  • Took a drive out to Lake Powell on the Utah side. WOW! What a beautiful drive there, some of the best scenery I have seen in a while! And of course Lake Powell didn't disappoint also! I did not expect to see how low the water was. It was really shocking to see how far up that water line was!

Before Glen Canyon was flooded, it was considered more beautiful than the Grand Canyon. But back in the 50s nobody knew about it.

I remember going to the grand opening of the Glenn Canyon dam; my mom had a thing for Princess Margaret, I guess. There wasn't a bathtub ring back then-the reservoir was still brand new and full to the brim. It seems sad to see it all gone now-but this was the natural state before man put his hand to it.

It makes me sad to see the water that low .When the water was high we went up the Colo river 10 miles. I have been one end of
lake to other. The best days of my life we spent at Lake Powell. I miss that Hite the inlet is just mud now use to be 90 feet deep.
When it turned to mud I sold my Lake Powell Boat and bought the jeep it is fun but nothing like being on Lake Powell. I don't think

The entire state of California does not need water from Nevada, Arizona, or anywhere else if it would stop listening to fake science & fake environmental groups while deciding to make its water laws! Last time I was by Lake Powell was 2008 (driving from Salt Lake to Phoenix) and I though the water was low then. Yikes it's low now. Only other times I've been to Lake Powell were when my family lived in Moab. First time was when I was five and we went to Halls Crossing with some of my dad's relatives. Second time was when I was seven and my grandfather's company was doing some work on the Navajo Nation. I know that area is most likely dry now. It is a very beautiful area. Also gets very hot in the summer with all of the rocks being baked in the sun.

Nature, with a lot of help from mankind, is returning Lake Powell to its former glory, which is to say, a river. The same can be said for Lake Mead. The area will always remain beautiful. At night, you can see stars from horizon to horizon, as the center of the Milky Way Galaxy travels across the sky. We must remember to appreciate the beauty before us, as you are doing in this video. In the end, all we can say is that it was good for houseboats while it lasted. That was then and this is now for the living that witnessed this hugh change in the environment.

Interesting that the Colorado river feeds from Powell into Lake Havasu in CA/AZ which is FULL to the brim and thriving with their water sports economy.
It's sad to see up river states get drained from their lifeline simply to feed a lifestyle in California.
Camped on the Colorado at Parker dam which is totally the opposite of Powell.

Golf courses, hotels in Vegas and continuous building new homes. That's where a lot of the water is going.

Greg Braden has a great story. New Mexico was experiencing a great drought a few years back. A Native American friend said to him, let's go pray. They got to an area where the friend drew a circle in the desert earth, he took off his shoes and sat in the circle. In a few minutes he said, let's go get something to eat. Greg said wait, we didn't pray, what were you doing in the circle? The friend said I was envisioning the rain, I could smell the rain, I could feel the rain, I could feel the mud squish between my toes. Shortly, they heard thunder, rain clouds came in, it started raining, it rained and it rained and it rained. Greg said ok, that's enough, make it stop. The friend said my ancestors didn't tell me that part!! Let's all collectively feel, smell and squish our toes in the rain for this area and for Lake Mead.

They (government) knew this was coming but money was more important.
I've lived in Las Vegas and Henderson for over 25 years and saw this happening.
    It's really depressing.

What nice scenery even though the water level is so low. I bet you can now walk through some ghosts towns that where flooded, like in Nevada. Will the lake ever be filled up again, I doubt it.. Next will be the power cuts..

    Sarah,
Thank you for the video. Enjoy watching your travels, great job. Glad you are traveling while you can! I think the water shortage will be getting worse, sad but will not produce a change in the mind set of most tell the faucet at home runs dry. It’s only a money problem tell the money runs out.
