What frustrates me is that Dean in the beginning isn't dumb or ignorant of Rory's pop culture references but once Jess enters the picture Dean's IQ all of a sudden drops in half. I know he wasn't much of a reader and he could be viewed as clingy but I think it's because he was more serious about his feelings and relationship with Rory than Rory ever was. But people choose to glorify Jess due to his shared love of literature with Rory as if that equates a connection and dismiss his red flags. I just wish the writers wouldn't have screwed up Dean's character so much.
