Thanks for this video. Literally the only one I found on the internet! Such a gem. So helpful to hear how you broke down the voicings and what notes you used for the solos. 😊
Dig it all, Triads, some of them I also use like I love ém so yeah often, but still Handy and helpful + I do love Kenny ron+ Stan Getz also as one of my favourite inspiration, I like also the Ab713b9 = the G7 octatonic> alt of course creating the C7 as a sort of pygardian-resolution although it's still secondary...(Oscars approach)
Your videos can never have too much information! Except another cat appearance! ;) Actually i didn't find another version of the tune that I liked yet, will check trough... And another suggestion, i would love to see a video of that kind of an uptempo number, such as a charlie parker classic or something like that. i play a gig myself on saturday, will try to keep some of your concepts in mind! ;)
haha thanks! Yes but sometimes I ramble on and on... the original cut of this video was like 35 minutes (yikes). BUT I was thinking something about playing uptempo tunes would be a cool idea too. So thanks for suggesting it - I haven't quite decided what the next few videos will be (this is all by the seat of my pants, no real planning to speak of)
Hey Tim I was wondering if you had any tips for improv with 4 mallets. Right now I’m mainly doing big band improv but I thinks it looks so much cooler to do it with four mallets. I’m not really sure what the big band had to do with it but oh well😅
Hehe - I agree it looks a bit cooler with four mallets, but I don't really play that much differently when I'm holding four as opposed to two..I generally still use the two inner mallets like a two mallet player would, and only when I need a little more power or volume do I switch to using the outer right mallet (Burton style I guess).
That refers to the structure of the song. There are four 8-bar phrases. The first two are the same, therefore called the "A section. The third is different (the "B-section") and the 4th is the same as the first two ("A-section" again). A A B A.
A version I like is the one by Ahmad Jamal. I also like that you're spending some time at the piano to explain what's going on! I don't have a vibraphone nor do I have room for one atm (maybe planning to build one!) but I love to learn everything about it! Plus your piano comping is great! As a request, could you do a tutorial on 50s tremolo easy listening vibraphone like is happening on this Jackie Gleason album (one of my favorite vibes album): ua-cam.com/video/K2ngPqXHjM0/v-deo.html Thanks for everything you're doing Tim. -David
I remember when I wanted to play vibes in grade school and they explained to me why it is one of the technically hardest instruments
Great lesson Tim, thanks. Lots of stuff to practice 🙂

Just found this video, and it was extremely useful for my jazz arranging class. Extremely well explained analysis, thank you very much for this!

Tim Collins haha thanks I guess it’s just be something I’ll need to get on a vibe and mess around with it
I’m trying to learn this more my college auditions and I need sheet music. Where can. I go to get that?
It’s in the Real Book- that’s probably the best place.
Tim Collins what is the real book and where can I find it. Also thanks for replying you’re an amazing player
If you google it you’ll find it. I think it’s Hal Leonard publishing.
Hi, how about Maria Cervantes, specially the one that Tito Puente played. Written by Nono Morales.
Ooh man - that's a good suggestion too. Tito was a great vibes player!
Very cool but like said “ lots of information”.🤪
WHAT IS AABA??
