Yes! Please dig it! I got so many good things from the dump in the village where I grew up. Two old treadle sewing machines. One was for making/repairing shoes. Dad got both working and we used them a lot. Many nice old bottles, too.
Absolutely I'd say you will find many cool bottles, crocks, an much more. When you find it you better dig it or someone else will beat you to it. I always dig up old bottles when i run across them out detecting. Some are worth quit a bit these days. Have a great week an i can't wait to see what all you get to unearth. 😁👍👍
Todd, YES dig it and come back with the rights tools. We wish we could come out and help you😉 It is something new for you that you will enjoy. That pit is loaded with relics.😀👏👍
Go ahead and investigate it. You never know what's been discarded over the years. I've told my great nephew who lives in our grandparents old home he needs to explore the area at the creek be hi nd his house because for years everyone dumped trash at grandpa's creek so it hard telling what's in there. My brother has pulled out several pieces if glassware and old plates. There's also an old well right behind the house that's had trash dumped in since before I can remember. Our cousin who was a well driller used to go down it and clean it out when it was still in use but the last time he did my dad said he told my grandpa to seal the well up because off to one side was a large room of quicksand . They did close the well up and drilled another on the property line between their house and ours and they also found a lot of quicksand there but did get clear water which was used till the late 80s or early 90s when city water came thru. After the well was closed grandpa pit a large cement lid to it but used the well to dump trash. My first teddy bear is down there somewhere. However the well continues to sink and several cars have has to be pulled out because the drivers pulled to far on the well and the front ends sank. It's really kind of Scarey when you think about it but the well has been there for over a 100 yrs and the house is still there and in great condition.
Yes there were several springs in the area. The big creek at the back if that property started about a mile above it, there's a big swimming pool about 5 miles from there that s been in business for 85 years and it's spring fed. Ovee the years it has been expanded to include the big granite boulders and one of the springs at the top of them to include a slide around them and into to the one area of the pool. My youngest sin worked for the people who owned it and so did my one of my 1st cousins who is 80+ yrs old. Its a reall nice place and it's also a very cold pool regardless of the temps because of the springs. Thus it's name Kool Park Pool. Growing up we knew all this stuff just never realized how unique the area was. I guess you have to be 9ld to value the things you enjoyed and learned growing up.
@@gayeyount7948 that’s very interesting Gaye. Could you all swim in it? Too bad junk was thrown down the well. I was at a place yesterday whose owner did that. So much work and effort went into digging those back in the day you think they could cap them or put a pump on there but it’s forever gone now.
@@AppalachianHistoryDetectives we played in that creek soon the time. Near the elementary school there was what we called the cowhole and we swam in it. My kids dad lived the other side of it and before they had indoor plumbing he and his brothers used to take baths in that place during the summer. Another place was on down the creek from the one behind our house was a spring and the people when they built their new house ran the spring water into their house. It had a nice oldnrock spring house there and that was some good water to go get a drink from during the hot summer days. They were the rich neighbors lol. They ran Dehart trucking back in the day. They had one son who was friends with my brother and although they always had more than us that buy loved our house mom's cooking and he was highly upset when my brother got a little sister aka me. He fussed with his mom for weeks and claimed his naive as his sister. Lol. I guess no matter how much money people have they want what others have. Thanks fornkistening to this old lady. God bless you and your family
