I'm going through dozens of different Fuji lens reviews these days to get a grip of the Fuji ecosystem and just want to say your review of these lenses was one of the best. The way you present information and provide samples is pretty much top notch.
This is the most concise and comprehensive review of these lenses that I have come across! Thank you for taking the time to make this video, really appreciate your thoroughness covering both photo and video aspects!
I would choose the 50 f/2. Great little thing. Sharp, small, WR and I always prefer lenses with better magnification. They give the option of more interesting shots.
@@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons Is there any chance that you could do a Z6ii AF comparison--using the latest firmware--against its competitors? (Sony, Canon, Fuji) I know that would be a lot of work, but if you did an AF comparison only that users of all four brands would watch the video. It could be an R6/Z6ii/A7iii/X-T4 shoot out with percentage hit rates under different lighting conditions. Thanks!
Wow, I've watched A LOT of comparison videos for A LOT of different stuff. This is without a doubt one of the best, if not THE best! Straight to the important points, no time wasted, and lots of effort went into this. Great job! THANK YOU!
Watched this before, but skipped through most of it and went to the conclusion. This time I watched the whole thing from front to back and was very impressed at the thoroughness of this review. Honestly, probably the best review I’ve seen comparing these lenses, especially all four. I own the 56mm and was curious how the new 50 mm F 1.0 compared. Each lens obviously has strengths and weaknesses, but after watching this I’m happy sticking with my 56 mm, and for the price of the 50 mm F 1.0 I also have the 90 mm F2, and the 56 and the 90 together we only 100 g more than just the 50 mm F 1.0. To put in another way, the 50 mm F 1.0 actually weighs more than the 16 to 55 mm F2.8 and a 35 mm F1.4 combined. Thanks again!
Thanks for the great comparison! The 56 1.2 is by far my favourite, but the Viltrox is the only one I can afford hahaha. The Viltrox has improved substantially with a few firmware updates, too.
What an excellent review and an amazing presentation!! I learned so much in this one video, and more importantly, how to go about deciding on any lens purchases from here on out. I look forward to watching your other videos. Keep up the great work and thanks for saving the rest of us lots of time and money to figure out what the best choice would be given our individual shooting styles and requirements. I would love to see similar tests again at lower lighting environments!! Subscribed!!
I have the feeling that the Viltrox prime lineup for Fuji cameras really is a big benefit for Fuji cameras. they have equivalents to current Fuji lenses (23 1.4, 33 1.4, 56 1.4 and 85 1.8), and even have lenses where Fuji hasn't stepped on the segment yet (13 1.4), all for a pretty affordable price and awesome value, especially for the 85 1.8 as it is really close to the fuji 90 f2 at less than half the price. The latest 1.4 lenses coming from Fuji (18 1.4, 23 1.4 and 33 1.4) really are works of art when it comes to opticas and all of those lenses are basically perfect, so it really depends if you're OK to spend more for more sharpness and less optical quirks. Overall though, the Viltrox lenses are an amazing value
Wow! I'm amazed with this video comparison. Pls carry on with your amazing job and bring us more of this amazing and conscious comparisons. Thumbs up!!!
Generally speaking men with beards can't be trusted but this is certainly the best lens review I've ever seen. Great context in terms of what you are reviewing and an utterly fantastic edit. Brilliant stuff - well done - subscribed!!
I agree with you but and I also have the 56 1.2. However that Viltrox really held its own on the real world shots. I did notice that the bokeh got a little nervous looking on the shots that had a busy background to begin with. Both the Viltrox and the Tiny 50 had that same issue. In particular it was the shots of the person with the trees in the background (around 13:09) that exhibited this.
This is the best and most helpful comparison of the Fuji 50-ish mm lens lineup I’ve seen. Probably seen over a dozen videos attempting to be as helpful as yours but failing
Great review and comparison 👍 your articles and reviews are the best. fire extinguisher in the kitchen, very wise 😁 I like the bag the lady carrying. Cheers
the 50mm f2 its a wonderful lens. with great resolution, good optic, beautiful contrast, and colors, and feels amazing in my hand, and perfect for video use. IMO the best native lens for B&W shoots!
I have both the Fuji 56 and the 50mmf2 and you are correct, the B&W images from the 50mm are stellar. And I'm glad I got the 56mm instead of the 50f1, that extra 3/4 of a stop or so isn't that significant in terms of bokeh and the lens is a lot more expensive and heavier than the 56.
The difference of subject isolation between both 50mm at f2 is due to the mechanical vignette ( cat's eye) of the "Tiny" at this aperture. The "big" being stopped down at f2 is free of this phenomenon. Mechanical vignette increases the depth of field where it is present.
I dont normally post comments on videos but this was one if the best lens comparison videos I have watched. The information is clean, organized, unbiased and to the point. Well done! Now the only problem is that sigma is releasing a 56 1.4 for Fuji so a new test is in order?
Just looking at the size 'n weight in comparison, the tiny 50f2WR is in my bag. I own one. love it! Video Interviews and portraits just let clients smile.
I bought the viltrox 56mm 1.4 second hand for £225. From my test shots it's absolutely tack sharp at 1.4 and certainly sharp enough for my needs especially at the price point I paid for the lens. Great review as always.
Excellent comparison Mathieu, and let me say you that I like your communication style. Good job guy. By the way, I've bought the Viltrox 56 mm F 1.4 and this review confirm that this lens is not bad, especially compared to its price tag. The other contender was the "Tiny Fifty" but at the end a "too good deal to pass up" has won against the indecision 😃. For the record, you have gained a new subscriber.
Wow this was really informative and a great in-depth review. Also thanks so much for mentioning this 19:06 I would have gone and bought Viltrox otherwise you saved me there.
As always, Matt, excellent work...thanks. A note: Zeiss tout 50mm f2.8 is another third party autofocus lens that has been around since 2014. Even though it is slower at f2.8, it is super sharp wide open and and the rendering is delicious, making a very nice portrait option with the added bonus of 1:1 macro capabilities (oops, I see you already made mention of the Zeiss lenses).
I have the same issue as you mention at ~20:40 with my x-t4, i created several posts different reddit forums to ask if anybody else had the same issue with no one confirming it. I can confirm that this happens for me too and lets hope that fuji fix this in the next x-t4 firmware update. (This happens with all of my lenses but the 56 is the only one which actually changes the focus distance)
It can do both to be honest, as long as you can get close enough for sports, and you have enough space for portraits (an indoor portrait shoot for example can be a bit limiting if the location is small and you want something larger than a headshot).
Great review! I had the 56 f1.2 but changed it for the 50 f2 for the smaller size. No regrets. Waiting for the Sigma 56 f1.4 on the x-mount in 2021 if rumors are correct.
I bought the Fuji-System because of its size and weight. Shallow depth of field and nice bokeh can be acieved with a much more affordable full-frame-system. But still the best comparison of the 50ies here on UA-cam!!!!!! Trés bien!!!!!! I´ll keep the 2.0 for fun and for serious portraits Nikon D750 with 85mm f 1.8 (costs less than Fuji f 1.0)
Correction: there are also three AF lenses from Zeiss (Touit 2.8/12, 1.8/32 and 2.8/50 Macro).

