These were the rage back at the time. I lusted after one but couldn't afford it. Later on I picked up a Fujifilm S7000 used and that was the camera that firmly planted me in digital photography for a decade. I'm pretty sure it's still a forgotten reject, and you're just the fella to go find a good working one cheap and smile. (Seriously, that thing took some of my favorite photos from all the 2000s.)

Fujifilm always knocked it out of the park with their bridge cameras. 14 year old me for a second hand cheap fuji bridge camera and it was my first experience with manual shooting. I adored it. Like all good and eventually beloved cameras, once you bonded to it and knew its quirks, you could get some amazing results with it.

Beautiful images. And it goes to show that good light makes a good image - regardless of what the camera can do. Using a camera with "limitations" actually make it easier to recognize what a suitable situation for a great photograph is.

I had a Powershot Pro1. Cost me $1,000.00. It was stolen out of my car back in 2007. I loved that camera. It took great photos. I replaced it with a Powershot G9, and that thing didn't come close to the Pro1 in terms of image quality. The only thing it did better was video, which by today's standards might as well have been vhs.

Great review, I bought the camera myself in 2005. I had replaced the Yashica 230AF at that time. With 8MP and the standard zoom of 28-200 I was fully satisfied. I only replaced the camera with the Fuji XT-2 in 2018 - as it had some pixel errors. Looking through my photo books, the Powershot Pro1 has nothing to hide - if you don't zoom into the photos.

Back in 2007, I bumped into a guy who was using one of these. I had a Canon 400D at that time, and we talked for a while about cameras. He loved the Pro 1, and to be honest, I was quite keen on it as well. I love how Canon used PDAF sensors on the front beside the lens, much like earlier film cameras like the Contax T3.

So envious you got to shoot owl photos with ANY camera.!!!... Just found you. Subbed immediately. Was living in Japan when most of the old cameras you talk about were new.... Fascinating to look back. Still have my first, a Sony DSC P8 which I feel still captures very sharp images, but sadly, no owls...yet!

I actually started photography with my parents' old Fujifilm s1500 that we kept on the shelf for quite a long time. At first it felt a bit limited, but when I got used to it, it genuinely felt amazing to use such an old device and the photos that it took surprised me because of how much better they looked than I thought they would. I now have a Canon 1200D as my main shooter, but I still do come back to the Fuji at times because of it's small form factor, simplicity and film like image quality. I'm amazed by how much life this little camera has even after all those years.

This and the Canon 5D classic use the same BP511 battery so I often carry them together. I have found that as long as you keep ISO at the base of 50 and use external small flash, the pictures are amazing with the Powershot Pro 1.

I am having fun with an old Olympus E-10. I love the results out of it. It is built and has the feature set of a camera clearly intended for the serious and professional photographer. 20 years later the only thing really limiting it is the limited ISO range from 80-320. It also doesn't have RAW files but the TIFF lossless files are often just as flexible for post processing and editing.

Thank you for another great video. I used several of Canon's consumer Powershot compact megazooms, all with CCD sensors: S2is (5 MP), S3is 6 PM), SX10is (10 MP) and SX20is (12 MP). the latter two are still used by us for travel and for casual walkabouts as compact alternatives to our Pentax K20D and K-m.

I've owned the Pro 1 for some months now (aswell as the F828). The Pro1, I agree, is an amazing piece of kit, having an L series lens makes this Canon a big deal, and yes prices are going upward as the Pro1 becomes harder to find in good condition. I paid over £100 for mine but its in mint condition, it also came with the filter ring attachment and hood. I just wish Canon had adopted a manual zoom, as in the F828 and the R1. I'm torn between the Pro1, the Sony F828 and my treasured Sony R1. These three oldies have become my favourites, and I use them every day. They are amazing cameras. Many thanks.
    Regards Rob (UK).

I used one for a couple of years. In 2008 I switched to a Nikon D300, and was surprised that it was not really an upgrade in terms of image quality, due, I think, to the Nikon's anti-alias filter obscuring more detail than the added 50% resolution gained. We have a poster hanging on our shop wall that we published of a Stradivari violin body shown full size that is in no way inferior to what I could do today, thanks mainly to the limitations of halftone printing technology obscuring any detail gain beyond a certain point.

