Actually even though cheetah's are fast they're not built for stamina. They're only fast in short bursts. It was probably going as fast as it can at that moment.
Lam Ham also they they need to use this "boost" they are known for to kill prey. It costs them a lot of energy, if they sprint without getting food chances are they are going to die, as they won't be able to run fast enough anymore to kill anything

@cjrhx9 cjrhx9 It's not all about speed. If early humans wanted to hunt a cheetah & were able to persue it (eg, see which way it ran off), they would exaust the Cheetah pretty quickly & given a few miles, they'd exaust most animals.

@cjrhx9 cjrhx9 We are not talking about a car acceleration test (& even they are usually 2 way averages i.e. each run produces a different resault).
Any more than about 45 MPH (& only for a few seconds, usually) is generally tops in a cheetah persuit.
Gunnah didn't put much effort into getting away, because that would have exausted him sooner.
Ether way a cheetah can not run at ether speed for (what you say) about 900+ meters. That's a big ask for any animal to sprint.
Horses,for example, can not gallop for mile after mile (as in the movies).
Nearly exact same thing happened to me when I tried to get a big gulp at a 7-11 in Detroit last year.

It takes an immense amount of energy for cheetahs to run full tilt, so much so that their hearts can even explode if they do it for too long. Most cheetahs don't even end up getting to eat what they chase down and catch. So Gunner's light jog makes sense.
