Just got myself a 2023 SEL AWD with the Activity Package yesterday, in beautiful Stone Blue. Watched all your videos on this thing during my research. I am in love with this vehicle, whatever you wanna categorize it as. Spent six months dreaming about it and it still exceeds my expectations. Just wanted to come back and say thanks for the informative videos!
Thank you for being “my favorite” on this vehicle !!!! Details are so so so needed !!!!!! You flipping rock, so far the “only” thing I do not like , (because , I do live where there is a lot of dew and stays , way humid is the brakes rust “ ) other than that , I am following you to the moon and back ! Dude ! Thank you and you flipping ROCK!
My pleasure, Shelly! Thanks for the kind words! I will keep you updated on my SC from time to time. Getting ready to roll past 10k pretty soon. Stay tuned and thanks again!
I have the 2022 SEL with activity package, bought it brand new and absolutely love it!!! only wish I would of got the turbo, but hey I am good, it is SO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE! I was the 2nd in my town to get one and I think there are 4or 5 now, its funny every time we see each other at a light or driving we all wave at each other, its cool!
I have owned a full size pickup before and installed an aftermarket tonneau on it and it was no where near $7k. If that price is true, then these dealers are running money scams on more than these "chip shortage" uncharges they got going on!! I do agree that the price for the package is worth it, as it also includes additional interior upgrades as the larger cluster display and wireless charging to go along with the items you spoke about. Keep up the great content and wish you the best from a fellow Floridian.
I totally agree Alex. I've heard that from the dealers and it's all over the SC forum boards last I heard. It seems ludicrous but nothing surprises me anymore. Definitely price gouging to the max, should be illegal. If I had to guess I would say that price will come way down but imagine how much it would cost to put an electric sunroof in after market, so it is worth it. Thanks brother, see you on the road!
Well, it could be worth it only if it is also available on the SE trim...I do not think the SEL trim is worth it than the base SE trim. For that, you are talking about $6000 altogether to get there. Now that there are after market bed cover kits for about $400 to 500 for DIYers. That is more like it instead of $7K. It is more like a scam. BTW, some did not like to have it due to the space the cover ocupy that limited the bed length.
Just got me a limited and aside from all the features which I love like the retractable tonneau bed, what really caught me by surprise was how fast it was!
Right bertito?! I'm okay with so-so gas mileage with this pickup. Limited is the way to go. Best of luck with your new ride! Stay tuned for my 1 year update coming up soon.
I've had my '23 Night Edition for a couple weeks now and its pretty sweet. It comes with the Activity Package as well as some of the Limited only stuff like 20" rims , but in black.
I got the 2022 black Santa Cruz with the activity package including locking hard rolling tonneau cover, towing receiver, sun roof...roof rack, tinted windows... all the others you mentioned. Had a problem finding Cruz with activity package in New England area... so I found and had one shipped from San Antonio, Texas. There is an accessory selection with the push start button, push without foot on brake.
Nice review... thanks!! Lots of your observations would be crucial here in northern Maine.... we need to milk every advantage out of the nice seasonal weather opportunities... as well as some of the less fortunate conditions we need to contend with as well.
I bought a 2025 XTR in the same color a month ago. Wife and I really love it. Traded my 2020 Gladiator Rubicon (which I also loved) but this thing is so versatile and wife also loves driving it. Nearly double the MPG of the Gladiator. I am on the hunt for another Jeep to add to the stable.
I'm surprised this vehicle doesn't have the fold down center armrest with cup holders in the back like my 2016 Tucson. I hope Hyundai can fit one in there for the mid cycle refresh. Even with just one person sitting in the back, it makes a road trip a LOT more comfortable. I do like that they have memory seats up front. Great videos.
i have a 2022 and it is the best rig i have ever had i have put a roofnest camper on the back bed with a special rack that makes the truck a one of a kind camping machine. it is called the "Meadowlark" by Roofnest, it is a perfect fit for the.bed of the Santa Cruz. i altered the mounting and now I call it the " Millennial Covered Wagon" a must see....
Great video dude! And I agree completely. Mine is the SEL with the activity package. Had to have the cover for the bed! Plus you get the sun roof roof rails sliding rear window and the 10” instrument cluster. Plus with the SEL you still have wireless Apple car play and some knobs to play with hahaha. I like the wheel and tire combination too, seems to give a great ride! Traded in a 2019 Mazda CZ5 Grandtouring on it and haven’t looked back. Like I said before mines BLACK and shiny. Have owned black cars since my first new car in 1976, a Cutless Supreme. Damn that was a pretty car, window sticker at 4800 don’t see that anymore lol. I live in Ohio and yes it’s hard to keep clean in the winter but that’s the way it goes.