I've been into digital photography for over 20 years now. My first digital was an Olympus D340R (1998) if that tells you anything. Through your videos and a couple of other channels I've been dabbling in this whole "digicam" resurgence for the last couple of months and I've bought a Sony S85 and a Pro1. I found the Pro1 for $47 so I guess I got a pretty decent deal. I remember when this camera came out I wanted one but I had just bought a Canon 10D so I couldn't justify the Pro1's $1000 price in addition to my dslr. I have taken it out a couple of times and I'm loving the results I'm getting with it. Digital photography now is all about the sharpest lenses, the best low light performance, etc, it's nice to not worry about all that and just concentrate on taking photos. It's liberating and I'm loving it. Keep it up! Loving your videos!

This camera has the same 2/3" sensor as the Sony 828, but as you have noted, its body is much smaller. The Pro 1 is a beautiful design. Too bad it was a one-off. I own this camera and the 828. I'm not sure which I prefer, and in truth, I use neither nowadays. But both are worth acquiring as benchmark cameras, and with the 2/3" CCD, both are more than capable instruments.

I have a Minolta Maxxum 5D DSLR. It isn't mirrorless, but that is OK. I really like the images produced by the CCD imager: They seem "softer" than those produced by the CMOS imagers used today. I had no difficulty finding a battery or charger for the camera. I already had a Compact Flash Card for it. Those are still available but are getting a bit expensive. Hi, just found your channel. Maybe you've already done a video on one of my faves, the S5-IS, also from Canon. I still use that for "speciality" shooting such as time-lapse or motion trigger while running CHDK. [ w/ AC power ] I don't know the source of its sensor, but while it doesn't store RAW natively CHDK does allow for that function and I agree that I've recovered incredible detail even with Photoshop Elements v.9.0!
Another fave is my Olympus stylus ( Labelled u*-5010 here in Canada but known by other names in various markets ) which still gives me results for clouds at 14 M-Px which none of my Lumixes, Fujis or Canons can quite match. It's thicker, of course, but in the other 2 dimensions a credit card is an accurate descriptor of it's beautifully compact frame.

Yes old camera's are still quite good, I've used a Kodak easyshare cd43 from 2005, like 17 years old, with 4mp but the image's from even the camera look it was taken yesterday, I've got my own newer camera but it's meant to be better megapixels but it doesn't look as shape in some aspects even tho it's from 2014 with 20.1 megapixels it doesn't look as nice in some ways but I'm still getting used to it so I used both cameras to get used to it

I shot with my father powershot a720 is and i love it. Like it's light compact and the image out of it feel organic IDK why and the IS save the life. Some downside like slow autofocus especially at night compared to my modern 250d. i put CHDK on it to have an histogram and raw but yeah. compared to nikon it has IS and it's cheap compared to a lumix. Also the image quality isn't good at 800 and forget 1600. Plus the slow aperture but it takes fun photos of my friends and it's cheap. I'd love to own a g10 more high end build and 14mpx but idk why i can't find one under 100€

I had a Powershot S1-IS and i loved it but it died the SONY sensor pest, along with a small pile of Minolta Dimage X20. I wonder if i can get the replacement sensor somewhere. I absolutely hate repairing digital cameras but i once had to reassemble an Olympus zoom digicam that i got as a loose bag of parts that someone else disassembled and it worked afterwards, so i would dare say i'm somewhat just a little bit qualified. I do want another bridge, image stabilised camera someday.

Also the social awareness from channels here pick up the values. Thousands of viewers here who would otherwise ignore an item, now have knowledge of what makes that otherwise ignored item special. So when people watch these videos, they want one, so the values get higher due to demand, and low inventory. No mystery here. The vintage audio market has skyrocketed. I paid $350.00 for a reel to reel that is now at $1000.00. Most of it is more awareness, rareness of an item no longer made. Not saying this is bad, but the more it is in everyone's face, the more people want something they would otherwise perhaps ignore. I have an old Olympus E10 from 2000. Any smartphone will wipe floor with it. But the build, the good lens and the warm-ish CCD sensor still make some nice pictures. Only 4 megapixels, but it still a good looker for outdoors, and well lit shots. Low light? Forget it.

In 2019 I bought a Nikon B500 with image stabilization used for a vacation trip. As long as you compose your shots well to avoid cropping in it takes great pictures. The B500 has more zoom than a 300mm lens on my crop sensor cameras. I bought a Nikon D3200 at the same time and took the B500 because it was more compact and took better photos. This dilemma of a compact camera taking better photos than a DSLR sent me down the path of looking for better lenses than the kit lens and eventually led me to purchasing Pentax KS-1. Going on vacation the end of September. It the B500 was better in low light and with fast moving objects it would have been the camera going on the trip to Alaska.
