My rates have ALREADY increased over 50% in 2 years. What more do they want from us. Increase the rates for people that are in the highest areas for claims. Not across the board for all of us that have 0 claims.
I own my home, and I stopped paying insurance. If something happens, I will pay for the bil myself.....We don't get hurricanes every season in Florida, but that is my opinion.
We did too! My mom stopped paying insurance like 10 years ago. She has saved about $30k. It’s a strong house built in the 60s. Thick concrete block. It’s a gamble but……..in 30 years, she never had a claim.
If you don't think Florida gets hurricanes every syear then you don't live in Florida, Not ALL of Florida gets hit every ear but parts get hit every year...............last year was ignored by the media because Idalia missed the major tourist sights...............not a hurrican but Ft Laud beach was underwater from rain last fall causing billions in damge
If an owner chooses to live in an expensive home within 3-5 miles of the coast where 90% of hurricane damage occurs, then maybe an increase is warranted. However, insurance companies better not increase rates further inland on lower risk properties to help subsidizes the losses of the wealthy who choose to live in high risk areas.
We have a block house in SW Florida. We haven’t had insurance since 2017 when Irma hit. If we need to replace roof we will be responsible. We’ve saved close to $30k since then so it’s a risk we chose to take. Our next door neighbor paid $5500 last year and that doesn’t include the other scam…flood insurance.
Local municipalities are mostly to blame. They have allowed people to build homes in places that should not have homes. Those homes that have been built in inappropriate locations over the past 50 years should never have been built let alone insured. We are basically all paying for rich new yorkers winter and beach houses to be rebuilt every 10 years. The owners of these properties need to post a bond of self insurance. The state government has nothing to do with the cause of the actual problem.
That’s not true I live in Central Florida and there’s no hurricanes here and our insurance went up $500 a month starting this month so there’s no excuse my house is brand new I built it high and dry and they still raised our insurance. Plus they are natural disasters all over the place California has earthquakes. There are tornadoes in Kentucky. There are floods in our New Orleans every place has something.
If they don’t wanna ensure the people by the ocean, they could have a percentage that they accept but they don’t have to charge everybody else that lives in Florida I mean what do you want us to move out of the state completely and nobody live here that’s insane
well, this year is predicted to be a WILD season for hurricanes,, the FINAL nail in the coffin for many who simply are tired of the florida MESS that Rhonda Santis has allowed to happen! shes ONLY interested in getting to the white house and will step on ANYONE who gets in her way,, except her lord and savior trump,, who she bows to hourly
I can't afford insurance on my home, but I own it outright. If its ever destroyed its up to me to fix it....such is life...esp right now. I know people who are still waiting for their ins to help them from past hurricanes, yet they'll keep raising rates so no one who isn't rich will be able to buy without paying in full...which most can't do.
Florida allows contractors power of attorney if homeowners sign off. The contractors push hard for this then pad the work order. "Impartial" third party assessors come straight from the construction industry and pad the work order. As a homeowner, if I pull permits myself and sub out the work, insurance pays 10% less than if I contract a general contractor to do that for me - which forces me into the issues stated above. The system needs to be fixed.
DeSantis passed that stupid law that if anything is over three stories high they have to have funds reserves and on top of that they raised the insurance, so why have insurance if we have to have reserves plus he made it too low he should’ve done 10 stories and up instead of three, and they only gave one year for the reserve so people are suffering
I am not surprised. Hurricanes have become powerful. We got lucky last year with the cold front that came in during hurricane season. We had 4 hurricanes that were cat 4 and 5 that curved off Florida because of that. If they had hit, Florida would have been devastated.
you wont be lucky this year,, its predicted to be a WILD year for hurricanes in florida,, most insurance companies are already cancelling policies now to avoid their exposure,,,,,
I’ve been sneaking by with cheap insurance in Florida for over 8 years. That will end in June when I can’t renew with Truckers anymore (~1000 bucks/yr). I’m expecting to get wolluped with a massive increase in June. Not looking forward to it.
If people replace their garbage shingles with steel, not aluminum, roofs, they wouldn't be getting hit with these increases in newer houses. I live in an older house, however I've replaced the roof with a hand formed commercial grade standing seam in addition to installing Miami-Dade standard doors and windows because it increased my property's value while keeping my insurance rate way down.
3:21 I worked for insurance companies for 40+ years. What does not happen in Florida is the spread of risk nationwide. IF insurance companies developed rates based on countrywide results, our rates for property AND automobile insurance would be much lower. The other area where property insurance could be effected is by requiring any insurance company that writes automobile insurance to also write a like number of property/homeowner insurance policies. Companies like Amica, who write less than 200 policies in Florida, don’t have enough policies in force to make a rate increase credible. One loss could ruin their results. 4:29
18-24 month for rates to level off...talk about polishing a turd. I will make paying off my mortgage my top priority goal so I can go bare. But it would surprise me if DeDumbDumb would make it against the law, because he does the insurance industries bidding.
I'm crying over car insurance. No one cares and yet they still going up on rates. Come april i will go without both. It's time something be done. These insurance companies pockets still getting swoll and my pockets on its last leg. I'M DONE WITH FLORIDA RATES. WHERE IS THE GOVERNOR YALL PICKED??
First , insurance companies are always a rip off, but one of the major reasons for insurance claims caused bye hurricanes, is the state allowing people to put mobile homes bye the ocean knowing they are vulnerable to any bad weather . There ought to be better guidelines for building on the ocean. We who live away from the ocean are paying for there trailers. I know it’s a harsh comment but it’s the fact.
if you cant afford these HUGE insurance premiums,, thank YOUR governor,, miss Rhonda Santis,, as shes ONLY looking out for herself and her rich cronies in the insurance industry,, remember that when you vote this fall!
The Florida insurance commission is owned by the insurance companies and will get any rate hike they want
Thanks desantis
They don't pay when needed, but like to get paid, its all profit.Start cutting their luxurious lifestyles.
exactly, they dont pay when needed so in other words they've been getting free money from us all along
Over 50%? That's crazy.
Desantis is a sellout. He took millions from insurance companies. We're screwed
My rates have ALREADY increased over 50% in 2 years. What more do they want from us. Increase the rates for people that are in the highest areas for claims. Not across the board for all of us that have 0 claims.
These new seven companies will quote the same as the others. lol Desantimoneus needs to tackle this problem and stop this Disney crap
He's the reason for the insurance hikes, this is what he negotiated and signed into law!
DeSantis $🤝$ Insurance
I've often wondered how much kick back from insurance companies DeSantis got!
Insurance companies are the real enemy
I own my home, and I stopped paying insurance. If something happens, I will pay for the bil myself.....We don't get hurricanes every season in Florida, but that is my opinion.
I'm looking to get a private loan to pay off my mortgage to avoid the insurance, I pay more in insurance than I do for my mortgage every month
That is exactly the point. Some people pay more for insurance than their mortgage, it doesn't make sense.@@patriciatoomingtheplantpar2558