Haha, David I had a 1975 Olds Cutlas Supreme with a 350 engine. It had no A/C and I live in Florida LOL, great car. I totally forgot to mention the 10" cluster and wireless phone charger, great catch! Hope to see you down here in your black beauty some day. Stay warm brother and thanks!
Nice!! I just got a recall but when I went to the dealer, they couldn't tell me what it was lol. They said they are awaiting parts and instructions from the factory.

I am in love with your blue iguana. My mom wants to get me a new car and told me to look at the Santa Cruz. She said no to the santa cruz but hoping she warms up to it. We dont have any colored ones up here in Pennsylvania however I know you can order it. They had black. But I do love your blue.
I test drove the black and loved it but the blue works great for me down here in Florida. If that's the one you want search other dealers around the state or even in other states. It's worth it if it makes you happy. Good luck MsSSnow!
@@BarefootVlogger I been watching every in depth test of this Santa Cruz. How it tows, how it off-roads ,its tires, obviously its breaks from your video. Has me a bit hesitant them rusting already. We dont have salt air like u but in winter we have salt on our roads. Just watching all the tests all the buttons info... the lights. Its out of my moms budget so. I want to be sure I am going to get my moneys worth.
So I have the SEL PREMIUM with said package and I have run my pit boss grill off the ac outlet in my truck bed... so yeah... that part works. The cover is a bear due to the fact it cuts almost a foot from the bed itself and can be a hindrance but for the most part the benefit does outweigh the downside in daily use.
In addition though... I do have a highly modified santa cruz which I do encorage the poster to trade for a day and review the mods done to the santa cruz for a video as well. Located in the Reno,NV area so fun visit for a trade. I can explain the upgrades including a stage one turbo tune to the poster if he chooses to take me up on the offer.
Wow that's a great deal Fred! I'm sure the prices of these things will come down as more vehicles are released. I'm glad at least I don't have to worry about it lol. Thanks for watching!
I have my dibs on a white limited Santa Cruz here in Southern California - but continually on the search for mine - not getting a black one- that’s a deal breaker for me 😃 great video
Jason, smart move. I saw the ice white on the lot and it was awesome. Honestly made me think twice but it didn't have the activity package. Good luck brother, stick to your plan and you will find one. Thanks for watching!
I actually just test drove Santa Cruz this morning and a ridgline Honda , and an outback Subaru Definitely the limited Santa Cruz is definitely the one 🙌🏽👊🏽 thank you for all your reviews input etc
My pleasure brother, couldn't agree with you more. Is Ridgeline more practical? Maybe, but looks is important to me when I'm spending my hard earned dough. I just don't dig the Ridgeline looks compared to the SC I think it's no contest. Anyways, best of luck in your quest and see you on the road! BTW, got a great name for your "white iguana"...The Albino! Onward and Upward
I’ve owned a 2011 Sonata for 6 yrs (currently has 210k miles) and need to upgrade to a Santa Cruz! I want the analog gauges, physical volume knob & ac controls, tonneau cover, sunroof and the adjustable rails to tie stuff down. Not sure what my combination will cost me but I want in. lol
@@BarefootVlogger Yes sir the media likes to trash Hyundai/Kia but it’s just like any other vehicle brand with highs and lows- basically if you take good care of any car with regular maintenance and not drive like a maniac, it should last. Gotta say the brief glimpse of your tent in the back bed got me thinking. Do you have a video on the tent setup Terry? If the Santa Cruz had a mid gate with an efter market shell, you could play for the day and then stealth camp, but I am liking where your going with the tent. Dear Hyundai can we please have a midgate? Guarantee you will double your sales in the US. Love the soundtrack BV. Well done. 👍
That gives me some peace of mind Joseph thanks! I can tell by the solid feel of the vehicle, it gives me a great deal of confidence every time I get in it. The warranty doesn't hurt either lol! Thanks brother
This is true. I wanted just the basic se model and my dealer told me to install the cover it would be 4,600 bucks. So I’m waiting on the new 2023 sel activity package truck will be here next week. And price wise the se is 29,000 the sel activity package 33,000 and you get more add ons. Can’t wait. By the way love your truck.
Im torn between this and a Hornet to daily drive and tow my pontoon 1 mile on summer weekends. Maverick is unavailable and I hear their open deck turbo motor is sketchy. Id get a 191hp Santa Cruz bc of cost vs an Alfa monster turbo Hornet GT...
