Some the comments you guys are making are hilarious!!!! You'd hate him if he sounded like his dad, you hate cause he doesn't sound like his dad..... He's a phenomenal artist pushing the limits both in techniques and phrasing. Some people should look beyond who his dad, and appreciate where he's going with it. I'll bet the ones bashing can't even hold any of his dad's grooves.
I agree 50%. The bass player in the back... threw the average off. 😐 Some of the worst vamping.... rocked out of any rhythm, and polished his bass strings with the palm of his hand. Someone PLEASE TAKE THAT CARL THOMPSON AWAY FROM THIS GUY. What... did rich kid with $10,000 bass pay him to play at his 18th birthday jam? I’m lost as to why the second bass player is both... there... and is either watching or playing over the bass solo... Whoever delivers me that bass gets $5,000... no questions asked.
go ahead Felix your Dad would be proud you have your own sound and technique so folks need to stop criticizing you for not sounding exactly like your father Play on Brother you doing fine
I saw Felix play at the Baked Potato in Los Angeles last week with the Ian Roller group. The dude is a frickin monster on bass; he plays like his pops fundamentally but definitely has his own style. I was born too late to see Jaco play but Felix is such a wonderful extension of that experience. Jaco is smiling down on his boy, for sure.
Love It! God I wish I lived in New York where I could just randomly go have a drink and listen to ridiculously great players like this. I wonder if he's still playing little gigs?
I highly advise you all check out Mike Bendy's channel (the bass player in the back ground) I personally enjoy his style of playing over Felix's. Both absolute monsters none the less.
Technique-wise, he's got more influence from Willis than from his dad, it seems. +1 on what Luis Varela said, and I absolutely love Luis' term "fireproof genes".
Never underestimate the power of the brain. This kid probably said to himself, Jaco's genius runs through my vains, and he truly believed it. Amazingly good bassplayer.
Might have something to do with the fact that there are many other players who are already satisfying the demand for this style of modern bass playing.
Even Jaco's son can't capture his fathers feel, that's something that can't be imitated no matter how good you think you are. Jaco was truly unique in his timing, phrasing and overall rhythmic approach, and he didn't have to slap to be funky! I don't want to diminish this guy, I think he's an incredible player in his own right! He should be doing his own thing so the comparisons won't be made as much as when he does his Fathers best known works.
it's just a youtube comment. you haven't seen him in person or when he's pushing his limits. This is an unrehearsed jam, everything is improvised and they're all doing whatever comes to mind
I suppose if he didn't follow in his dsd's footsteps, he could have earned a living using those hand's to knock down buildings or something. They're mahoosive!
hmm...idk. Theory, speed, and skill are great and all, but at the end of the day making music is king to me. Where are his albums original tracks? Someone post a link of his music. I mean his original music. I'm not interested in recreations of other dead musicitions work. Don't get me wrong, but I've just heard so much of it. I want to hear original sounds not remakes. idk...I'll keep looking lol. Def wish I had his chops though lol.
He's a damn good bass player but his style is much different than his fathers. He has more of a "popping" or "punchy" attack to the strings where Jaco plucked more smoothly with his fingers. Like a more traditional jazz style. His son is really good but you only hear a few bits and pieces of his father's influence in his playing. It's just not as pleasing to the ear as Jaco. Especially when playing jazz. It just sounds out of place. Also, his band is talented but there is absolutely no structure to their music. Just strictly an improvisation jam session. It's incredibly repetitious. It nearly put me to sleep half way through
are you people out of your minds?! there's no comparison to Jaco . . . a lot of what he's doing is "cute", but it's just that. good technique, sure, why not … he's a good player. Jaco was an artist!!! You can find great paintings at Walmart done with great technique . . . but it's not art! and neither is what they're doing here compared to what Jaco gave us . . . dammm you people are duhhhhhh.
happy new year to you too! . you see, your problem is a lack of objectivity and also a lack of comprehension regarding the difference between art and mechanics . I believe you're someone who would kiss the ass of a moose if someone told you it would make you cool . really . but it wouldn't and neither do your assinine comments or I'm sure, your mediocre playing, make you cool . my guess is you're just a musical instrument master bater . so, just because nothings spurting out the top of your bass . doesn't mean your not jerking it off good enough . just try a little harder . . . in other words GFY.