Phenomenal video Mathieu, amazing work! Subbed! :)
Wonderful! A serious comparison and well produced too, without the hype and horrible background music of so many UA-cam reviews. Many thanks.
Glad you liked it!
the most technical review on youtube!
This is the best Video what I ever saw. Thank you for making of.
A really clear video you've made there. Well done to you - I enjoyed watching and I learned a lot about each of the lenses.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I like the 90mm f2, 56 and 90mm is a good pair.
The best review I've seen for 50/56 mm lenses for Fuji. Thanks a lot!
Wow, thanks!
The best reviewer ever, I instantly subscribed your channel. Thank you!
This is a super comparison! You cleared my doubts about the viltrox vs the tiny 50, thank you!
The best review/comparison i've seen so far. thanks a lot
It’s always a joy to watch your reviews. Thank you
Excellent comparison... viltrox seems to be good option in this price range...
Excellent comparison!!!! Thanks for your effort
Thanks for the great comparison! The 56 1.2 is by far my favourite, but the Viltrox is the only one I can afford hahaha. The Viltrox has improved substantially with a few firmware updates, too.
The tiny 50/2 and the 56/1.2 still seem to offer the best value/performance ratio.
What a great comparison video!! Well done!
Best video on the topic, well done buddy!
Wow! Superb review/comparison! Thanks!
Tiny 50 looks great for Environmental Portraits. Great analysis and review BTW 👍🏽
Merci beaucoup pour cette excellente vidéo et le travail accompli !!
Excellent review of the four lenses, Mathieu!
Thank you.
Precise and very well made review. Thank you!

thanks a lot for the very interresting comparison in all these categories
Best review on those lenses so far. Great job.
Thanks!
Super analysis. Great job very informative and easy to understand.

Thank you. Maybe it's because I have a very small beard! :-D
Great comparison... Goes into excellent depth, but with real world examples too. Thanks for sharing
Excellent comparison. Thanks
Great work! Thanks
Excellent review! Thank you!
Excellent review matthieu. I have the 56 1.2. Personally, i don't see myself changing to any of the other 3.

