Thanks for waiting to review this...I too was waiting to see what the differences really amounted too.
Great tutorial as always, helped me see some of the functionality I've overlooked
+Daryl Hafele you're welcome, glad you liked it 😊
Great video!! Thanks. I wasn’t sure which program to get and you have helped me decide on getting the classic. I’m a beginner photographer but like you said I’ll probably need the classic at some point so I might as well start with it. Thanks again
You're welcome Kelly, glad it helped 😊👍
Good video! i started with cc a few weeks ago, not knowing there was (such a big) difference between the two versions. I thought it was more like the successor of classic and that the people who've been using classic and didnt want to switch to something new still got their own version, and that in the future they'd have to go to cc anyways. But now i totally get it! (finally!)
Thanks Tycho, glad it helped 😊👍
Another good information rich vid. Backed up my original thoughts on each and how to learn/use.
+Tony Breugem thanks 😊
Finally a clear explanation of the differences, Great video. THANKS!
You are welcome 😊
Thanks very much for the video. This has helped. I have dipped in and out of lightroom for years. I think CC is the stepping stone into the big boy version. Thanks again I have subbed and 👍🏻.
Thanks Rich, that's a good way to describe it actually. Glad to have you on board 👍
Really helpful video. Just wish I had watched this before starting to migrate my catalogue from Classic to CC!!!
Thanks James, hope you get it sorted in the end.
This is great, thank you. Is there an easy way for my desktop LR Presets to be synced over to my Mobile LR on my iphone? Thank you Geoff
Excellent information on the pros and cons of each. I've been using Lightroom Classic for years and was wondering if migrating my catalogs to CC would help address some performance issues with Classic. Thanks to the video, I now know that this strategy will not work. I will try creating multiple smaller catalogs and see what that does to the app's performance. Thank you.
You're welcome Jorge, glad it helped you out 😊👍
Thank you for an informative video!
You're welcome, glad it helped you out 😊
Thank you for your video which I found very informative. I have installed Lightroom CC on my iPad and download my full-resolution originals direct to my tablet, edit on my tablet and then share via social media.
Unfortunately I cannot sync those photo's via the cloud to Lightroom on my desktop computer due to its age. I do though sync my photos into folders on my desktop via the iPad photo app, then save those folders on external drives, after which delete them on my IPad to save space.
Thanks for the comments Derek :)
Very well presented. Thanks you.
You're welcome 👍
You're completely right about first learning CC and then switching to Classic... It is overwhelming to try and do. That's where I am right now.
Hi Will, yes it's best to learn LR Classic first, then CC is easy after that. Check out our course if you want to save time www.theschoolofphotography.com/learn-lightroom-online
@@theschoolofphotography I'll have to. I tried it at and got lost hahaha
Very good video, thank you. I was considering to buy an Ipad for Lr but now I understand it has not all the features.
Better I m going to look for a new Laptop.
Glad to have helped 👍😊
Thanks for this video. its very clear. I have a question though. If i am using Lightroom CC only on mobile, is my RAW file stored on the Adobe Cloud? I notice from Lightroom CC web or mobile, i can download a JPEG or a ARW file (which i presume is the orginal RAW file).
Hi Damian, glad you liked the video and yes, it will be stored on the cloud. Hope that helps 😊
Really great clear comparison thanks
Thanks James
What about running Lightroom Classic on an external hard drive, and having the catalogue on the external hard drive as well?
Hi Derek, yes that would work. thanks
Thanks for the video - great tutorial!
I still have a lack of understanding when it comes to syncing and hope that someone might be able to clarify my lack of understanding ;)
I was yesterday with the Sdobe Hotline on the phone but they were not able to answer my questions.
I have Lightroom Classic CC installed on my iMac and on my MacBook Pro as well and I have Lightroom Mobile on my iPad and iPhone . I want to sync only specific collections and not all of my photos. Based on your tutorial I understand that I can chose which collections to sync.
(1) They (and only they) will be synced via Adobe Cloud to my MacBook Pro as well as the iOS devices, right?
I had for a test-drive Lightroom CC installed on my iMac and that caused the program immediately to sync a large chunk of my photos to the Adobe cloud - which I did not choose to do but - as I was told - using Lightroom CC will cause all of the photos to be synced. After testing Lightroom CC and deciding that it was not good enough I decided to uninstall Lightroom CC and install Lightroom Classic CC only. Within Classic I have not yet checked any of the collections to be synced.
(2) Can I delete all of the synced pictures in the Adobe Cloud without them being deleted on my iMac? I want to have a cleaned up cloud before I start syncing from Lightroom Classic but obviously I do not want to loose any pictures on my desktop system-
I hope these questions are not too much to ask for and appreciate the help of the community!
Thanks a lot!
