are they black bears or grizzly bears..? Black bears you stand up and make alot of noise make your self look big.. Grizzly bears you lay face down remain still, lock your fingers behind your neck. I have sleigh bells on my trike.. bears and mountain lions don't like the sound and they will stay away. I live in Oregon, i also carry bear spray in reach on my trike..
They're Eurasian brown bears. It's the same species as grizzly bears, but a different subspecies. Also, they aren't that common in that part of the country.

You can steer from the rack.. Just put a sideways pressure on the rack (to the right makes the trike go left (visaversa)
Usually no bears in this region. They are living in SE part of country. 800 aprox.