Great and really professional review!
Amazing comparison! The most useful that I've found
Thank you!
best review of these lenses. thank you. I'll be happy with my Viltrox, which i ordered already before coming across this review. now looking forward
Great! Let me know how do you find the lens.
Your videos are simply the best. Keep going and thanks for your time.
I've been trying to decide on what portrait lens I wanted and this really helped me.
Great review and comparison 👍 your articles and reviews are the best. fire extinguisher in the kitchen, very wise 😁 I like the bag the lady carrying. Cheers
Thanks! Haha, where we live it is required by law to have a fire extinguisher in the house. Kitchen seems to be a good place for it.
Really great review!!
Thank you so much for that!
Best comparison for these. Very complete. Well done your effort shows
Thank you very much!
the 50mm f2 its a wonderful lens.
with great resolution, good optic, beautiful contrast, and colors,
and feels amazing in my hand, and perfect for video use.
IMO the best native lens for B&W shoots!

Been looking for a portrait length primer to add to my 23 f/2 on my x Pro 2. This video sold me on the 50 f/2. Thanks for the solid comparison!
Wow, this is like a standard comparison video review to which every other video review should be compared to. Amazing!!!
Thanks! 😃
Great comparison. Thank you, Mathieu.

Awesome review! Just what I had been looking for. Well done
Very rigourous, congatulations!
Very detail review thanks for your information 🙏🏻
Top drawer video this, subscribed! I was going to get the Viltrox but not now, I'll go with the Sigma i think.
I dont normally post comments on videos but this was one if the best lens comparison videos I have watched. The information is clean, organized, unbiased and to the point. Well done!
Now the only problem is that sigma is releasing a 56 1.4 for Fuji so a new test is in order?
Thanks! Yes, I'm happy Sigma is starting to make lenses for Fuji. I tested the 56mm E-mount version and it's a very good lens.
this is super useful review thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
Just looking at the size 'n weight in comparison, the tiny 50f2WR is in my bag. I own one. love it!

Any changes to your experience? Considering getting it, but worried about the AF on the X-T100
Great video! Very well done! Looking forward to more videos!

Thank you! Glad you like the Viltrox. I'm tempted to try the other ones they have too (23mm and 33mm).
Thank you sir, you brought lens comparison video to another level.
Thia is a review! Good job Mathieu, very practical and precise analysis. Now I can finally choose my portrait lens with confidence.
Glad it was helpful!
Very good and useful video! Thank you!
Wow this was really informative and a great in-depth review. Also thanks so much for mentioning this 19:06 I would have gone and bought Viltrox otherwise you saved me there.
Excellent review. Very detailed allowing you to chose the right lens for your application and budget.
Glad it was helpful!
Please review the Sigma for the X mount
Great review. For bokeh the 56 and big 50 are only choices.
very good video comparing these !!
Great video for me thank you so much for your effort.

Amazing review, thanks a lot
This was fantastic! Super helpful
Excellent video!!! make more like this one :)
You forgot Zeiss! The Touit lens from Zeiss for X-mount have also autofocus :)
You're right! It's a shame though that they haven't produced anything more since.
Man, I love your video!
Thanks!
Great content. Thanks.
excellent work. would it be possible to add the zoom lens into the comparison?
I don't have the 50 f1 and 56 1.2 with me anymore. Which zoom lens you were thinking?
Thank you for this great Review! Really helped me see the differences.
thanks for doing review
Awesome review!
Thanks!
Excellent comparison.

amazing work

f2 is a way to go for me. own 23,35,50 F2.. F2 series is awsome. cant go wrong..
Exactly 👍
Nice video.. 👍
IMHO adding xf90 f2 to the comparison would make the video more complete..
Great video. Would you consider the 90mm f2 as a portrait lens, or sports?
It can do both to be honest, as long as you can get close enough for sports, and you have enough space for portraits (an indoor portrait shoot for example can be a bit limiting if the location is small and you want something larger than a headshot).
Concise and to the point review.
Great review! I had the 56 f1.2 but changed it for the 50 f2 for the smaller size. No regrets. Waiting for the Sigma 56 f1.4 on the x-mount in 2021 if rumors are correct.
The Sigma 56mm is an excellent lens, I hope they will make a Fuji version soon!
Hi,nice compare,I now waiting for Tokina 56mm/1.4f on 2022 🤠
This is the best comparison
Ottimo video 😍
Grazie ;-)
I bought the Fuji-System because of its size and weight. Shallow depth of field and nice bokeh can be acieved with a much more affordable full-frame-system. But still the best comparison of the 50ies here on UA-cam!!!!!! Trés bien!!!!!!
I´ll keep the 2.0 for fun and for serious portraits Nikon D750 with 85mm f 1.8 (costs less than Fuji f 1.0)
Wao, so much work in this video! 😳🙏 This confirms my fav would be the 56 ☺️ good overall balance for me... Thanks for your work!