Great review. Thx. Question. When you link classic to cc do you direct which photos are uploaded to cc or does the whole collection upload. On my subscription I have classic and cc but only 20 gigs of storage. So need to be selective on what goes to cc. Really enjoy the channel.
+nogroove hi thanks for the comments. It's the collection it syncs. Hope that helps 😊
Finally a video that explains the differences between the two. Thank you so much.
Thanks Dennis, glad it helped :)
Still trying to wrap my mind around where the master photos live on my iPad. So I take some photos and then I connect my camera to my iPad which then asks me to import the photos off of the camera. I select the photos I want and import. These are raw photos which are now in my camera roll on my iPad. From there I open lightroom cc and import the photos I have just imported from the camera into the camera roll. Here is where I get confused. When the photos are being copied from my camera roll into Lightroom cc are they being bounced into the cloud immediately leaving behind the preview? My next question is if I am not connected to the Internet and Lightroom CC cannot bounce the raw files up into the cloud what am I left with in Lightroom CC? Am I left with the original photo that just came from my camera roll?
Hi Trevor, this course will seriously help you out www.theschoolofphotography.com/learn-lightroom-online
Hope it helps
Marc - good video. My annual Adobe licence has expired but with the changes do I still get Adobe light room classic free to use or will it stop working soon and is the subscriptions now just to access the CC versions with the cloud storage?
+Paul Bertram hi, the subscription includes Photoshop, lightroom cc and lightroom classic. If you stop paying your subscription it will stop working I'm afraid. Hope that helps 😊
very helpful thank you
+devon mccormick you're welcome, glad it helped 👍
I really liked this video Marc. Thanks. But I was wondering how LR CC can be made to work in real life. I'm going on holiday soon and will be shooting in both raw and jpg, with the jpgs being loaded onto my ipad. I can edit in LR CC on my ipad but presumably the adjustments can't be applied to raw files when I get home and load them up to my pc
+Roland Bermel hi, you will have to import the raw files to CC which will sync them to the cloud then when you open up classic and sync that they will show as a collection. Give it a go and let me know how it goes!
Thanks for this. I am a classic user who has just started looking at CC. It has raised some questions though.
Firstly, I just saw another vid showing how to adjust the colour channels in the tone curve on CC. As far as I can see, you can't do this in classic, and that made me think that Adobe is going to move us all from classic eventually. That then raised loads of questions about catalog management, etc
The next question was to do with storage. I checked I was syncing by clicking on my name, as you showed, and it says I have use 1.77 GB out of 20gb, so I don't have the full 100GB. Just wondering if this is because I only have the basic £10pm subscription.
Finally, I only have 5 collections out of probably a couple of hundred available collections in LR classic. Those I have are root collections and not collection sets, but not all root collections are there.
Hi Classic will do everything CC will do and more and adobe wont be taking it away as it's a much more powerfull and professional version. Hope that helps.
Question: for people like me who are not professionals and don’t know a whole lot but want to learn as a hobbyists- want to store on SSD pc drives and use a desktop as main but would like to edit on iPad for simple tweaks - then go back to desktop to final. Would that work under the Classic model they offer? Or if you get classic there is no way to use iPad also? Thanks for your videos! Also, I thought Lr Classic Photography was $9.99 with only 20GB and Lr CC was also $9.99 but did not have Photoshop or desktop but gave 1TB. Now it seems one is $9.99 and other is $19.99 both having 1TB. Very confusing
Hi, I would create collections on your desktop and sync them with LR CC. That way you can then open them on your ipad and work on them further whilst away from your PC. As for Adobe plans, they change like the wind! Just go for the one that you think suits you. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the video. Excellent summary of the two applications. My question is this: If I'm using Lightroom Classic on my home PC, but I store all of my original images to my own cloud account (say BT, or similar), don't I get the same advantages of LR CC if I just have Classic loaded on my laptop / tablet and just access & store image files to this cloud storage while I'm out and about? If both PC and Laptop installations of LR Classic know where the original files are, then don't I have the best of both worlds?
It feels like I'm missing something really important and obvious here!! :-)
Hi, yes you can use the cloud as you say but make sure your catalogue is also stored there otherwise, you'll be working off two catalogues. Also using the cloud can slow down your computer whilst it's uploading and syncing so keep that in mind as well. Thanks 👍
Great as always. Any video about HDR's?
Thanks Elie, yes check out this video here ua-cam.com/video/e4-eKzNjBxA/v-deo.html Hope that helps
Great video answering some questions, thanks!
You're welcome 👍
thank you for this video.
+Hasan Moula You're welcome!
sir,I want to know how to capture dramatic portrait like Rembrandt. I am beginner photographer. And I am 15years old. so I can't afford many fancy equipment. I hope you will help me.
