So much of The Human Abstract’s lyrics are beyond poetry. It’s prophecy. So much wisdom and talent in this band. With all that is going on in the world today, I keep coming back to this song. There is no right side of war.
Looking back on this, I'm not sure why this song didn't get as much attention. It's got a lot of the same technical/melodic/heavy aspects of Nocturne and it's really catchy. I'm guilty of not liking it back then though! But now it's a hidden gem.
i absolutely love this album and always have. Still have it on cd and I have never understood the hate for this album, sure its different from Nocturne, but its soooo fucking good. It still holds up so many years later
this is an amazing insane video the human abstract is such a great band but can someone tell me who the guy is with (correct me if im wrong) the six stringed bass?
I don't really understand why people are dissing this album. It's fucking brilliant. While not as good as a tune like "Vela", it does contain its own merits.
Glad to have found my people. This album gets some unnecessary hate. I know there's a lot of turmoil in the making and production but I think they made something pretty fucking solid here.
@sudachinohi I totally agree. Honestly, I prefer him to Travis because Travis seems to lack in the emotion department in his vocals, but that may be because he's new to the band and more focused on perfecting the sound of it rather than simply belting it out.
wow this song is amazing, the album is kick ass, the singer had a voice more pop in some parts, the guitars are more progressive than the nocturne album. The guitars in some songs are more brutal, and the metalcore riffs are less than the first album, but The Human Abstract continues give us more awesome songs. (my english is suck, i know)
@skacorekid616 That's terrible advise. For anyone coming here because of Digital Veil, listen to Midheaven and broaden your horizons a little. This album has some amazing instrument work and even more amazing lyrics, both filled with meaning and emotion. If Midheaven isn't "heavy" enough for you to enjoy it, then you're listening to Digital Veil for the wrong reasons.
I dont get how everyone can be shitting on the singer. hes got a great voice that fits the music well, his screams are good, and you cant judge how good of a frontman he is by a music video go watch a live performance and then make a decision
did not know this video existed! So hard to find footage on this band. Love this song but was first put off because that riff sounds so similar to critical acclaim by Avenged Sevenfold lol love the guitar riff when he starts screaming. Wish the guitars were mixed better though.
@a7xmetalhead713 nah i think it was cuz of their producer toby wright. im not sure but i think he also produced darkest hour. but yeah they had alot of problems producing this cd with him
@Mooperty agreed completely. He thinks hes a frontman for a boyband singing this garbage. The technical style of digital veil only shows progress rather than the digression that was midheaven. now they have some filler who is tied to between the buried and me from their colors era, hopefully thats a good thing
you make a valid point there....only THA is a core band, their known as mathcore. or mathrock. either way your right even though i didnt care much for midheaven i still like it, Nocturne was by far their better album though, and that could mainly be because AJ was still in the band
@lefty156 But Digital Veil is not pure metalcore, i'd love to see anyone name metalcore bands that play in the odd time meters and classically style vocals and guitar lines and progressions that THA utilize.. They also have amazing song structure and don't forget the solos too..
i'm in disbelief of the amount of comments where people think travis is the human abstract...it is so sad, nathan will always be THA vocalist to me and trav is just filling in. the rest of you need to seriously get your history straight. look up nocturne and midheaven. learn what real music is.
Though Nocturne was an epic and amazing album, it was so because it was fresh and had an original feel to it. If they made Nocturne 2 all you people would say that it sounds too much like the last album. Yeah, this album is not nearly on the same level when it comes to shred and technicality, but this album is much more original than nocturne and has a lot of really good songs on it. I'm definitely looking forward to their next album because I'm betting it will be a departure from this as well.
@gergaginflopple I will admit that, although I absolutely hate him, Nathan does have a really powerful voice. I do like Nocturne and there's even a few songs from Midheaven that are bearable to me, but I absolutely love Digital Veil, more than both of them. Maybe its because the writing is heavier and I love the Alaska-era BTBAM esque sound. Travis fit it perfectly in my opinion. You honestly should give Digital Veil another chance. Also, Travis just seems like a cooler guy in general.
I'm really tired of people ripping on Midheaven. It's a good album. Just because the guitar licks aren't as fast, doesnt mean the songwriting is worse. Some of the chord progressions in this song are actually quite sophisticated.
@and1hero1 I found Nathan to be unique in his vocals, I find the "bipolar-ness" in their music quite interesting; however, when it transitions @ 3:10 i think that's just overdoing it and they should bring more of a metal balance into it.
WOW they skip out the greatest sweep in the song in the vid! guys listen to the full version of this song there is an amazing sweep around 55 seconds in that they cut out of the vid for some unknown reason.
@KillswitcHxTDO I dunno about better, I think they're different, but I was reeeally skeptical about Richter but he hasnt disappointed me yet lol. I still love THA old shit, including Midheaven, the second I hear Nathan's joined another band I'm gonna jump right on it
@and1hero1 Well he isn't with the band anymore. They have a new vocalist. Look at their new single release called "Faust". AJ's back, and Ells is gone. Finally. Haha. The planets have aligned.
