That sucks. It is one of my favorite tracks. I am a bass player and there is something about the simplicity of this bass line that is beautiful. The first time I played this in my car I could not wait to get home and play that bass line.

This song would've really had more of an impact if it came out more recently with the rise in gun violence in schools.

I did that once. A teach let me borrow his pocket knife and I was trying to return it but ended up getting called to the principal's office. Whoops. Lucky for me, nobody cared as much as they do now and I got off with a stern warning.

Pumped up kicks is about a similar massacre to Columbine, about deranged kids with guns- legitimate ones & the bassist of foster the people, cousin was a survivor of the columbine massacre.

As someone who lives in America, this song really hits hard. Ever since Columbine, school shooting just have been getting worse and worse here in the States. Especially down in the south, and I swear, nobody wants to do anything about it. We don't have to get rid of guns entirely, but we need to change the rules for guns. Its not a free country if INNOCENT lives are being lost.
school shootings have been bad even before Columbine
With 3D printed guns there's nothing people can do, I'm glad to be going to high school next year so I can get this shit down with and not worry about losing my life, hopefully I can get enrolled online. But I still worry about the current and future generations, they still have to risk their life when heading to school which is awful, hopefully something can be done about this but I don't know I don't see it slowing down as mental illness is rising.

I know what the song is about, but I have a loose theory that this song is loosely based on the deaths of Russel's Highschool friends.
1: Guns. It was a shooting. That one is kinda self explanatory.
2: At some points in the song you can hear a roar of a car. The shooting was a drive by shooting.
3: Near the end, Russel is pounding on the drums SO HARD. almost like he's really emotional.

Maybe not like this, but you could create something different but genuinely just as good, maybe it's a completely new genre of music, maybe it's a different type of art like writing or visual art. Someone will look at it and say "I wish I was that good" and they can be. Even if whatever you do has nothing to do with art, if you do something that has a positive impact on at least one other person, your life would be worth it.
