Hey brother! This was perfect. Not only very relaxing to watch with the sounds of rain and fire but very informative and simple guidance, you teach well my friend! Sharp, woowee! ☺️🌲
Thanks for the video. I enjoy seeing the sharpening methods that other people use. I have the same hatchet and knife, and find them both to be excellent tools.
Yezzir. I too carry the Garberg (carbon) and Fiskars hatchet. Just ordered the CC4, it's got the fine ceramic side plus an ultra fine ceramic side to keep them tools extra honed
Hey Ryan; just wanted to thank you from here in England for this vid. I've just got hold of exactly the same DC4 stone as you used here, and I found this really useful. (Seeing the camp, you also gave me a great idea for using pallets for shelter. Thanks man!)
I'm not great at sharpening either. I was going to use the compound and my belt to strop but I forgot haha. I have found that the hatchet is really all I need. Rarely do I wish i had a bigger axe with me.
Good review of the stone, just a few tips with sharpening... If you put the stone down it helps with controlability with the knife. I think you should see much better results that way
It is just turtle wax chrome polish. Stainless steel polish will work too. Hold the blade of your knife over a flame for a few seconds to heat the blade up and it will wipe right off with a towel. Careful not to melt or burn the handle or yourself 😁
j'ai la dc4 que je garde pour le mora kansbol ,mon opinel ,laguiole et petits couteaux mais pour le schrade schf 38 et mon winchester je prend la pierre DC521 c'est plus grand et on peu aussi la mettre dans un sac
Are you sharpening that entire scandi grind or do you lift it up?. Hard to tell in the video. I find sharpening scandis more difficult than regular V edges. A lot of metal has to be removed on a scandi. Not a problem sharpening it at home but in the field, not so.
I should have clarified that I'm just making a smaller bevel on the edge. It works just fine for me without having to remove metal from the whole grind. I feel that it helps strengthen the blade for wood processing and other tasks.
Great video mate. I am so bad at sharpening my knives and axes. I nearly always make them worse then give up and have someone do it for me. What polish is it that you use on the blades? Gonna try again haha
Thank you. I'm not that great at it myself especially with a big stone. The polish I use is turtle wax chrome polish. I'm sure there's something else better that is specifically for the type of steel but it works pretty well.
@@BURNWOODBUSHCRAFT thanks for the reply mate. Will keep trying and see if I can improve. I have tried pull through sharpeners, electric sharpening, small handheld stones, ceramic rods, whetstone, even bought a Lansky sharpening system with guides but never a great result. It’s so frustrating.
Just ordered both the DC4 and CC4 double ceramic sharpener .Was recommended by another video after I told him I had a Buck fixed blade with higher end S35VN steel . The DC4 is coarse / medium and the CC4 is medium / fine ? Hope they work well together
The sharpener comes with instructions not to use oil or water with it, so I wouldn't use anything. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to knife sharpening though so maybe someone else has better information. My knife was a bit beat up after my army times but I did get it reasonably sharp when I first sharpened it(I guess with bit of practice I could get it sharper).
On the video it looks like you're sliding the knife on the stone quite lightly, so I must ask, are you putting any particular amount of pressure onto the knife while you're sharpening it? Like, lightly at first and then applying more pressure as you go on? I just want to make sure I do it correctly! Thanks :D
Good video, mate. Clear and easy to follow without any bullshit which many other UA-camrs seem to throw into their vlogs.

Thank you Gilbert!
Good video Burnwood!!! I like seeing everyone's little personal tweaks to their sharpening systems.
Thank you man! I'm sure I can get better at sharpening. It works for now
@@BURNWOODBUSHCRAFT honing our skills is like honing our blades, it takes time to perfect.

Thank you! I agree. Both are great tools.
Always nice seeing the techniques of others. Thanks for sharing.
Really like the metal Polish idea for removing crap from the blade i have never seen that before! Great video like your camp!
Thank you! The polish works pretty darn good.
I'm probably about to buy one of these, thanks for posting the video!

Still love that camp! Another nice video my friend
Thank you Thack! Cheers!
I go back and forth like they do with whetstones, it works for me.
Thanks for the video. It is very helpful for me to decide what kind of portable sharping stone that I want. Just ordered one.
Very cool! Thank you.
Thanks, you helped me out with this tool!
You're welcome!
Sweet Baby Jesus that camp/BOA!!
I really stink at sharpening ... need to work at that. I don't see many people using the fiskars hatchet .. i love mine for light duty camp chores

Nice vid and simple explanation. I should buy one like yours 👍🏽 😃
Thank you! It's a great little sharpener.
I like to sharpen my saws when it is raining.
Haha its hard to do much else lol.

nice looking tech
Thanks man!
I'm watching this with the same knife and same stone xD (well, I have the carbon version of the garberg, but still)
thanks for the video !
What was that polish you used to remove the sap? Need me some of that lol

Doesn’t matter what type of chrome polish you use. I have carbon mora garberg. Another question why do you polish it before sharping?
I don't always polish before. It doesn't make a difference to me.
@@BURNWOODBUSHCRAFT I'd figure you'd want to polish it up a lil after.

Does the ceramic side work on stainless steel?
Yes
Hi. It's been a while since you posted this video. I wanted to ask if the ceramic side gets worn out or caved in with use?
I've been using this stone for 4 years and it still works at good as brand new. I have not noticed any kind of major wear or caving in.
@@BURNWOODBUSHCRAFT That's awesome! Thank you for the reply.
How can i cleaning this stone?
I would use a little water and a soft brush or tooth brush to clean the metal deposits off both sides then dry the stone thoroughly
@@BURNWOODBUSHCRAFT thank you 👍
should I use some water on the sharpener?
I don't know if water is bad for the stone or not. I wouldn't use water. It's really not needed.
Water is ok with diamond ceramic not necessary

Yes. Start out light and gradually add pressure as you go. You'll get the feel for it.
Sick intro bruh
Thank you!
thx for the vid! thats mora steel or carbon?
That one is the stainless steel one.

knife sharpening is a weak skill for me