I also put a lot of hyundai extras on mine. Did you mention the heat/cool seats? And heated steering wheel!! I got the bed extender too. Roof basket, santa cruz lettering for my truck bed door. Side steps, tint, window vents, bug shield, etc. It's the bomb!! I have the Sagegray
What do you have covering the composite bed that looks white or silver? Did you glue it or did you have a service apply it? Does that mat have a brand name?
Thanks Alice, sorry I don't have the packaging anymore but measure the truck bed width and get the light blue mat that fits the closest. Mine came rolled up in plastic and when I unraveled it I cut it to size.
I just bought the Limited trim In Ice White … aka “The Panda”. The one feature I feel that Hyundai missed the mark on is, No Dual Exhaust :( This EYE Popping design would be even better with Dual Exhaust. LOVE Your SC videos! Thanks
PANDA!! LOVE IT Howard!! Yes, dual exhaust would be smart on this vehicle. Probably in the next iteration they add it. theletteringmachine.com/BarefootVlogger/shop/page/blue-iguana
I heard Hyundai was working on a tent for the SC but haven't seen anything yet. I haven't purchased one for fear it would be too long for the short bed. But I came across this thread: www.santacruzforums.com/threads/santa-cruz-bed-tent.9992/
Wow great question Jose I honestly dont know. It is rated for 250 lbs thst much I know just not sure if you would have to drill holes somewhere to attach them since theres no siderails
Tell that to Jimmy Buffett. He blew out his flip flop. Stepped on a pop top. Cut his heel had to cruise on back home. Good thing for him he had booze in the blender.
@@BarefootVlogger I park inside both at home and work, I do get what you mean though about how it locks. I want a limited but if you can't get it without the bed cover that might be a problem for me.
How would you rate the driver side seating say for a big guy? I really am gravitating towards this truck. Think im gonna test drive one Saturday, but if the size inside doesn't work, then its back to the drawing board for me for car shopping hahha
Great question Maurice. Im going to say you may feel a bit cramped because its not all that roomy. But I used to drive a Fiat Spider so it seems fine coming from that. The seats will push back pretty far but definitely sit in one and test drive to make sure youre comfortable. Good luck brother let me know how it goes!
@@BarefootVlogger I test one on Saturday and i gotta tell....I loved it! the roominess is better than i thought and i could see where you can be cramped. The driving, the comfort, and style all felt great! Im looking into buying either the one i drove which was the phantom black and black. or have to wait for another to come in (hope to get that mojave sand color!!!!)
@@mauricewatson3331 So glad to hear it Maurice! That mojave sand is stunning. I've never seen one up close in person but this dealer has a good look on youtube: ua-cam.com/video/f_nZ-NKbmOg/v-deo.html
Hey , I'm a big guy 6ft and weigh 315 pds . I have plenty of room in my Santa Cruz . It's very comfortable and roomy for my size . Even has enough room in the back seat for a passenger behind me .
It's definitely not waterproof. They call it water resistant and that's probably accurate. Heavy rains or a run through the car wash will get the inside a little wet.
Cool! I do a lot of videos traveling in my SC and so far so good. Most issues were minor. It has great pickup and seems very reliable. I got the Limited because I wanted the tonneau and leather so it just made sense. Let me know what you decide and best of luck!
Come on 7 to10K for a hard Tonneau Cover ?? I heard that when ever you stop , The emergency brake sets itself on ?? So something you have to turn of before you leave ? Stop-start button Econ button , And now the emergency brake lever ??? more B.S. to mess with before you can go on your way !! Is this true on your Hyundai ???
Hey Kenn, that was true when I first bought it and trying to decide whether it would be cheaper for me to just add the tonneau later on as an aftermarket. The dealership told me it would be 7-10k so I can only go by what a Hyundai dealer told me. I've heard since then they've come way down. As to the emergency brake, funny you should mention that. I've had a handful of instances when the emergency brake was on and I don't remember ever engaging it. I think the problem is people are hitting it by accident when they're moving around but not 100% sure about that. I will definitely monitor that situation but truthfully it's only happened a few times.
