This is such a fun story! With an incredibly unique plot and stuff happening all the time! At the beginning it was hard to remember this was written in the 80's... now about 5.5 hours in it is evident - but still a good story. I really liked the beginning and middle - but not so much the ending... (spoiler) The beginning and middle felt like it was a struggle for self preservation and good over evil... but the ending was more war mentality - to me, anyway. Like one faction versus a different faction... I don't know how I feel about this book as a whole... it was OK, filled with action, suspense, drama, etc., maybe too much for me... I don't know why I was so disappointed in the ending... sigh. It just felt so long and full of turmoil - over 10 hours of constant violence, struggle, anxiety... maybe I was hoping for an uplifting, positive, hopeful ending... (spoiler) not an ending where everyone dies... sigh.