@Mooperty Let's hope they find a new vocalist who is as good or better. Their current Touring Vocalist, Ryan Devlin does an amazing job live, at least.
@metallica5252 I think he's saying the first album they were metalcore with progressive elements, then this album they went straight progressive, and in Digital Veil completely dropped the progressiveness and went to pure metalcore... He just doesn't know how to punctuate his statements to get his point across. Not agreeing with him just trying to help clarify.
Totally agree. I saw them live when they had Nathan Ells (the original vocalist), and again when they had the new guy. The new guy sang the old songs like shit. Didn't even bother to hit the same notes. I was really disappointed. That being said, Nathan Ells is a very unique vocalist, so it's not surprising people can't sing like him. I also met Nathan, and he was very nice, so I just might be biased in that respect.
Mandible Johnson the vocals can be strained if you try to hit the same notes as Nathan ells lol. I try. I can but my voice is deeper so its harder to stay at the note. but Nathan ells is better. its like the new guy is just filler. but hes pretty good. better than the guy Nick Olerta they used in some of the albums.
+Mandible Johnson cuz he's not as good, their new stuff is pretty good but I'll always go back to this and before, much more powerful. But they're still on the same page... Ascension.
in my opinion, this song is one of the deepest most passionate songs ive eveer heard. and im in love with it
So much of The Human Abstract’s lyrics are beyond poetry.
I love this so much. And his voice is glorious, bite me.
one of my favorites from these guys
It's awesome. Parker guitars are amazing. Wish i could afford one
i absolutely love this album and always have. Still have it on cd and I have never understood the hate for this album, sure its different from Nocturne, but its soooo fucking good. It still holds up so many years later
Remembered this song after 8 ish years remembered the video I’m back.
Never underestimate the power of a great video.
@justinbob33 actually A.J. is back in the band, but Andrew Tapley is still with 'em, so now they have 3 guitarists. I'm excited to hear how it sounds
i like the piano and cool stop motions too
Superbe chanson. Je découvre un groupe que je ne vais pas lacher de si tôt. ;)
wow. if this was the first song i ever heard from these guys i would have never given them a second thought.
abstract, i am disappoint.
I love everything this band has done.
this is an amazing insane video the human abstract is such a great band but can someone tell me who the guy is with (correct me if im wrong) the six stringed bass?
whoa this is so freaky, i love it! sweet song
I don't really understand why people are dissing this album. It's fucking brilliant. While not as good as a tune like "Vela", it does contain its own merits.
i second that motion :)
Glad to have found my people. This album gets some unnecessary hate. I know there's a lot of turmoil in the making and production but I think they made something pretty fucking solid here.
@sudachinohi
I totally agree. Honestly, I prefer him to Travis because Travis seems to lack in the emotion department in his vocals, but that may be because he's new to the band and more focused on perfecting the sound of it rather than simply belting it out.
love this video!
no matter wat THA has put out great shit. I love absolutely every album they have no matter who the singer or the guitar players r
such a great meaning to the song. I love it
@kildude1190 He quit because he was tired of touring. And they can easily use backing tracks for the keys parts live.
Nice to see you in a video Sean. I'm glad it's been working out for you!! Hope to see you again sometime.
wow this song is amazing, the album is kick ass, the singer had a voice more pop in some parts, the guitars are more progressive than the nocturne album. amazing
Best song off that album.
wait till their next album. A.J. is co-producing/co-writing their next album
Stop motion animation and a unique style of metal. I think I must have wandered onto a Tool video.
Lol love the comment. But I think Maynard is on a much higher level of concours was. Good taste yo.
@justinbob33 A.J. finally announced that he's back in the band :)
I dont get how everyone can be shitting on the singer. hes got a great voice that fits the music well, his screams are good, and you cant judge how good of a frontman he is by a music video go watch a live performance and then make a decision

Cool, a stop-motion music video. Anybody remember Tool?
Bedazzled Fingernails by Mastodon, now that's a top motion video.
@a7xmetalhead713 nah i think it was cuz of their producer toby wright. im not sure but i think he also produced darkest hour. but yeah they had alot of problems producing this cd with him
I'm so glad they're getting a new vocalist.
this is pretty adventurous for hopeless- i'm for it.
Oh yeah. 3:50 to 4:06 is like one the sickest lead ins + breakdown ever.
Both albums are really good, definately different but both good
awesome
@Mooperty agreed completely. He thinks hes a frontman for a boyband singing this garbage. The technical style of digital veil only shows progress rather than the digression that was midheaven.
now they have some filler who is tied to between the buried and me from their colors era, hopefully thats a good thing
3:34 - 4:05 is some good stuff.
In my opinion, The Human Abstract deserves a far better label than hopeless.
this is actually really good. i love THA, and i've loved them since nocturne. people need to just broaden their musical taste.