@@BarefootVlogger hey dude, thanks for the reply. I do have a question regarding the vehicle. Not sure if you noticed, but mine does not have the blinking red light on the dash board that indicates the car is locked like I do on my other cars. Does your have it? Because I’m not sure if mine is broken or it doesn’t exist
@@BarefootVlogger yeah I found it strange, especially if it doesn’t have such a common feature. I live in a town home and my car is parked infront, so an easy way to check it’s locked it so glance out the window to see the blinking light. Since the mirrors don’t fold, I really have no reference if it’s locked or not. I did set up the bluelink account so I can now check status through the app but that’s besides the point. It really is strange if it doesn’t have it, considering every car I’ve ever owned had it, thought it was standard in todays cars. Or again, mine just might be faulty 😂
I disagree for my usage of the truck part of the Cruz which is more handyman-diy than recreational. The SEL definitely but not the activity package. The factory tonneau cover gets in the way for a lot of functions and taking takes up way too much space in an already small bed. A higher grade Access roll-up cover was only $500 and is much more functional for me. For $1000 I put on the after-market Cover, bed extender, tow hitch, hitch mount Cargo/Bike carrier.
How does it do with a water test? I heard the headlights get water in them. Take it to a car wash a few times and let us know please. I want to purchase one but I’m being told to get a water test done to see if it’ll pass that.
Just got the 2024 SEL with the activity package in California Sand . Love the car but absolutely hate who I bought it from. STAY AWAY FROM THE CROOKS AT DELRAY HYUNDAI!!!
The only thing worth over the base SE is the tonneau cover. You can get a 110v inverter for $20. Led flashlight $10. Of course the crap DCT gearbox is already recalled and can leave you stranded. Is it worth another $10k (40% more) over base, hardly. A fool and his money are soon parted.
I LOVE my SANTA CRUZ. I have the AWD LIMITED PREMIUM. I gotta tell ya, though, less than 19000 miles, and I had to have a new transmission put in 😢. Broke my heart not to her for 1.5 months. That was pushing the dealer EVERYDAY TO GET IT DONE. I MEAN EVERY DAY. This was a recall on other santa cruz truck but not my Vin. I couldn't believe it! It was completely covered by the warranty. But it still was a huge bummer. I still love my truck though!! I will be trading for a 2025!!
I'm so sorry to hear that Sherry. That was exactly my fear and although to this point it's only been a software update, it's always going to be in the back of my mind that that's a possibility. Glad you were covered and hope you have no issues the rest of the way!

That gives me some peace of mind Joseph thanks! I can tell by the solid feel of the vehicle, it gives me a great deal of confidence every time I get in it. The warranty doesn't hurt either lol! Thanks brother
I just bought a 23 sel with the activity package and love it.
Congrats!
So excited for you Carrie! It will be well worth the wait. Thanks!
Heyyyy what did you buy or make for your bed liner????? I love it!
Yoga mat from Dick's Sporting Goods. Thanks!
I'm less enchanted with the back bed plug if I have to turn the truck engine on. When I'm group camping that would be bothersome.
Spectacular review as always.
Thanks so much A.!
That's a great color too! The extras definitely take this truck to the next level!
Nice car. Almost as good as the Honda Ridgeline. Better engine for sure though.
What do you have covering the composite bed that looks white or silver? Did you glue it or did you have a service apply it? Does that mat have a brand name?
Your vehicle looks like it is a lot of fun to drive. I love the cooler option!
We'll get that puppy loaded soon brother! Onward and Southward
Where did you buy the blue truck bed Mat ? It looks so neat with it.
Can u pls send me the exact name of it. Dick's Sporting goods has two different styles. Love your videos.
Thanks Alice, sorry I don't have the packaging anymore but measure the truck bed width and get the light blue mat that fits the closest. Mine came rolled up in plastic and when I unraveled it I cut it to size.
ok, thank you ..
I am going to get the basin one because there is NO way I’ll pay that extra cost !
Another awesome video!! 😊 can i ask what you are using to edit your videos? Very nice editing. 👌
Thanks DV! I'm using Filmora by Wondershare. It's pretty basic, but not bad.
@@BarefootVlogger awesome thanks, are you using it on your phone or pc? Sorry for all the questions.
So the only time the bed lights come on is if the trunk is open. I was disappointed.
I just bought the Limited trim In Ice White … aka “The Panda”. The one feature I feel that Hyundai missed the mark on is, No Dual Exhaust :(
This EYE Popping design would be even better with Dual Exhaust. LOVE Your SC videos! Thanks
PANDA!! LOVE IT Howard!! Yes, dual exhaust would be smart on this vehicle. Probably in the next iteration they add it.
theletteringmachine.com/BarefootVlogger/shop/page/blue-iguana
Have it and love it.
