- A German journalist has blamed Ukrainian soldiers’ war tactics for the recent loss of Swedish-made Combat Vehicle 90 (CV 90) to Russian forces. Bild contributor Julian Ropcke said that the Swedish-made infantry fighting vehicle was put “too close to the front” by Ukrainian forces.
Russian forces captured their first CV 90, an advanced $10 million apiece Swedish-made infantry fighting vehicle, in West of Kreminna. Western officials and observers have in recent weeks expressed frustration over Kyiv’s war “tactics.”

@@redwine2664That 1960's grenade launcher was designed to destroy tanks while CV-90 is a lightly armored vehicle supposed to withstand only machine gun fire and shrapnel. Only a tank or very few really heavily protected and most modern IFV's can withstand an RPG-7 to the front, and none to the side or to the rear.
Also though RPG-7 was designed in 1960's the grenades currently used with RPG-7 were designed in the 1980's or later.

well.. generally.. as with all armored vehicles.. if they dont have infantry providing mutual support and security, they are vulnerable.. you also want these weapon systems a bit farther back but thats not always possible. the armor on most ifv provide protection from small arms of up to 14.5mm and artillery splinters or in some cases 20 and 30 mm cannon but generally thats for the front hull on some ifv.. side hull is generally rated for 14.5mm.. fyi.. a .50 cal=12.7mm if you didnt already know this
@@BRANFEDI accept the bald tech detail you provided but It would have had INFANTRY inside the armour of the 'INFANTRY Fighting Vehicle' : the infantry and the IFV and its armaments are designed to provide mutual support in the fight. If we were discussing a similar situation with a tank - going to the front line without infantry support - I might criticise the tank commander (the Russians did this a lot early on in the war and paid the price to shoulder-launched ATGMs). The CV90 is a good piece of kit, but like the Leopard, Abrams and Challenger are not invincible and some will be destroyed on the battlefield. There is no such thing as perfect kit or perfect commanders and I am reluctant to criticise the men who make the life-and-death decisions under fire and especially when the full context can't be known - especially by journalists at arm's length, to say the least. Should information emerge about possible recklessness on the part of commanders I may adjust my opinion.,

The idea was to combine APC & battle tanks together, which mean carry numerous troops close to the frontline as possible

They are armed transport vehicles to carry troops faster than their feet can. (and to be rested when fighting instead of after several miles of marching)... The only thing "fighting" means is that there are built in weapons on them. And their armor is built to prevent damage from machineguns. They obviously cant withstand anti-tank weapons. A tank is far harder to knock out than an IFV

Combat vehicles are made to be 'close to the front'. To go in harms way, act as battle taxi and protection for the troops. If it was lost and the troops survived it did its job.

Did you notice the blotted out section of one of the photos? Seems like the right front hull of the vehicle was covered with the burnt remains of one of the crew members. I'm Swedish by the way, and watching our Strf 90/40's (CV 90) of a once proud, neutral nation get fried on a Ukrainian battlefield just to satisfy the vanity of a few globalists and Russia hating US Neocons feels surreal to me.
You got a problem though when your opponent has way more material and manpower (and their logistic lines are thousands of kilometers shorter)..

And the media in this case have completely ignored the 2000 od tanks that the Russians have lost or the average 25 artillery systems per day that they are currently loosing.
The countries donating those tanks should realize that at some point this may happen. But the question is, what if the russians get one of their tank? What are they going to do with it aside from bragging rights. I dont it is that easy to replicate a tank and its technology
Without a highly experienced crew, on the platform they are fighting with, the same will happen with the Abrams. It takes a US crew years to become experts on the Abrams, and they have others around them to help when a problem comes up. Just because they get Abrams dont mean they will all of a sudden start winning. Experience in war only goes so far if you dont know your equipment inside and out.
That why they are sending the refurbished Abrams to Ukraine.
It will be an easier and simplified version of the Abrams.
Drive the Abrams to the front, point at the target, and shoot.

It is the system, not the individual units, that is decisive. The system means tanks, crews, refuelers, repair facilities, communications organization, attached weapons, etc.

It wasn't alone - it had troops inside its armoured hull. It is an 'Infantry Fighting Vehicle' designed to take troops to the fight and assist by providing cover in the fight. It is not a tank which requires all-round protection by troops and usually provides fire suppression from a distance.

Face it, it's not unheard of for IFV's to have to fight tanks. It happens.
One case in DS had a the HQ company of a USMC Division getting attacked by an Iraqi combined arms battalion.
When the HQ came under fire from the Iraqi tank and BMP's. As the dismounted marines fought with LAWs, AT-4's, rifles and machine guns. and the HQ commander realized his LAV's would be destroyed if they remained static so he ordered his LAV's to charge. And the LAV's did just that. The LAV's with their 25mm cannons and TOW missiles fought a chaotic running battle, and stopping only to reload. In the process the LAV's destroyed over a dozen Iraqi armor before the Iraqi's broke and retreated.
Probably panicked and went full speed in the wrong direction 😅
A few months in a training camp doesn't make you an expert at tactics. Also consider that at this point many soldiers are draftees just trying to avoid jail or beatings by press gangs.

Any number of IFV's/APC's are expected to be destroyed in any real war. Going straight up to the enemy's position and disembark a rifle squad to take it on in close quarters is the very purpose of such a vehicle. That German journalist doesn't know the first thing he's talking about.

If they are such capable, they may have built their own already, if they would get the needed parts. The first time the US and its NATO/Ukraine minions have had to face and fight a capable and equally well equiped army, navy, air force and we can see the difference between Western propogandha and the facts on the battlefield. Brave Ukrainians dying in a war they could never win (three hundred thousand plus) in an attempt to cover up the fact the Russians are more than capable, well supplied, quick to strategically adapt to changing situation on the battlefield. The CV90s the UA recieved are the C versions, which are the most modern the SAF had. That CV90 should not have been destroyed and if UA hadn't been so braindead it wouldn't have been

As a Swede i can tell you that MOST of us in Sweden are not blaming Ukraine for this, we knew this could happen and yes of course it's sad to see it's not on Ukraine.. We made the decision to send the CV9040, so we knew the risks.. And there's already a newer model in production so it'll be alright 🤷♂

If you dont want your precious equipment to fall into enemy hands keep it in a show room. Eventually every piece of equipment from all sides will be "exchanged". This is an opportunity to test these pieces no matter how much they cost. Military budgets are in the billions, stop counting the millions. As technology progress the equipment of recent time is already irrelevant within a year or so. By the time they figure out the components and try to replicate it, it is already an old story. Nothing to be exited about. Ukraine should use the equipment they got the way they see it fit. I dont see this war expending to include Nato countries, this equipment will be sitting in a warehouse requiring maintenance and still getting rusty. At least they are being useful in some way. Hopefully Ukraine will use them with good successful results and Sweden can claim some honor.