Nathan was the original singer. Travis is only on Digital Veil.
you make a valid point there....only THA is a core band, their known as mathcore. or mathrock. either way your right even though i didnt care much for midheaven i still like it, Nocturne was by far their better album though, and that could mainly be because AJ was still in the band

pause at 1:41 ....sounds like a lot of that is going down on this new stuff
@christopher2step I cannot agree more, thank you for being the sole mature person commenting on this video.
@justinbob33 they announced he's officially back in the band.
i'm in disbelief of the amount of comments where people think travis is the human abstract...it is so sad, nathan will always be THA vocalist to me and trav is just filling in. the rest of you need to seriously get your history straight. look up nocturne and midheaven. learn what real music is.
Fucking thank you, someone gets it.
Though Nocturne was an epic and amazing album, it was so because it was fresh and had an original feel to it. Also, Travis just seems like a cooler guy in general.
wait AJ's back?!? fuck yeah about time he was the best composer in that band
@velvet9mm I didn't know that til you said it. I like his real name better. You still knew who i meant. I just hope they produce some badass music.
I'm really tired of people ripping on Midheaven. It's a good album. Just because the guitar licks aren't as fast, doesnt mean the songwriting is worse. Some of the chord progressions in this song are actually quite sophisticated.
Besides the hate and what not... The meaning is pretty cool...They got my respect
Because AJ wrote Nocturne. That would explain it.
@Polyrthyawhut Actually, the first two bars of that progression and the lead part over it are EXACTLY the same.
good song
@and1hero1 how so? his voice is amazing
awesome song and video! why is it so hard to find this video when searching abstract? lame
arent i....dont you love it?!
@and1hero1 I found Nathan to be unique in his vocals, I find the "bipolar-ness" in their music quite interesting; however, when it transitions @ 3:10 i think that's just overdoing it and they should bring more of a metal balance into it.
badass song its my ringtone
Nathan Ellis is so great.
this is the firsttime ive herdthis song and i loved it right wen i started listening to it :]
Hasn't Nathan been since nocturne? Or did they have a different singer before then?
WOW they skip out the greatest sweep in the song in the vid! guys listen to the full version of this song there is an amazing sweep around 55 seconds in that they cut out of the vid for some unknown reason.
Travis Richter is gonna sing in 2010? Wow, this band might get even more badass!
@jweezy1711 so is Nocturne?
yeah, what happened to the other long haired dude from point break?
This blows!!!
What happened to "Crossing the Rubicon"?
@KillswitcHxTDO I dunno about better, I think they're different, but I was reeeally skeptical about Richter but he hasnt disappointed me yet lol. I still love THA old shit, including Midheaven, the second I hear Nathan's joined another band I'm gonna jump right on it
i dunno what u guys are talkin about this song is pretty freakin cool
@fovalorgeneral1 He is in a new band
The change from 3:08-3:11 always pissed me off, seems like such a good build up for something annnnd then just nothing. :/
a key change i suppose, but i agree
new bassist?
@patt24k I think atreyu has a song for people who doubt them it's called blow you should look it up
Nathan's screams are similar to mine, and there more emotional than most vocalists such as ivan in 5fdp
Anyone know what Nathan Ells is up to these days?
@KillswitcHxTDO Not only that, they only started dissing him AFTER he left. I'm sure that before he left they were agreeing that he's a great singer
Every time he gets to the speech I can’t take it. It hits me with full force. Too much truth. No wonder a song like this won’t get enough listens.
@and1hero1 Well he isn't with the band anymore. They have a new vocalist. Look at their new single release called "Faust". AJ's back, and Ells is gone. Finally. Haha. The planets have aligned.
aj's back sweet
he is Henry Selva
Yeah, the genius isn't here. But when you keep an open mind about it, this album is still fucking amazing.
@Mooperty Let's hope they find a new vocalist who is as good or better. Their current Touring Vocalist, Ryan Devlin does an amazing job live, at least.
@killdriv3r
You've posted what I was thinking...
I like this album, but for me, Nocturne is a masterpiece.
i like this song! o_O
@Grantlax9 Check out Vela, Together We Await the Storm if you wanna see why hopeless signed these guys.
He sounds pretty good to me.
I agree..
i liked nathan and i also like bits and pieces of midheaven, this is an awesome song, just dont compare it to nocturne
Nathan Ells is secretly the "Gingers Don't have souls" kid. I think that would explain midheaven
@StewieSwan What band?
Did you actually read it twice before responding? I said Dean is the only one LEFT.
I like this guy's vocals way more than the guy they had do Digital Veil. Oh, well, c'est la vie...
(love the song, by the way)
Totally agree. I saw them live when they had Nathan Ells (the original vocalist), and again when they had the new guy. The new guy sang the old songs like shit. Dawn Leaf yup
I mean not counting down the days but rather breathing life into devices XD