Where did you get the blue protective matt for the cargo area?
lol Dicks Sporting Goods Yoga mat I cut to size
What tent do you use on this? I've been searching for one. Mu SEL came with this pkg amd LOVE IT!
I heard Hyundai was working on a tent for the SC but haven't seen anything yet. I haven't purchased one for fear it would be too long for the short bed. But I came across this thread: www.santacruzforums.com/threads/santa-cruz-bed-tent.9992/
Be nice if it was offered with a manual transmission!
Have you tried out the tent on the santa cruz yet?
Tent? I have a tent but it won't fit in that bed lol. If they make one for the SC I definitely am interested!
Hey is there a way that u can put crossbar not in the roof but in the bed on top and keep the townocober function as normal
Wow great question Jose I honestly dont know. It is rated for 250 lbs thst much I know just not sure if you would have to drill holes somewhere to attach them since theres no siderails
what are the matts you have on the bed and drop down please
I bought yoga mats at Dicks and cut them to size
@BarefootVlogger ok cool. I'm bought dog crate pads for the same reason. If they suck, ill use the ypga mats!! Did you velcro??
I tried but it came off lol
fortunately, i have a hard and fast rule. never listen to a guy who wears his hat backwards.
You just ruled out half the male population and every catcher. Tell that to Johnny Bench
@@BarefootVlogger it goes double for grown men that wear flip flops in public.
Tell that to Jimmy Buffett. He blew out his flip flop. Stepped on a pop top. Cut his heel had to cruise on back home. Good thing for him he had booze in the blender.
You forgot to.add.the wireless charging!
Can you take the bed cover off? I think they use too much bed space honestly.
Nope, it's attached, for that reason many people opt not to get it. For my purposes it's imperative because I need to lock things up when I park.
@@BarefootVlogger I park inside both at home and work, I do get what you mean though about how it locks. I want a limited but if you can't get it without the bed cover that might be a problem for me.
In Canada they are marketing the cover as removable, but it's a pain in the rear. Up here we don't get it as an option, it's standard.
@barefootvlogger Have you tried the feature where you can call the Santa Cruz out of a parking spot yet ?
😮If you're not joking Stef I need to know how to do this!! lol
I don’t know because I have the SeL Activity pack that feature only come on the top trim version.
I don't think it's on mine and I have the top...at least I thought I did lol
Yeah just confirmed, it's in the Tucson, and a few others but SC doesn't have it ☹
@@BarefootVlogger awww dang I thought I saw it in the SC guess it was the Tucson sorry 😞
Does you tonneau leak?
It's definitely not waterproof. They call it water resistant and that's probably accurate. Heavy rains or a run through the car wash will get the inside a little wet.
Just a little. Not much water gets in I find.
Nice
Hi! I am looking into buying one. But not sure which one
Can u pls send me the exact name of it. Dick's Sporting goods has two different styles. Love your videos.
Truck or not, it’s definitely a pick-up. And when you realize that, truck or not becomes irrelevant.
You're right!
@@sdbszz706 I'll have to check sasa haven't noticed. I know my key fob blinks red but someone told me that's normal
Love ❤️ it all barefooty I own Toyota Tacoma
That's a sweeeet truck don! And they last forever. Hopefully my ride is just as reliable. Thank you brother
For $1000 I put on the after-market Cover, bed extender, tow hitch, hitch mount Cargo/Bike carrier.
where’s steviana? i miss seeing her on your channel.
Stay tuned, she'll be back!
They sell the tonneau cover separately now. It's $500 dealer installed. The rest of the stuff in that package I don't want.
Is the cover same as this one?
Is this the SEL or SE?
SEL
Just buy the vehicle used with all the options
How does it do with a water test? I heard the headlights get water in them. Take it to a car wash a few times and let us know please. I want to purchase one but I’m being told to get a water test done to see if it’ll pass that.
Just got the 2024 SEL with the activity package in California Sand . Love the car but absolutely hate who I bought it from. STAY AWAY FROM THE CROOKS AT DELRAY HYUNDAI!!!
Search Truck Ammo
sorry! I need more information about the engine and transmission mileage per gallon ,suspension . I will buy a car not samsung phone
Transmission failed at 23k and needed to be replace. Hope that helps
this vehicle is an open-bed SUV, period!
Sunroof?? No thanks. Rear window door, no thanks
You paid an extra $3,000 for an outlet in the bed and a 10 inch rear window
$7-10k? Hmmmmm
That's what Hyundai dealer quoted me at the time.