Just in case it's not obvious, this is some next level bass playing!
I AGREE 100 PERCENT

absolutely brilliant. That muted thumb with plucking finger technique is to die for!!!!!!!
Absolutely phenomenal performance by everyone!
This music is out of this world !!! specially Felix Pastorius. Outstanding !!!
Jaco should be proud to see this!
His hands are huge haha! Makes that 5 string neck look the width of a pencil! Great interpretation of his fathers classic
Kenny Grohowski is fantastic on the drums!
One of the greatest!
That’s such a cool finger style with the fingers tucked under the thumb
I was thinking the same thing while watching this video!
Love It! God I wish I lived in New York where I could just randomly go have a drink and listen to ridiculously great players like this. I wonder if he's still playing little gigs?
Just saw them the other day in nyc, they still kick ass!
@@chakuseki Nice.
Go to the next level, then go a couple levels higher. Incredible. World class playing.
this is just perfection

Incredible playing
i love sound!!!

Yeah Felix!!!
Heard Felix's story on how he came to the bass very humble guy.
Absolute insane mindblowing felix pastorius.. Just like his father.. Got no words.
que animal! que orgullo tener un hijo así
awesome!
Like father like son! He's just as awesome as his dad was!
JUST, WOW.
Technique-wise, he's got more influence from Willis than from his dad, it seems. +1 on what Luis Varela said, and I absolutely love Luis' term "fireproof genes".
Just a friendly thought for uploading shows, you should post the lineup and give these guys some credit!
Felix the Monster.
Never underestimate the power of the brain. This kid probably said to himself, Jaco's genius runs through my vains, and he truly believed it. Amazingly good bassplayer.
Dude is a monster. Doesn’t hurt that his big hands help him with those spread out scales
Bomba !!!!
I will make a likely correct guess that Felix is Jaco's son? lol
a beast
All of your hate mail comments are just about as ignorant as comparing my paintings to a sack of shit. Felix is a great artist. Full stop.
Jaco would be proud, RIP maestro !!
(Used to be) (Usted to be a) Cha Cha
dude that tempo is crazy!
Why doesn't Jaco's son get more press?!?!?!?!
he doesn't care for it
I stumbled upon this video a few minutes ago and....holy crap! He is insane on the 6 string.
rhyknowforever thanks for the uploaded video...it's amazing
Might have something to do with the fact that there are many other players who are already satisfying the demand for this style of modern bass playing.
NONEED
this is one of the lowest of the lows of comment sections on youtube
Fuck the Felix's Fodera bass let's see that Carl Thompson in the background
he looks like Jaco in the Year 2012 Amazing Bass Player His is wonderful He plays like a god
thats before the punk jazz tattoo
True true. check out my latest vid, that has the lineup and some links to check out. Like 'em on FB too!
i bet he’s a great drummer, too
i dont get it, just so incredible...
True.
YES
That's titan of a hand
A.J D.J
A.J : Antes de Jaco.
D.J: después de Jaco.

I PLAYED BASKETBALL WITH HIS DAD ,OMG
Wow. Felix has a crazy reach when play fighting. Could only imagine a basketball game. Cheers
I suppose if he didn't follow in his dsd's footsteps, he could have earned a living using those hand's to knock down buildings or something. They're mahoosive!
didn't know his son plays bass...
And the other son, Julius, plays drums 👌 they also play together, check for it!
Why to bassists?
*two or *too
Felix's long thumb exactly resembles his father's! hahaha
I don't like the two bass thing but great sound.
you probably wanted to say "didn't know His son plays bass". He came to earth to suffer for your sins. For he is the son of God.
hmm...idk. Theory, speed, and skill are great and all, but at the end of the day making music is king to me.

The bassist is in the wrong timing.
it's a game, Man. ;)
He is dragging.
Josue Pires I know the song, he is in the wrong time.
Josue Pires
:) for me it's not about to be correct as original or some reference. peace
he is in the wrong time with the band. You did'nt get it,
