Ah man I got excited when I saw the title, thought we're finally getting bit-streamed HD audio support when using apps like Plex! Alas, have to stick to using Google TV boxes amidst mostly Apple setups throughout multiple households...
Lossless TrueHD Atmos when Apple?😢
@@Techthusiasm Definitely not going to happen! Apple would have added it when the ATV 4K launched in 2017 with 4K Dolby Vision if it was of interest to them. They are not interested. Eddy Cue even says that he can't hear the difference with lossless on Apple Music but can hear the spacial audio difference. If anything, compression with AI will just get better and better and hopefully Dolby will replace the horrifically outdated Dolby Digital. In fairness as well, it's all down to how the studios are mastering their film, for example, I find that SONY films even with Dolby Atmos are dull and lifeless in audio whereas some independent films audio absolutely shines! I've really given up waiting for TrueHD, it's not going to happen guys. We really need to move on from this!
It will be on the new Apple TV 4K with chip 17 releasing this or next year.
@@BarcelonasHotCrowd As long as the audio signal comes through as good as lossless that's all that matters. LFE always takes a bloody hit on most films on streaming. There are always a couple miraculous exceptions however the inconsistency is just utter nonsense
@@BarcelonasHotCrowd I would never use this for my HT movie watching. Lossless is a must for a good home theater and you can hear a big difference between the two. Its fine for watching in my living room or normal non hdr/atmos content.
I Agree! I miss that movie details before playing the movie.
That’s sweet news because thanks to you, I now only purchase my movies on 🍎!!
Perfect timing for them to adopt HDR10+ to go along with my brand new Samsung S95C
Woohoo! I am so glad they are adding the movie info back in! And I agree that the info page should be the default as opposed to having to long press, but it’s progress. Thanks for the update!
So glad you made some noise to advocate to bring back the meta data. I agree 100% with everything you shared!! It sucks that Apple goes backwards to remove features and functions, only to bring it back as a "new" feature.
Well done, keep up the fight
I’m running tvOS 18 on my Apple TV 4K 2021
Nice feature. It's the only APPLE DEVICE we own. Great player running 8 years strong. Now we need a new remote!
Great, but we also lost our Wish List and TV Favorites
The wish list is still available but you can’t add anything to it anymore
The wish list is available on the iTunes movie app
I also agree with you that instead of playing the movie when clicking, you should go to the details page first. At least offer the setting as you suggested.
I would like to see the counts of my own movies, since the new update, they do not have the amount of movies that I’ve purchased since I’ve been using Apple TV and I know every so often some of my movies will disappear so by having the amount I know if one disappears or maybe that’s why they took the count off the new update
110% agree. Thanks Apple for bringing back this feature. I am with you on the settings option. That would be great. One other function I wish the ATV library had was the ability to custom sort content. Take a page from the PLEX book and allow us to use sorting to group content. I would prefer seeing titles such as The DaVinci Code movies or the ... Is Fallen movies in a group.
Agreed. Glad they at least brought that back. When will we get our movie count back that we used to have in the itunes app as well?
I totally agree with you here - they had no reason to change the feature… also they can add the wishlist feature…
Apple always does that crap…
I would like to see them simply port over the visualizer and equalizer feature and settings from iTunes!
Thank you for this video. I agree wholeheartedly with everything that you said in this video. I got really annoyed when Apple gutted itunes and forced us into using the TV app. When they did that, I really missed all of the movie information that we could easily get when we used itunes for viewing movies. When will tvOS 18 be released? I am looking forward to getting the movie information that we used to get.
Thanks for the video, well done. I really wish that my new Apple TV 4K would allow me to download series / movies that I purchased on iTunes… there’s plenty of space. We use this in our RV, and sometimes it’s tough to get online in remote areas.
I'll tell you what else I miss from the separate TV & Movies apps. Wishlists. That still isn't back AFAIK.
Another reason Apple needs to add lossless audio is because any movie in DTS X misses out on 3D audio when streaming. If Apple supported lossless and DTS that would be a game changer. I love the Harry Potter movies but on Apple TV you’re stuck with 5.1.
I just updated to the newest AppleTV using an older Samsung LCD Tv using optical from TV to AVR and now I don’t get Dolby 5.1 on the AVR. I have the same settings as the other AppleTV I moved upstairs. Don’t know what changed in the HDMi output from the AppleTV.
