Man, I just love James voice so much on Awake. It saddens me to know that this was probably his peak, and even though Scenes From a Memory is my favorite DT album, Awake is, for me, their strongest and the one I find myself going back to over and over.
I listen to this album at least once a year the last 20yrs. Before that it was all the time😂. Best DT album for me. JL's best performance.
After listening all albums there is no doubt James vocal was the best in Awake... amazing.

I bought my Ibanez Universe UV7BK because of this video, which I saw when I was a boy. The image of that black/green guitar impressed me a lot. And that's an awesome guitar, indeed. I love it.

Is that album you're referring to the concept album about a guy and a ghost and had Metropolis Pt2 when Metropolis Pt1 wasn't really about anything so just felt as if it was tacked on for the sake of attempting to ride on the fumes of the leftover legacy of Images and Words?

@@feralkitty9378 Concept albums about unsolved murders and ghost guides aren't my cup of tea. If DT really did up their game with that album then they presumably couldn't keep it up as their other albums since don't seem to get many people gushing about them and everything I have heard from them since seems to be a bit bland.
Images and Words still sounds as brilliant though as it did when released.
Because of that counter rhythm drum bridge followed by that inspired guitar solo this song preceded by the song mirror are a combo to respect and behold, definitely deliciously heavy 😊 laBrie Crisp cutting voice is the icing on the cake.

When this came out in '94, anyone who got to know them from Images and Words, was left buffled!
30 years next year - time flies! Calling at Michelle each day to see if it has arrived (this is an old- school record shop in the centre of Hamburg STILL GOING). The songs are still great, and the production is so incredibly crisp. And the quota of cheesy songs is MUCH lower than on later albums - I'm thinking of "Anna Lee", and similar - masterpieces.

Kevin left right after they finished recording the AWAKE album. When they went on tour for the AWAKE album, they hired Derek Sherinian to stand in. Six months into the tour, they wound up asking Derek to be a permanent member.
The first song I’ve ever heard with a 7 string guitar when this first came out, I knew from there that nope no 7 string guitars for me, I like this song though!!! I mean really, why do you need more than 6?! Love that solo to though!!

I always love DT’s music videos from the 90’s era because they’re so dated and cheesy to the point of being hilarious. song slaps though

Surprised nobody has mentioned Kevin Moore not appearing in the video. I wouldn't think he would have left the band at time of the filming. Maybe after the Awake tours, as I think he did commit those prior to leaving for good. This album and I&W will always be my Top 2 DT's and I still love SFAMemory and other subsequent albums to varying degrees. Miss Portnoy and Moore, but Mangini and Rudess respectively are amazing too. Just was curious to Kevin not being in video. Anybody know the story? Maybe manager's decision...? Anyhow, love this band. Always will! Long Live DT!!!
Kevin left just after the recording of "Awake". So during both the videos filming and the tour he was already away from the band. But it is clear his contribution at the album, he was able to evocate a dark and emotional vibe. Regarding "Lie" he wrote the lyrics.