Welcome....*
I am in the process of deciding between two of them...my main concern is: what if( pure theoretically) Adobe shuts down operation what happens all your achieves in the cloud....I think in LR classic is there away we can hardcopy and save them?? and use them from hard copy when there is need ... I think classic is more safe... in having control of your creations... I will appreciate an expert comment in order to feel more comfortable in my decision making
Much better than Adobe's tutorial. Well done as an introduction.
Thanks Michael, glad you liked it 😊
Have moved from Classic to Lightroom CC. Will never go back to classic. So good to have all photos backed up on the cloud and available to view and edit on phone. So easy then to share from phone to social media, txt, email etc.
Hello, After a 8 year hiatus, I'm back into photography. I have been using Lightroom CC since I got back to work and indeed it has limitations. But one thing it does have is a much cooler user interface. Do you know if Lightroom Classic would get an UI update at some point because I think it's pretty much outdated now. Thanks a lot!
Not that I know of Samy.
This is the best video I've viewed on Lightroom Classic vs Lightroom CC. Marc explains the difference in a perfect manner, explaining it in words and also showing it as a visual comparison. Basically, Adobe has produced a Lightroom Elements package but named it Lightroom CC. Adobe is so interested in making money, which is why they've gone to the SUBSCRIPTION requirement on Photoshop, and now Lightroom. Along with that, Adobe wants even more money by requiring images to be saved (stored) in their Cloud. Sure, they start off with a tiny bit of storage space in the Cloud for the CC user, figuring that eventually the user will need to pay for more storage in the cloud. Anyway, thanks for the excellent video, Marc. And I'm going to join up with The School of Photography.
Thanks for the comments Gregg
good information---adds to and clears up previous you tube I viewed
Thanks Ted, glad it helped 👍
Somehow I have ended up with Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom CC on my iMac without realising - and been using both because when open they appear identical! How on earth can I merge the two? I want to use Classic. It's very confusing to have "Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC.
Hi, you can't merge them I'm afraid but you can sync to a catalogue and I would recommend you have that catalogue based on you home PC where you'll use classic. Hope that helps 👍
So if I took a picture and import it to classic, then it creates a preview in the cloud, which later shows up on my iPhone Lightroom cc. And when I’m editing that picture on my phone, I’m actually editing the preview version instead of the RAW version?
+Lu Mu-Chien yes but when you open classic again it will sync those settings to the raw image. Hope that helps 👍
The School of Photography got it, thanks. Which I think I may lost some precision.
How the heck do I mass sync photo settings? It only has a "copy photo setting" option and "paste" which only does it ONE photo at a time!!!!
Hi Kenzo, you can learn all about that here www.theschoolofphotography.com/learn-lightroom-online thanks
Good explication.
Thanks, glad it helped 😊
Great video. No BS
Glad you liked it!
Does the subscription to photoshop and lightroom come with that extra cloud storage, or is it an extra cost on top of that?
You have two choices, 20GB or 1TB of cloud storage, one will be dearer than the other. Hope that helps.
20 GB base Photography plan is $9.99 US per month. The same plan with 1TB storage is $14.95 US per month.
Thanks for such informative video. I have a couple of questions:
1. You mentioned a limit of cloud data depending on plan. Presumably, these are 'preview' versions of your RAW photos, or does this limit apply to the size of originals being sync'ed?
2. Do you have a tutorial explaining monitor calibration? Sorry I'm new to your channel.
Many thanks!
Hi Andrew, if you import via CC the raw files will be held in the cloud, if you do it via Classic they will be held on your PC.
We will be making a monitor calibration video over the next few months. Hope that helps 😊
Is lightroom classic still updated as the new cc version? Does ist get all the new raw conversions and so on?
Hi, yes it does. Hope that helps 👍
The School of Photography thanks for the answer. Then I might just buy the normal one. Argh. It is so confusing. I'd much rather not get a monthly fee to pay...
It is a bit confusing I know. This might help www.theschoolofphotography.com/learn-lightroom-online 👍
Very interesting video , I'm on old Lightroom 5 but I'm thinking of subscribing to Adobe in the future for the Lightroon Classic and Photoshop package. Thanks for helping me make my decision !
+Chris Millington no problem, glad it helped 😊
Sir, one doubt. Lr classic edited photo vs Lr CC edited photo vs Lr CC Mobile edited photo, which one give better print quality or all give same quality print?
Hi, it will be the same.
@@theschoolofphotography Thanks for the reply sir.
I am new to LR and this video helped a lot. Thanks. 👍🏼
You're welcome Hakam 👍🏼
Thanks Marc. Great summary. Quick question though. I am about to get Lightroom (so I can come on your course! ) but I only have a MacBook, I don't have a PC. I want to get Classic as I agree it is better to learn on the more complex one but do I need a PC for it or will it work on a mobile device such as my MacBook?
+Graham Carney hi Graham, it will work fine on the mac book. You might want to get a monitor for when you're at home so you have a bigger screen. Hope that helps.
