    I made a short version of my two favorite cues from the movie and mixed them together in one track.
    At the time that I made this video, the docking scene music was not included in the official soundtrack, so I had to transcribe it from the movie itself. This version of the Main Theme is called "S.T.A.Y." on the official soundtrack.
    I'd like to thank boyd bakema for putting the audio of this scene online, check out is channel.

      SPNKring nope, Newton's third law states for every action force is an equal in magnitude and opposite in direction reaction force.
      The math behind it is why they had to 'leave something behind'
      Too much gravity to overcome.

    Incredible gift for transcribing, you learnt all that by ear, you got those descending high pianos notes spot on in the docking music part, the part I couldn't pick out was the start main docking melody notes in bass, as they are really muffled with the other instruments. He should get Oscar for the score, but I am guessing grand Budapest hotel will win.

    • @MarcoLongoMusic
      @MarcoLongoMusic  9 років тому

      +Christian Gatica It's a Nord Stage 2 Hammer Action 88 Keys. I bought it online from Gear Orphanage, which is the best reseller I know on the west coast. For some reasons now the price seems to be $4000, but I got it new for $3300. My advice is to try it in a store before buying it, to make sure that it actually satisfy your needs. Also there are some rumors about a possible release of a Nord Stage 3 in the next few months. If I were you I'd wait a bit more for an official announcement, so that you can potentially save some money on a NS2 instead. Good luck!

    Marco, what an incredible job you've done transcribing this out. I'm an active composer, choral director and music theory teacher and have embraced similar transcription projects before for film soundtracks on a much smaller scale (primarily Thomas Newman works). Those projects of mine pale in comparison to the fantastic work you've done here with this titanic work of art. Beyond that, your willingness to freely share your finished project is remarkable. Most other people who do a similar volume of work transcribing something like this usually don't make the finished product available at all, much less for free, and instead hold tightly onto it and share it only in the "performance" of their video. I'm very impressed with this, and thanks so much for linking to a free pdf of the notated transcription so that others can "run" with the music so to speak.

    • @MarcoLongoMusic
      @MarcoLongoMusic  9 років тому +22

      Tim, thank you so much for your kind words. Such feedbacks from other composer and arrangers like you are totally worth the effort of making a video and uploading the score. I'm really into transcriptions and arrangements, don't hesitate to contact me if you ever need help with your projects ;)

    Wanna know how i got this soundtrack? My friend was... an awesome composer. And a genius. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. This guy makes a cover vid to show himself. Haters doesn't like that. Not-one-bit. So -me listening- he takes the piano, crying while he does it. Turns to me, and he says, "why so epic?" Comes at me with the handkerchief... "why so emotional at the same time?" He plays the piano and makes this cover vid... "Let's make it even more epic" And... Why so awesome?

    This theme is going to go down in movie history, I just know it.
    Its such a simple cliche of a scene, but the fact that the music for this scene and the sheer terror that you had to be within a millionth of an accuracy coupled together, made this movie.

    Let's be honest about this. This musical masterpiece deserves an Oscar. I am a music producer. I love house, grime, Rnb, dub step, Motown, classical , garage.
    I can't express the talent Hans Zimmer has and the envy I feel for someone in a state of mind who can create this. I am hugely influenced by Philip Glass who is my hero. If you love this track I urge you to check out Glass also. Candy Man soundtrack has this vibe to it.
    I salute you Hans. You are blessed mate

    Holy hell you did a fantastic job transcribing! I don't even know what to say. Got any sheet music for it? :P
    Really though this was truly great work. I was not prepared for you to play the docking music so faithfully. Even with the lively piano runs! Superb my friend. Absolutely superb.

      Thank you very much! I haven't made sheet music yet, but if other people ask for it I'll spend some time and do it ;)

      Marco Longo *prays that everyone asks* I guess I'll have to just send this to everyone I know and tell them to send it to everyone they know haha. Well if you didn't already have it written down I wouldn't ask for you to go out of your way. Thanks anyway for the wonderful performance!

      No seriously, I'm a bit busy right now but I might have some time in 2-3 weeks and if I see that there is some request I'll do it for sure :)

    So far Marco Longo, this is the best cover of Docking BY FAR. I have listened to it like 20 times now. Even the other original cuts of this song don't sound as powerful. Maybe cause they try to put too much bass in it and no mids or trebles. Seriously good job. Thank you so much for this!

    • @MarcoLongoMusic
      @MarcoLongoMusic  9 років тому

      Even better than the original? Wow ... I don't think so, but thanks!

      I meant better than the ones on UA-cam. Your sound quality is better. All the other videos sound like poo

    • @MarcoLongoMusic
      @MarcoLongoMusic  9 років тому

    The guy who actually played this did it all live on an organ.. That's talent.. But this is good too

  • @magep468
    @magep468 8 років тому +4

    There's this guy with 8 different tracks to make this 1 song....goes to show the difference between an avid and a professional (this guy is still pretty good though!)--originally played on 1 church organ

    • @MarcoLongoMusic
      @MarcoLongoMusic  8 років тому +12

      No not at all. The original soundtrack is also plenty of stems, overdubs, edits, sound design, automations and sfx

    • @Lightreeeeeeee
      @Lightreeeeeeee 7 років тому

      The original was indeed played on 1 church organ, with multiple recorded tracks layered over one-another. I've been playing the Piano since I was 3 and organ since about 11, no matter how good Roger Sayer is (and he's fucking mental!), he's still only limited to 2 rows of keys + the foot pedals at most.

    • @nolitopnice

      Marco Longo can you make a midi file of it ?

    • @kirakustime1215
      @kirakustime1215 7 років тому

      The church organ can have upwards of 100 stops playing at once. The sound he wanted was the Great Chorus, which is almost all of the stops if not all of them. The electronic version can only hand maybe 20 with out frying.