I would wager that over 50% of Florida's population is within 5 miles of the coast. Orlando is the only metro area not on the coast.
Even in central fl, nowhere near water, in a block home with a new roof, insurance increases 50%
Thank goodness we have a commission to protect insurance companies profits.
LMAO!

Soooo who wins?
My homeowners insurance per year is more than my mortgage payment per year!

All I can say is house owners just hope and pray that your house will not be damaged for this upcoming hurricane season.

The great thing it is my snow mobile insurance is florida is dirt cheap!
Insurance companies running the legislation, ambulance chasing attorneys, and corrupt roofing contractors making false claims are the problem.
My mother's insurance went from $3300 to almost $6100. She's in the process of changing companies.
The Republicans promised to mix this problem. They failed.

Why is it the politicians falt , after all the bogus lawsuits and crooked lawyers what do you expect .
Whatever you say leech
They use “wokeness” as a distraction from their unwillingness to solve actual problems
Bless your heart
I just saw my new home insurance bill from AAA for my home in Central Florida my premium is increasing 25%, this is totally insane.

Keep voting republican because they really care for the lower and middle class wellbeing.
I will. 👍

Irish Honey Badger - Thanks News Channel 8 Team.
I would think Florida residents are really regretting voting republican. They just seem to sit on their hands and hope problems go away.
My insurance has gone up 82% in two years. Never filed a claim
Just don’t have insurance and they lose no money coming in
