme environment on their world. And I was very impressed with Lawrence's ability to write females so well. Overall I am glad I stuck with Red Sister since I was spicy AF after I read the prologue for Part II. I gave it four stars and am now excited to start Grey Sister. The other series he wrote that you've been made aware of is The Broken Empire. I have only read about 15% into the first book and while I am enjoying it, I can't read more than one or two chapters at a time. Its violence is extreme and thus far there isn't a morally grey character in the bunch. They are all evil bastards, in my opinion, including the MC. I feel ok about recommending it from the bit that I have read, but with a boatload of caution due to the nature of the violence, and seriously, the sheer amount there is.
My impression is that a group of people (possibly Earthings??) came to this world & then managed to ruin it, but I may be reading that incorrectly. I feel like he is purposefully a little vague since the characters themselves aren't totally sure what their deep back story is on the planet. And yes, I heard Broken Empire is brutal! I think I'm going to start with the other series (maybe Red Queen?) - first book is Prince of Fools. Fingers crossed I love it half as much as this series
Reading it for the second time. Superb book series.

Reading for the second time and managed to read the short story 'Bound' between 2 & 3. A good fun read and nice to enjoy in it's place.

Yesssss!! Hope you enjoy!
Nevernight series by Jay Krisoff and Book of Ancestors by Mark Lawrence, which is easier to read for fantasy beginners? Thanks
I am totally up for a book club on this series. I have them on my kindel. Can't wait to read them. Reading as a group would be amazing.
You've totally convinced me to order the first book in the series.
Mission accomplished!
