I remember the day Freddie died. You dont know how much you care about someone or something until its gone forever. As long as God lets me remember I will never forget him.
Considering Deacon's open distain for the music business in general, often saying Live Aid was the only day he was proud to be in the music business, I believe this is what he wants to break free from. "Lies", "Self-Satisfied" and "Life goes on" can all be applied to the music business. This is just my humble opinion as Deacon rarely revealed much of what he was thinking.
I want to break free is Deacon saying he wants out. Another of his song was spread your wings (and fly away). The man wanted out for a long time. At some show Deacon threw his bass guitar. And he never got in touch with the remaining members of Queen. That says a lot...well now he's free at last.
@@FineArtsMusic Yes, Deacy is free from public appearances but the rude people who want to exploit him for their own financial gain by hounding Deacy for his signature. He still can't break totally free. So Sad.
The Works is my favorite Queen album and I Want to Break Free is my favorite song. I honestly agree with your analysis. I’ve feel like I’ve always gotten that vibe from this song.
To me, the lyrics says exactly what it says - someone wants to break free from the life he knows. Which is John's life within Queen. He was called the accidental rock star - a family man, married at a young age, becoming a father only months later, and appearantly he loves his family life. Earlier, he wrote You're my best friend - to his wife Veronica, to whom he is still married. "You write a song and then suddenly they give you all this money" he said once. In 1986, at the last tour, he threw his bass in the speakers. Something wasn't right. He went on holiday to Bali all of a sudden - just to get away. When his roadie Peter Hince quit, it felt to Hince as if John wished he could do the same. My theory is that he stayed with the band because of Freddie. He had developed drinking problems at that time. There is a video clip of him at a party in '86 when he slowly slides from the chair and ends underneath a table ... He started to smoke when he was 33 - who starts smoking at that age unless he has problems? So ... my theory might be wrong, but I think it is plausible.
You stay together in misery because it's comfortable. You stay together because being miserably comfortable is better than the scary unknown of the deep end. So you stay in the shallows hating your life. ..or you jump into the deep end and learn to swim alone, & happy..⛅
I always thought the song was about someone who was bad for the person singing it and that person doesn't want to be with him anymore but he's still in love and although wanting to break free, he cannot.

At first your interpretation sounded absurd, but it makes sense when we consider who John Deacon was; he didn't like the world of fame and glory. He must have felt trapped in that fabulous lifestyle. He seems to believe in simpler things like love and internal peace. Love your videos btw.
Keeping in mind that it was written by John Deacon who relied heavily on Freddie's support, could it be John even then wanted to just leave all that being in such a high profile band entailed, touring, life style, etc.? Seems to me to be more about breaking free from a particular life than the world as a whole. Living life of A, likes the idea of life B, but is afraid to change. As most are. It's vague enough to be relatable to a large amount of people. It's something Nickelback's lead Chad Kroeger learned and made 'How You Remind Me'.
Since Deacon wrote it and he was married who knows. It could mean out he wanted out of being in show business. He fell in love for the first time, by realizing this world is evil. Reading that one comment before Freddie's death about God, confirmed my belief. Today I realized after listening to this song and before watching your video, perhaps he fell in Love with God and is turning away from this world. I used to think it was truly about a relationship, but many of the words kind of contradict that.
John was not that deep when he wrote this song he said he it as like an Anthem to Housewives and people who feel oppressed but they're sick of their dull normal housewife stuff
Lil Soulz Poor Freddie:) Everyone also assumed it was his idea to dress in drag but it was Roger’s girlfriend initially....Freddie said the others “couldn’t wait to get into their frocks”!!
I think it's about John wanting to divorce his wife. He had someone else but he was aware that this new person perhaps couldn't give him the same stability and normality his wife could give him. According to Brian and Roger, the three of them had serious problems in their marriages at the time.
THAT'S what you get from it ?? Don't think too hard. But everyone on earth can pull their self from this song I guess. I don't get any of your idea from it tho
Wrong… The song is just a fun song that doesn’t take itself seriously.. The Americans didn’t get it.. it was a fun spoof song of A British soap ‘ Coronation Street’. It was meant to be enjoyed not analysed.. All the best Derek Wales 🏴U.K.
So it's your theory Queen is conservative wanting to leave everything liberal behind ? No way was Freddy Conservative, you are wrong look no deeper than the words don't add them.
I thought this was about someone (perhaps Freddie) coming out as gay, as the lyrics make total sense with this story, but that doesn’t make sense as John Deacon wrote this lol

Seems to me to be more about breaking free from a particular life than the world as a whole. Living life of A, likes the idea of life B, but is afraid to change. As most are. It's vague enough to be relatable to a large amount of people. It's something Nickelback's lead Chad Kroeger learned and made 'How You Remind Me'.
great 👏👏👌
can you please do a analysis on the video aswell??
Renata Serrano I will get around to that. The only music video analysis I’ve done so far is for Radio Ga Ga
I thought it meant Freddy wants to get out the public and wants to have his own life
At first i legit thought that this song was about freddie wanting to come out as gay and quit lying to himself
Yes, but around 84 they were having problems
I want to gleaming the cube

Nonscience ROBMAN
THAT'S what you get from it ?? Don't think too hard. But everyone on earth can pull their self from this song I guess. I don't get any of your idea from it tho
I think America Takes this song too personal just because they cross dress
Wrong… The song is just a fun song that doesn’t take itself seriously.. The Americans didn’t get it.. it was a fun spoof song of
A British soap ‘ Coronation Street’.
It was meant to be enjoyed not analysed..
All the best Derek Wales 🏴U.K.
First
It’s all about his sexuality. He wants to break free from the hate from homophobic people. But he can’t
Nonsence
So it's your theory Queen is conservative wanting to leave everything liberal behind ? No way was Freddy Conservative, you are wrong look no deeper than the words don't add them.
I thought this was about someone (perhaps Freddie) coming out as gay, as the lyrics make total sense with this story, but that doesn’t make sense as John Deacon wrote this lol
Yea u nailed it!!