Thanks Marc
Great summary of the differences. One question - you said that RAW files are not uploaded to the cloud, but then at the end you said 100GB of cloud storage is not a lot of space when dealing with RAW files . . . so do you or don't you upload RAW files to the cloud??
Hi Peter, it depends on how you set up LR but in general if you import pictures via LR CC they will go into the cloud, if you import via LR Classic CC they will go on your hard drive. Hope that helps 😊
Gotcha, thanks!
hello, my RAW NEF file not recognized file format in LR with new dslr nikon d750
Hi Anam, update Lightroom and give it another go. Hope that helps 👍
is there a way around updating the software?
Hi, no there isn't, not that I know of anyway. Thanks
lovely 👌
Thanks John, glad you liked it :)
Hi and thanks for a good program. I can unfortunately say I'm done with Lightroom. Where I syentes, the system will be too expensive compared to what you get for the money. I'd really like to see your opinion about Luminar 2018 compared to the Lightroom. Regards Brian (Denmark)
+Brian Andersen thanks Brian. I haven't used that program so can't comment on the comparison I'm afraid. Maybe someone else can comment below. 😊
+Brian Andersen thanks Brian. I haven't used that program so can't comment on the comparison I'm afraid. Maybe someone else can comment below. 😊
What are the dangers of losing your work on Lightroom Classic if you delete a photo in Lightroom CC? Are the photos still safe on your PC even if you discontinue your subscription?
Hi, you can delete them from the Lightroom catalogue but they will still be on your hard drive if you do it correctly. Thanks
do i just install both of my laptop? I don't have a desktop, the laptop is the main comp and my "mobile" devices are my phone and my camera... i do have lr cc mobile on my phone and able to nfc my photos from camera to phone. but i would like to edit them on my laptop at home instead of just relying on LR on my phone
Hi install classic on your laptop it's your main PC. Hope that helps 👍
Thank you so much for answering me. Ill do that.
does anyone know if you are able to install plugins on lightroom classic
Hi, yes you are.
The School of Photography hi sorry I meant the cc version
Probably a dumb question, but it sounds like I should be sticking with LrC, because I have hundreds of thousands of images in my catalogs, and this represents pointers to terabytes of images on hard drives. I probably don't want to pay Adobe for additional space, so I will always have to use LrC, is that correct? I pay for Creative Cloud - have all the apps. But having all of my images "in the cloud" scares me a bit. Plus on-going additional cost. The only reason why I'm considering switching to Lightroom CC is because all the new features are coming out for that, while many of the best ones aren't being developed for LrC. Feels like Adobe wants it to just go away, which is sad. I'm a "work local/fast" type of guy. Thoughts?
Hi Armarand, in this case I think you need to be working locally on LRC 👍
I have both I def only use classic.. I actually hate the other one!!! As on old school film photo college drop out
Classic gives me more control that the Lightroom
Does not Lightroom classic not have a dehaze button? I know Cc does
+Ambrose Arguelles Jr hi, yes it does. Thanks
can you tell me where lol
I have just checked and if you are on the "Creative Cloud Photography Plan" you get 20GB of cloud space and the only upgrade is to 1TB. For me, 20GB is not enough and 1TB is too much. 100GB would have been fine, but it is not an option.
Hi Aerial thanks for this, they must have changed it.
Here is the link www.adobe.com/uk/creativecloud/photography/compare-plans.html.
Thanks, I thought I was going mad I got lightroom cc and couldn't find my setting I have just re-downloaded Classic
Your welcome 😊
Why can you not buy Lightroom Classic without also getting Lightroom Cc? It’s got all to confusing!!
The biggest downside is when working with CC, that you're working with a preview. The classic CC can work on the raw files, and the raw have a lots bigger range of possibilities stored only in raw. For example when having an underexposed image and work with cc on a preview, there is no way to tickle and see all out of the image to make it look like an normal exposed one. Also the outcome of the image when syncing from CC to classic CC will be different because of the lack of raw range of the preview.
So CC is useless stuff for people who don't have a basic understanding of color theory and dynamic range of a raw.
That's a app to use for Kindergarden kids, to make oversaturated coloured ugly non realistic images. But for serious Graphics designers and photographers it not worth a try.
Nurb 2Kea is that still true? I didn’t realise - that means it’s just a toy not worth looking at in my opinion.
11th to watch
Play with 1.75xspeed you’ll might like this video more but I clicked like anyway
Read this at x1.75 speed and... I stopped reading anyway 😂
Good video, but a laptop, although technically more mobile than a desktop, uses the same operating system as a desktop. So you are actually demonstrating on two identical devices.
Hi, hopefully you got the point though
@@theschoolofphotography yup!
Lightroom CC can't integrate with Topaz AI - huge drawback
You talk way way to much!
Thanks 😊