I have a Roku tv 4k atmos but my Apple TV is not showing atmos only tv speakers
Thanks!💯👴🏽
With some movies having a menu it would be really bad design to not jump straight into that menu. For movies without it they should go to the movie page.
Thanks for the video and the heads up on the update. In TVOS 18, are the TV and Movie apps now removed? I assume I could just delete them, but I’ve been hesitant since they were automatically removed by Apple.
I have some physical dvds that don’t have digital codes. Is there a way to get these dvds into a digital format and into my Apple TV library?
One roundabout way would be if FandangoNOW still does the old VUDU D2D type and then those movies happened to port through with Movies Anywhere. I'm not sure that still works though.
Where are my free Aople TV+ movies of the month??? 😐😐
I was wondering this as well lol
I kinda liked how they started adding access to additional content out of nowhere
Yeah show the Movie Posters Apple! Not the crappy TV-artwork the marketing department are putting together. It hurt my eyes.
How stable is the beta?
I haven't seen any other issue, but by Control4 control of the ATV did stop. I think I need to reconnect something.
@Techthusiasm
Hi…..curious if you’re running TVOS 18 beta and noticed if the Halo Mic option is broke?
I upgraded mine and no longer have the SIRI functionality
With the betas, I have a lot of trouble with the Halo controlling the ATVs in general. I feel like the betas often break control intermittently. I've gone back to just using the Siri remote for now, especially being on the early developer beta track.
@@Techthusiasm I seem to have full functionality with my Halo and tvOS 18 beta ATV except the "MIC" / "SIRI" button which no longer works.......curious if you could test your HALO MIC / SIRI button when you have a moment
@@Techthusiasm It is really nice now on tvOS 18 that Apple includes subtitles on rewind and mute......I actually find the quick 10 / 20 / 30 sec rewind HALO button quicker and easier than initiating SIRI with the MIC button
What sound settings if I only use a 2.0 system via optical ?
Check out the video on Atmos settings for audio using 2 channel in the Apple TV playlist.
Still On 17.1. When 18 comes out should I update?
For sure update when the public release happens. Your choice if you want to go early on a beta.
Is there still no way to organize my movies purchased in any order i want like Fandango?
They really should let us integrate Plex into it
What does this mean and how to set up on a projector. See below. tvOS 18 also brings 21:9 support for playing movies and shows on projectors
The 21:9 support has not yet been released in the current betas. Hopefully soon!
@@Techthusiasm Thanks. I am on Public beta and couldn’t see how to activate. Makes sense.
@@Techthusiasm Hopefully you will do a video when this feature is released. Sorry to hijack or ask a non related question. I appreciate your quick response. Keep up the great work.
Oh, for sure! I want this feature too ASAP. I will drop that video immediately.
Apple TV states how powerful their streaming device is bu their audio output is Dolby Atmos or 2.0 PCM. It doesn’t recognize that not all movies are atmos..PCM definitely does not sound good. To get Dolby digital which a majority of movies are from streaming services I have to go into settings and cancel atmos and put in Dolby digital. Other streaming devices like firestick, Nviidia shield, and my own tv apps play atmos if the movie has it or Dolby digital if the movie has that audio.. I don’t have to go into settings and change anything. The streaming device or app does it automatically. Why can’t Apple and its high powered streaming device do the same? It seems in the Apple world only 2 audio outputs exist either atmos or pcm stereo.
PCM quality is what you mostly want out of the ATV when the content isn't in Atmos. PCM is digitally lossless to the encoded source. If you configure your Apple TV to output normal Dolby Digital, you're losing quality to a lossless extra re-encoding.
@@Techthusiasm that’s good to know. The second coming out of my Sonos arc comes out a little bit lower in volume with the PCM so I have to crank it up. With the Dolby digital audio it comes out loud so I assumed that if movie or tv show was in Dolby that I should force Apple TV to provide Dolby
100% agree. Bring back theatrical posters and add lossless Atmos.
Yes!
Yes I agree, lossless Atmos would be great. For now, use 4K Blu-ray Disc to get the lossless atmos
Thanks for making this video. I missed this feature. Hope they add back wishlists and posters too.
